Any ideas on who could or will be added to the rookie list this year. With graham n embley on it currently, id imagine a smaller player would be likely. Opinion n ideas?

Ben Wright (Peel Thunder)
Andrew Ruck (Claremont)
Aaron Edwards (Swan Districts)

Edwards to be re-drafted u reckon?

More money in footy than in cricket, just ask Brett Jones.

With the Eagles able to nominate 2 players from the rookie list who can be used any time during the season, they would be mad not to have another more mature rookie such as Edwards on board.

im well aware of the cricket /money side of things. If u are really good at cricket there is more money than football tho, but its too hard to get there. Doesnt edwards only have 1 yr left available on the rookies list(cant u only spend 3 yrs on it or something)

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Edwards get another year on the RL. He was coming quite good toward the end of the season, and I can see the Eagles giving him another chance. Sounds like his attitude improved a lot over 04 as well.

Obviously hadn't done enough to warrant promotion to the main list (especially as a small), but putting him back on the rookie list gives us a chance to see how he goes for another year.

To be honest, if he does make it back on the rookie list, I'd reckon he's a better chance to debut in 2005 than Rosa or LeCras.

yeah i really hope he gets rookie listed
he showed so much improvement last year

Frank Agostino. Was all but a Eagles rookie list player 2 years... at the last minute they took Mark Nicoski instead..... then Agostino did his knee first game of the season and was out for a year... came back this year and even though it was his 1st year back from a knee he did quite well in a few games. Best comparison I can give is that he is a Andrew Embley type.... He is 195cm... and very very mobile...and good above his head. He is so mobile he actually plays on the wing as a 195cm.

I know for a fact he has had a few AFL clubs sniffing around asking him to train with them for the rookie draft and I also know his ex EP coach Tony Micale has big wraps on him..... so it wouldnt surprise to see him go. I just hope he ends up at the Eagles. With the Eagles young list they would be better off going for a 21 year old who has shown he has a bit.

here is a shortlist of players i would like to see us rookie list
Heath Grundy
Scott McMahon
Ruory Kirkby
Marcus Drum (might be too young for the rookie draft)
Ben Sharp
Will Hamill
Jesse D.Smith
Beau Wilkes
Ryan Jackson
Tom Redden

Problem is that at 21 he doesn't have the bulk to be a KPP and wouldn't have the endurance and speed to play on a wing all day at AFL level. If he adds the bulk then he loses the mobility.

Not many kids have bulk by 21. McDougall is 21 and still could put on 10 kilos and it doesnt necessarily have to slow you down. Olympic 100m sprinters put on massive amounts of muscle and it doesn't slow them down.. it creates more power.

Anyone have Alistair Lynch's phone number?

Ryan Jackson to young for the rookie list.

Expect a big season from him next year , he was totally shattered that he missed out. So many clubs had spoken to him he thought he was a genuine chance.

He is a top kid and I am sure that he will bounce back.

ryan bain from the oakleigh chargers is a huge chance to be rookie listed to the eagles. everyone had him tipped going first or second round in the draft and suprisingly didnt get picked up. west coast have done heavy talking with him since and looks like he may be moving to the west. would probably be an even bigger chance now that the 2004 oakleigh chargers coach neil ross is down at the eagles, bain will have a bigger chance of moving. earlier in the year ross said bain was oakleigh's most draftable player for 2004.

I was hoping this wouldn't happen. It's not enough that we drafted a scrawny outside midfielder with our first pick, our new development coach is talking us into getting an unaccountable one as well. If we get anyone from Oakleigh it should be Ben Sharp, a McKenna like HBF.

how many games have u seen bain and sharp play? if you watched te carnival you will see that sharp is the unaccountable one. bain has more assets than sharp. sharp can't kick a footbal, but can run all day. bain is a good finisher than backs himself, finds space, and likes to have a bounce. people called the one and only chris judd an outsided midielder when he came to play for the eagles, but look at him now. afterall, every team needs outside midfielders.

Sure every team needs outside midfielders, but they are a dime a dozen. We drafted 2 already this year with Rosa & Morton, do we really need another?

I only suggested Sharp as a more sensible selection from Oakleigh. He plays a quarterback type role like McKenna did and to a certain extent Wirrapunda - sure he picks up easy possessions, but that comes with the territory.

I'd much rather a key position defensive prospect, but if Ross is big noting Oakleigh players we are screwed because they had bugger all.

I would be very happy to get Bain on the rookie list. I saw a doco on him and he looked quite talented to me. Not only that but he is originally from Perth and is an Eagles supporter so homesickness wouldn't be a factor.

I think Frank Agostino would be a good player to have on the rookie list. He's mobile, pretty versatile, a good mark, and accurate in front of goals.

Do you honestly think a 100m sprinter could run for 4 quarters of a game of footy?

Hang on for a sec there Streak, pick an arument and stick with it! :)

In your earlier point you said that putting on muscle will slow them down, to which TP replied that this is a a fallacy as 100m sprinters are very mucular and infact it helps them with acceleratioon. I personally aggree with this view of the world.

Then you turned this argument back to an endurance issue, and the answer is that sprinters would be unlikely to run out 4 quarters in the midfield, having said that they could probably handle on of the other positions, such as FB/FF where acceleration is needed rather then just pure endurance.

I think what TP was trying to say is that just adding muscle does not slow you down, it can with certain individuals reduce their flexibility though, and he would be 100% right. The flexibility issue can be managed too through use of exercises such as pilaties and yoga to strengthen your core and improve your latteral movement. The most important thing to remember about training programs is that they need to be tailored for the individual and the positon that they are likely to play and then a balanced approach needs to be established to allow a player to increase both their strength, staminer and their muscle.

if sharp, gilham or bain is there at the eagles pick, they will take one of the three ive been told. most likely gilham as the eagles have too many other players the same as sharp and bain. eventhough gilham isnt that tall, he can play tall allowing him to play on players who are hard to match up on. willbe a good asset to the eagles imo.

Actually in my original post I said

which brings us back to the point. Adding muscle might aleviate the problem of him not being bulky enough for a KPP, but it wouldn't help him play on a wing at AFL level, which is where TP initially stated he would fit

It is a known fact that adding muscle to the degree that 100m Sprinters do in fact decreases mobility rather than increasing it. So I in fact turned it back to my original point which was that by adding the bulk he would in fact lose his mobility which was the major positive TP had for taking Agostino as a rookie in the first place.
