It appears that Fremantle are looking at elevating a Rookie to name in the squad for Sunday.

According to the article it is between Van berlo and Silvagni. Both have shown quite a bit in the pre season.

It also mentions that Balla will play (Excellent) and that Morabito will be named in the squad of 25.

I like it!:thumbsu:

Article on AFL.com says the same, except it's Van Berlo and Clancee up for upgrading!!

I think we are in a great position have 5 rookies that most of us think are well and truly capable of stepping up to afl level after such a short period of time on the list. Personally, I'd be happy with whoever they choose to upgrade as they will all get their chance this year at some stage I'm sure.

What i'm far more interested in is the players that the match committee leave out for the upgraded rookies as opposed to which rookies actually get the nod. I think that will be a bigger indicator of where they are heading than which 1 or 2 or 5 rookies get a spot. And for those who are replaced through injury ala grover/dodd - do they regain their spot when fit?

Personally I would like to see Silvagni elevated ahead of VB.
I think our forward line and half forward line is in a good place right now and I don't think VB can add to that just yet.
Silvagni however, seems capable of being another avenue out of our half back line and a bit of dash on the wing.

Having said that we do have Duff, Broughton and Hayden giving plenty of options so maybe Silvagni is not ready to slot in yet either?

...you know what...I'm not so sure any more...

I'd be just as happy to see Roberton get a run as Silvagni, has impressed me no end this pre-season. Perhaps they have Van Berlo ear marked for a De Boer type tagging role? Spent a fair bit of time playing that sort of role in the Nab cup mixed in with some work in defence. I think the way the side lines up on Sunday will give us a better idea of the coaches thoughts for the season ahead - I always fall into the trap of reading too much into the pre-season line-ups...

Roberton is still a bit light though. But he has been very good

Agreed, he is on the lighter side. Doesn't seem to have effected him too much though. Has been described previously as seemingly untackleable. And reports from pre-season were that he can lay a tackle on Pav and make it stick. Suggests to me he doesn't play like he needs the extra weight.
