As the rookie elevation cut-off date is Tuesday the 17th of March I thought it prudent to raise this discussion as to whom should and will be nominated.

There are a number of players who look likely to be upgraded and I found this report which raises some interesting points.

Spencer
Broughtman
Jacobs
Pyke
Thompson

look very promising and I wonder will dreamteam adjust the prices if they are no longer rookies, I dont think they will but if they did I would be in a bit of a pickle.

Carlton Blues look to promote some of their rookie stars

By Jon Ralph
March 09, 2009 Carlton look set to reward rookie ruckman Sam Jacobs for his impressive pre-season form by elevating him to the senior list by Tuesday week's cut-off date.
Clubs without two veterans can select a "nominated" rookie, which makes them available to play senior football all year.
The Blues have no veterans and can nominate two rookies, with indigenous forward Jeff Garlett, midfielder Aaron Joseph and former Port Adelaide midfielder Greg Bentley also in contention.
In effect, it gives a club without veterans extra positions on its list.
Last year Michael Jamison played 18 games for the Blues after being promoted off the rookie list.

Jacobs, a bullocking 200cm redhead, has eclipsed ruck rival Shaun Hampson in the club's pre-season games and seems certain to be given a position, with Fremantle ruck recruit Robert Warnock a late starter.
Carlton football manager Steven Icke said the Blues had a range of options.
"Subject to salary cap room, we can nominate two rookies," Icke said.
"Sam has impressed everyone, including his own teammates. He has made a large impression on everybody. We just need to have a look at the structure of our list."

Port Adelaide is in a similar position with rookies after it put second-round draftee Jackson Trengove on its long-term injury list.
Dynamic indigenous goalsneak Wade Thompson and former Richmond midfielder Danny Meyer have impressed in pre-seasons matches and are candidates for elevation.

Port football manager Peter Rohde confirmed the club had extended the carrot of a senior game for the pair if they continued to impress.
This year all clubs can also elevate a rookie after Round 11 without putting a player on the long-term injured list.

Richmond's VFL recruit Robin Nahas may have to wait for a long-term injury to play senior football despite showing his class pre-season.
Graham Polak made his comeback on Friday, disproving reports he would go on the long-term injury list to make room for Nahas.
Collingwood has two veterans on its list, but is excited by Queensland soccer convert Lachlan Keeffe.

The 204cm rookie has played only a handful of Aussie rules games, but is wowing the coaching staff with his potential.
Coach Mick Malthouse said the 18-year-old beanpole had nearly pushed into Friday's NAB Cup semi-final side.

"I know he's not ready for senior footy, but he's a fantastic story," he said.

"He kicked a left-foot goal on the weekend and he's a right-footer. You would have sworn he was a left-footer. It's a job always on the go, but he's just stepping up beautifully.
"I am not saying he's challenging for next week, but he could just as easily be in the side for next week."

Carlton now have 3 spots to fill on the senior list given Warnock was just placed on the LTI list and the fact we have no veterans. Personally, i see Jacobs as a certain elevation, with Garlett and Joseph next in line. Although i wouldn't be surprised if we happen to wait until the mid season to elevate Garlett, as his light frame might make it a struggle for him to play over half a year of football.

Fremantle seeks list elevation for two rookies

Figured some people might be interested in this. Fremantle are elevating both Broughton and deBoer to the main list, as a result of having no veteran listed players.

deBoer will be a very good downgrade option when he is over his injury. While Broughton will probably line up Round 1. Is at rookie price so he is cheap, but Fremantle will have a lot of players coming back from injury and suspension over the first month. So his spot might not be secure, but is one of only a few back rookies who will actually play.

Canadian pushes for call-up

Richard Hinds | March 16, 2009

THE impressive form of Canadian rookie Mike Pyke is way ahead of schedule and gives Sydney an unusual ruck quandary going into round one.
Pyke, who turns 25 on March 24, has performed well as a tap ruckman in the Swans' final two practice matches, raising a prospect unthinkable even a month ago, that a man who earned a spot on the club's list as an international rookie on the strength of a videotape of his rugby union exploits might become an instant AFL player.
With the retirement of Peter Everitt, none of the possible partners for ruckman Darren Jolly, including youngsters Jake Orreal and Daniel Currie, have made a strong claim for a permanent spot in the trial games.
"You look at it and you might not pick him just because he's from Canada and he's only been (training and playing) for four months," Sydney coach Paul Roos said.
"But if you just look at it in pure football terms, on merit, then he has very strong claims."

maybe Dick Hinds saw our reaction to his DT slagging article and is trying to get back on our good side by giving us a couple of tips :)

is anyone actually gonna pick up pyke? seems only good for hitouts...

I meant Cockie a chance to be elevated off rookie list

Jacobs, Spencer or Pyke will be my 4th ruck and i epxect value in all, they could actually make you money (80-100k). Jacobs and Spencer have both shown that they can score 30-50 avgs.

Would think with LTI (Warnock) that Jacobs would be a definite elevation and also to get games for that matter. He smashes Hampson in the ruck and i think Kruezer and Cloke would play more Forward and rotate off the bench. Jacobs would be close to their best tap ruckmen.

Thats interesting i thought Hampson would be in front of him. Well i guess then its out of Jacobs and Spencer

I can't see Pyke getting many games, unless Currie and White break a leg.

Word on the boards is both Jacobs and Joseph have been elevated, although i'd still wait for the official word. :thumbsu:

Do Tarquin or WTS (above) as carlton supporters see Jacobs as in your best 22 whilst Warnock is out??

Ive hear that they rate well above Hampson especially for ruck duties. I think that blues will take in 3 talls and they will be Jacobs, Kruezer and Cloke.

The way I see it, Jacobs #1 ruckman he has a mature body and had plenty of time in the bullants to learn the craft.

Kreuz second ruck rotating into the forward line

Cloke permanent forward.

Jacobs will be in the 22 as long as Warnock is out, and if he really impresses who knows. Hampson is still learning the game, he has massive potential but is a little while off it yet.

Carlton can have 3 rookies elevated pretty sure though so maybe he is still a chance. But he may be to slender anyway and with Betts, Yarran, Robinson, Houlihan, N.Stevens, Carazzo as all possible small forward options they dont need many more.

As well as Garlett did in the nab cup, I still think he's way too skinny to be getting a game. There's plenty of time for him to develop and imo we have don't have room for him as you said above

And yeah, we can nominate a third rookie at any time because of Warnock

No he isn't. Roos has openly stated Currie is ahead of even White (unless White plays good at the start of the season). Currie has just been injured

1) Currie is injured so yes he cant play early anyway
2) Source for Roos saying that Currie is ahead of White and Pyke because i have seen him state that Pyke and White will fight it out for 2nd ruck spot.

BLue_Bloys summed it up quite nicely. Jacobs is certainly in our best 22, and i'd even go as far as to say he may even take on the mantle of #1 ruckman whilst Warnock is out.

The way i see it is he'll be interchanging with Kruezer and Cloke, when they are rotated from stints in the forward line.

Whilst Hampson has improved further and has one of the best leaps at the club alongside Waite, i can't see him having the experience yet of shouldering the load as our first ruckman. Although i wouldn't be surprised if Ratts selects him now and again to play second fiddle to Sauce Jacobs, in turn allowing both Cloke and Kruez to spend more time up forward. The question is whether Ratten is confident in playing 4 tall ruckman/potential ruckman at once. Personally, i don't see Hampson being in our best 22 just yet, but he will get quite a few chances this year. :thumbsu:

Sorry, i actually meant when Currie is not injured he is the preferred option.

It brings to light an interesting conundrum for Roos, as Daniel Currie – the preferred option to rotate with Jolly in the ruck – still suffering from a sore groin.

I guess Roo's didn't actually say this though
