I feel pretty sad for the guys that the Lions delisted. They were really cool. I thought that Steve Kenna, Ben Doherty, Jason Anthonisz & Jeff Cooper were really hard done by. I thought that the first three have very promising futures. Jeff is also very good but it was his second year on the rookie list & Had to go. When the club elevated Shannon Rusca & Nathan Clarke earlier in the season I thought that Ben & Steve Had a really good chance to be elevated at the end of the season & That's why it shocked our Family & Friends so much!

the reason the club got rid of all the rookies is because afl rules says you have to
rookie list players are only on one year contract, during in which they can be promoted
if they arent promoted, (and most clubs dont have the room to) they must be delisted and re-enter the rookie draft or national draft

there is an exception for rookie list players from interstate, they are allowed two year contracts, this may be the reason why Jeff Cooper was on the rookie list for two years

so brisbane may not have wanted to get rid of these players but they had to

I was under the impression that if a rookie listed player is not promoted at the end of the season, the club is allowed to retain them on the rookie list for another year.

Everyone I have spoken too believes the same thing, as well as saints fans on our fan forum.

Steve Kenna should be our number one pick.
He is a young Craig Lambert, but he is quicker.Also he lives within spitting distance of the Gabba.
Great footy player, one of those naturals.

I totally think that Lil Stevie is really cool! He is a natural huh!
I think he is great & will have a great future ahead of him where ever he ends up!
I just hope that the Lions get what they gave to him when he becomes a champion!
He is already a champion in our eyes!
Ben is much the same!
Like look at the frame on that guy!
I think he is also a natural!

rookie list players only get two years if the come from another state
example of this is dean rioli at essendon, he was from perth and was promoted during his second year
if a player is from the state in which the club is then they only have one year rookie list contracts

I agree on Steve Kenna,he should not have been delisted, I like a player that backs himself to take on the opposition & he also has a bit of mongrel about him,hey & as a bonus he can hit a player on the chest with a footy (a lot more than a few senior players can do)

St Kilda, like all teams, have lodged their team lists with the AFL before the national draft and have retained rookies Steven Milne and Mark Wittison for another year.

Rookies do not have to be delisted after one year unless they are from interstate.

We have two promising players on our list, just like the lions it seems, and we have kept them on our rookie list for another year
