Razorbacks Leadership Group Announced

Coach Peterss has today announced the ladership group for the 2008 season one round into the new season.

Peterss had this to say

"I was always going to announce the leadership group after the first round to see who is worthy of a spot in the group. The group i have announced are a quality bunch of players and will be playing for the Razorbacks for a long time looking to the future."

The leadership group peterss named was:

Captain: Dean Cox
Vice Captains: Matthew Pavlich and Brad Sewell
Player Mentor: Robert Harvey

"Dean was a great choice as captain of this club. Hes the premier ruckman in the competition and speaks well with the Media and is very respected amongst the player group. Pavlich is one of the premier forwards in the competition and like Dean has already had leadership at his previous clubs and is respected amongst the group. In Brad Sewell we have a terrific young lad who gives his all week in week out for this club so this position is more of a reward for the work he puts in week in week out on and off the field. Robert Harvey is a champion of the game and the player mentor role is perfect for him. Hes got the role to teach the youngsters anything then want to learn and is there to listen to the playing groups problems."

Along with the main leadership group Peterss also announced a group of youngsters who have been earmarked as future captains of the club and these players are:

Nathan Van Berlo
Alwyn Davey
Brett Jones
Josh Durmmond
Stephen Gilham

"We have a quality group of youngsters at the Razorbacks and the names above have been earmarked as future leaders of this great club and it will just give them a little bit more of responsibility on and off the field knowing that they are rated highly by the coaching staff for future roles"

Razzorbacks Round 1 Review

The Rottnest Razorbacks opened their 2008 premiership campaign with an impressive 1361 to 1188 victory away from home against the Carlton Lions. The Razorbacks were lead well by newly appointed captain Dean Cox and vice captain Matthew Pavlich and youngster Nathan Lovett-Murray also made the selectors smile with his 4 goals from defence. The Razorbacks lost Fraser Gherig just before the game with a warm-up mishap but this didnt dampen the Razorbacks spirits as they went on to record a comfortable victory.

Peterss had this to say "We played well. The loss of Gherig was a blow but to the boys credit they didnt let it get to them and performaed admirably. Its always good to open a season with a win and its even more satisfiying considering it was away from home"
