On the news the other day after Carey to Adelaide report :D... they had an interview with Triggy, and he said something along the lines of..

"According to many AFL experts and coaches, Ben Rutten and Martin Mattner wouldve gone top 20 in this years draft".

They also said young Thomas wouldve been drafted aswell.

So we could possibly have 3 rookies elevated?

Who would we delist, considering we have to draft another 2-3 players???

Did crows recruitment staff take into account we had found 2 Gems last year, and our draft picks this yr were expendible???

I'm sure that the Crows did take into account the rookies when trading their draft picks. The Crows choices for the rookie list last year were brilliant. Mattner and Rutten are the 2 certainties to go on the list and I think Bock is the other maybe. Heard Triggy talking about this on 5AA this morning.

He said that assuming we promote 2, and it will be at least 2, then we will have to delist 6 players ( 7 if we promote 3) and said there will be some unlucky players who might even get redrafted depending on how the draft goes. He wouldn't comment on who might be delisted.

I am sure that the delistings will come from

Beinke (certainty as retired)

Angwin (certainty)

Perrie (likely)

Shirley (likely)

Nelson (likely)

Schell

Shir

Hewitt

Skipworth

I'm not too sure how the draft rules work is there a min number of picks a club can take & are the rookies from last year included?
if not then how many players will have to be delisted if we are to elevate Mattner, Rutten & maybe Bock or Thomas?
next i guess is who do we delist to make room?

ps, please disregard the above ?s as macca23 has already answered them,:)

I agree that Mattner & Rutten are musts for elevation. Reckon Bock should stay on the rookie list for another year & don't know enough about Thomas to comment. So that is at least 6 delistings - Beinke, Angwin, Marsh, Shirley, Nelson + 1 (assuming they won't be traded). Can't delist Schell as he is on a 2 year contract.

Right - thanks for that.

That would almost guarantee Perrie being the 6th one then because he has been there for 4 or 5 years now and can't crack a regular spot.

If it wasn't for Schell's contract, he would be my 6th one because he is as soft as butter. The boys in charge don't get it wrong very often but in my opinion they did this time. Do you agree or am I being too harsh on Schell?

On second thoughts, much as think Marsh is next to useless, I think he will survive just because he is the backup ruckman and there are no others at this stage.

That puts Mathew Shir at risk then, although I think he can play.

Schell showed glimpses at times but really looked pathetic in the games prior to being dropped. I agree with you on this one.

Shir is good. Hewitt must go.

Hewitt has been a major disappointment in general, but can play forward and back and he has more skills than Perrie, and I think that only one of these 2 will go, with the survivor being a backup CHB or forward in case of injury.

I agree that Shir can play, but now that we have Jason Torney, it makes it even harder for Shir to crack the side. If Shir is delisted I think he could well be redrafted with our 3rd pick.

Perrie has shown more than Hewitt. Keep him.

Perrie is the most frustrating footballer to watch

Huge, athletic.. but he cant hold onto them.. and his kicking style is awful.

I think Hewitt would be ahead of him.. just

I heard Steven Trigg say on 5AA yesterday (on the Sunday Roast) that Ben Marsh has another 12 months on his contract, and would most likely stay at the Crows. I was a bit surprised at that.

Too hard to speculate on who will go and who will stay. Some players are still contracted, so that will influence the decisions.

SCHELL

Doesnt anyone remember that we got Schell for pick aroung 30+ so he wasnt totally worthless and I cant seem to see why so many people are bagging so many players when the team had very few injuries and was a rather strong outfit so this was the cause for a lot of players not getting a chance, we shouldnt go too heavy with the chopping block.
If we have to delist six then I reckon.
1-Beinke (Retired)
2-Angwin (What a frigin WASTE)
3-Skipwort (Too small, just isnt coping)
4-Shir
5-Shirley
6-Nelson

*Marsh we need as we dont have a backup, hes not that useless.
*Perie couldnt break in but he has promise still (Backup Backman)
*Hewitt, cant see why he wasnt getting a game at CHB last year as he was doing well there before
*Schell, still young and he could still make the grade, a few things to learn but even though I was one who didnt want Carey Now he has someone to teach him well

A lot of people will disagree with this but I wouldnt get rid of too many.

Also We got rorted in both deals, which is unusual.

Erm, we gave up Vardy for Schell, we lost BIG TIME there.

Your list is good except for Shir - he looked handy this year.

With the the elevation of 3 rookie players we need to delist 7 players (must have a minimum of 3 picks for the draft)! Personally I'm suprised about Bock, as I would have kept him on the rookie list (& taken the risk of another team taking him).

Both Marsh & Schell have contracts for 2003, so they are safe. Reidy was mentioning tonight that a player who has been unlucky with injuries may be delisted. Is this Fitzy? I hope not, as I would give him another year.

I would delist: Beinke, Angwin, Skipworth (perhaps put him on the rookie list), Shirley, Nelson, Perrie/Hewitt (1 of, but not sure which) & probably Shir (who I would look at redrafting).

Reidy mentioned that they make there decisions on delisting by Wednesday. Reckon one of the players could be a bit of a shock.

We have to have at least 3 draft picks in the National Draft. With our trading we have only been left with 3 draft picks so:

1. as we gained Carey, Torney and Burns
2. and elevated Mattner, Rutten and Bock
3. and have lost Johnson, Finnin and Beinke

doesn't that mean we have to delist 6 players?

IMO Angwin
Skipworth
Schell-I'd pay out his contract
Shir
Perrie-although I like him
Shirley

Cheers
AJ
