If there is any consistency, then I reckon Stevie J could be in a spot of bother

Back in Round 15, Heath Hocking was suspended for 2 matches for his cheap shot bump on Lenny Hayes

(footage here in this article)

Lenny Hayes was closer to the action than Hannebery was

The MRP take a dim view to players taking out an unsuspecting opponent with blindside cheap shots when they're not in the vicinity of the action. It was a stupid thing for Stevie J to do on the eve of the finals. Madness. A total brain fart.

It will be very interesting to see how they view the incident.

Roughead on Dawes very similar. Will miss the pre-lim if he goes. Does he have carry over points?

The only thing that looked bad about StevieJ was the MRP's findings.........oh, sorry.......that wasnt bad.....that was down right embarrassing for football.

The SteveJ decision was ridiculous... I thought the bump was ok, but the wrenching the arm of an injured player seemed to be worse than the Selwood push.

MRP are just silly.

hope the MRP let him off and Geelong get a crack at a near-full strength Hawthorn as we wanna beat them without any excuses!

Stevie J incident was a pathetic blight on the game and if they have any moral sense whatsoever...Roughead will have nothing to answer for.
If he goes for that, well....the game is in terrible trouble, if it isn't already slipping because of Fraser and his band of muppets!

Agree with that. However, whetever the rules and interpretations currently are, they need to be applied consistently. The Roughie incident should be looked at.

It will definitely get looked at, but whether is gets assessed the same is another point.
Notwithstanding the disgraceful decision on the StevieJ incident, they do tend to put the book away in finals......
and as has been stated above, if there is consistency with the StevieJ assessment then he gets a week reduced to a reprimand with an early plea. No damage done.

The incident will certainly be looked at and if they are consistent with the StevieJ incident they should find him guilty - but Roughie's good record will save him.

Yeah, I noticed Tom Harley was quick to draw attention to that. It's the second time in the past few weeks that Tom Harley has tried to get Roughead suspended before a Hawthorn vs Geelong match. Typical Geelong handbag culture to try to get their opponents suspended.

I didn't have much respect for Tom Harley anyway and even less so now.. He strikes me as a bit of a lightweight ponce who somehow fluked his way into the Geelong captaincy just as they came good and won a flag. One of the shittest premiership captains of all time, on a par with Nick Maxwell. He is lucky to have a job with Channel 7, but if he maintains this course of acting as Geelong's sniper from the commentary booth, he might want to watch his back.

After looking again at the incident, I don't think it was the same as Steve Johnson's bump at all. Roughy ran past Dawes and gave him a glancing bump in the side, whereas Johnson caught Hannebery flush in the solar plexus. Johnson was also given a 1 match suspension due his prior record of sniping opponents. Roughy has a clean record, so he'd be looking at a reprimand at the most.

Keep trying, you Geelong flogs... :D

If anything, Roughead's action was more similar to the bump Johnson gave Chris Newman in Round 5, which was thrown out at the tribunal due to it being of insufficent force to constitute a reportable offence.

If the Geelong FC had a pair, they would've challenged the recent decision against Johnson and got that one thrown at tribunal as well, but they preferred to whinge about it in the media like girly sooks.

I fully expect Neil Balme to come out this week and call for Dawes to be cited due to the fact he didnt see it coming.
In all seriousness, that is a free kick and nothing more.

I see the difference being that Stevie J got Hannebery right in the chest which would have knocked the wind out of him where as Roughead collected Dawes in the shoulder and Dawes went down like a sack of potatoes.

Reprimand at worst, should get off.

I don't like Harley much either but this argument sort of falls down because Harley has numerous times this year highlighted Geelong incidents, including Johnson last week.

I doubt anyone at Geelong will be worrying about Hawthorn, given we have two games to get there.

Roughead will get off, reprimand at worse.

I hope Roughy gets off and he should, as should have SJ but the MRP is so random now that anything can happen. 0-2 weeks place your bets.

MRP are just silly.

The incident with the arm was not taken into consideration in the MRP's findings. It was only the bump that was viewed as an issue.

Roughead's is a touch worse than SJ's because it was intentional not just reckless. He may get 1 week, even with his good record. Then again, he may not even be looked at - who can say with MRP, it has been very inconsistent this year.

One soldier out - Roughy, replaced by another soldier - Big Max.
Hope it doesn't come to this, but that's Hawthorn's philosophy.

Yes the MRP seemed to think the arm incident was ok - which makes a mockery of their findings in the Selwood incident.

Roughead won't be assessed as intentional, even Wellingham wasn't assessed as intentional
