I know that there are a lot of these threads but we need something to be excited about. The teams we list will be unlikely to come to fruition since there are always injuries that pop up and sometimes unexpected selections (Bartram, Weetra and Jetta come to mind).

This would be my dream 22

FB: Cheney Frawley Garland
HB: Grimes Rivers Bruce
C: Green Scully Davey
HF: Bate Jurrah Sylvia
FF: Maric Watts Wonna
R: Jamar McLean Moloney
Int: Jones Buckley Morton Martin

The only "oldies" there are Bruce and Green but they'll still provide decent service. Buckley may seem to be an odd selection but we still need pace through that midfield.

The forward line would be the weakest link, especially the FF line. I was tossing up between whether to put Jurrah or Watts at FF but I realised that we don't want to really play either in that position. The experiment with Bate at FF didn't seem to last long unforunately but may be retried.

I'm not 100% sold on Wonna but I'd still like him in there. I get more excited about Maric but he still has to perform as it'll be his 3rd year on the list.

As our midfield develops with Blease, Strauss and other possible draftees (and even guys like Healey and McKenzie if they amount to a decent player) coming in, we may see one of Jones, Moloney and McLean slip out.

FIRST EDIT:

I forgot Petterd so I'd probably have him in for either Maric or Wonna.

Haha MM i just started to write a similar thread...

mine was like

Well are nearing the end of our season , and with only a handful of games left we need to decide who are best team is going forward, who is 'depth' and who gets a end of season handshake and shove out the door.

Here is my thoughts on our best 22 (+3 emergencies), if all are fit and firing.
(i.e If we had only 1 game to prove ourselves who the team would be)

B: Garland Warnock Grimes
HB: Frawley Rivers Bruce
C: Morton Moloney Mclean
HF: Green Miller Davey
F:Jurrah Bate Wonnaemirri
Foll:Jamar Jones Sylvia
Int: Meesen Martin Mc Donald Petterd
Emergencies: Bennell Johnson Buckley

However we need to see who is up to it as a few positions have a number of question marks. I like the look of your team , though i would prefer Meesen in the ruck long term as he can actually kick.

Missing something?

Namely the 2008 National Draft number one pick that goes by the name Jack Watts?

Yes that was a deliberate miss. Due mostly to that i dont think he is quite up to it, if i was picking a best 22 for the season he would be CHF no doubt, but otherwise i just think he needs a few more games till he can be considered a walk up start.

I think he's taking into account the fact that Watts is young and not in our best 22 yet. If we were just listing a "best 22 for the future" then Watts, Blease and Strauss would easily be in and McDonald and Miller wouldn't be.

I don't like playing Jamar, Meeson and Martin.

He'd be a walk up start Round 1 2010, not only on talent but he'd be able to compete a lot better with some of the bigger defenders after a full preseason.

Not expecting him to dominate but certainly have an impact inside the forward 50.

So players who need to prove themselves for the rest of the season are :

Dunn
Bartram
Cheney (yes young but needs to show more, perhaps more responsibilty is needed?)
McNamara
Bell (though impossible. 50-50 chance of being kept)
Johnson
Newton
Miller
Valenti (R)
Spencer (R)

And those who are most likely gone:
McDonald
Whelan
Wheatley
Robbertson
Zomer (R)

You would think these 4 and another 3 would be moved on so who they are is anyones guess, let the list management begin!!!

Spot the spelling mistake....

My dream 22 without the Priority Pick:

FB: Bennell Frawley Garland
HB: Grimes Rivers Bruce
C: Green McLean Davey
HF: Bate Jurrah Sylvia
FF: Maric Watts Wonna
R: Jamar Scully Moloney
Int: Buckley Petterd Morton Martin

There's still Jones, Blease, Strauss, Cheney, Bail, McKenzie, Newton, Jetta, Dunn, Bartram, Meesen, Warnock, McNamara, Hughes, Valenti that could come into the team.

My dream 22 with the Priority Pick:

FB: Bennell Frawley Garland
HB: Grimes Rivers Bruce
C: Green McLean Davey
HF: Bate Jurrah Sylvia
FF: Maric Watts Wonna
R: Jamar Scully Trengrove
Int: Moloney Petterd Morton Martin

There's still Buckley, Jones, Blease, Strauss, Cheney, Bail, McKenzie, Newton, Jetta, Bartram, Dunn, Meesen, Warnock, McNamara, Hughes, Valenti that could come into the team.

FB: Garland Warnock McNamara
HB: Grimes Frawley Bruce
C: Morton McLean Blease
HF: Sylvia Watts Bate
FF: Jurrah Newton Wonaeamirri
Foll: Meesen Davey Moloney
Int: Jamar Buckley Petterd Green
Emer: Jones, Bennell, Rivers

So I'm going for some out there choices. Mainly McNamara and Blease to star in the NAB cup and earn their debuts for round 1. Then Garland, Wona, Bucks and Meesen having big preseasons back from injury and getting a round 1 gig. Watts and Newton to add 5kg of muscle each and become a powerful combination, with plenty of forward pressure from Wona and a fitter Jurrah.

Rd 1 Team 2010
FB: Garland Warnock Rivers
HB: Grimes Frawley Bruce
C: Morton McLean Moloney
HF: Green Miller Watts
FF: Jurrah Newton Bate
Foll: Jamar Sylvia Davey
Int: Meesen Bennell/Batram Aussie McDonald/Jones (Depending on if skip plays on next year)

For all I would keep Miller in at CHF for that big body along with Newton, can't throw Watts & Jurrah to the wolves in their second year!! :D Scarlett, Glass, Bock etc would have a field day!! at least by having Newton as the focal point and Miller at the CHF, we can take advantage of a weaker defender playing on Green/Jurrah/Watts/Bate and isolate them. Jurrah is quick for a player of his height and can crumb as well as can Green & Bate.

Hopefully Rivers plays on the 3rd tall which gives him a chance read the play. and Davey & Sylvia get a bit more fitter. Morton to get bigger along with Watts & Jurrah

I too like Meesen as a Ruckman because of his skills, can also pinch hit up forward as well "i heard"

hopefully a good run with injuries next year and smart drafting will give us greater depth next season and more success as we continue to rebuild

Well here's my lineup, although I've got a feeling at least one of my selections will likely never happen:

FB: Garland Warnock Rivers
HB: Grimes Frawley Bruce
C: Bennell McLean Morton
HF: Green Sylvia Bate
FF: Dunn Jurrah Wonaeamirri
Foll: Jamar Davey Moloney
Int: Meesen Maric Martin Jetta/Cheney/McKenzie

I think Dunn would be a good size to provide some marking power alongside Jurrah, but yeah, I doubt it'll ever come about.

This lineup would give us a good spread of quality ball-users with pace across the park as well, I reckon, and, I'd hope, fix our weakness up forward.

Meesen and Jamar are our best ruck combination IMO.

I wouldn't change this if we got the PPs, because regardless, I wouldn't be throwing them into the lineup straight away.

I've left Watts out as well - I would assume he'd come into this lineup a bit later in the season.

Other players pushing for selection: Petterd, Watts, Buckley, Newton, Jones, Blease, Strauss, Cheney, Bail, Miller (if retained- and both Miller & Newton are questionable because of their obvious weakness on set shots), Jetta, Bartram, McNamara, Hughes, Valenti, Bartram, Spencer, Johnson, Healey

Gone (probably)- Robertson, Whelan, Wheatley, McDonald, Zomer, Bell

This would be my round one team,

FB: Garland Warnock Rivers
HB: Grimes Frawley Bennell
C: Green McLean Morton
HF: Petterd Watts Bate
FF: Sylvia Jurrah Wonaeamirri
Foll: Meesen Davey Moloney

Int: Martin, Bruce, Blease, Miller

I know it is a young small HF line though would be interesting to see how there mobility would test the backs.

Sylvia to share time through middle as well as forward

Hopefully Moose Meesen and Marting can work in tandem, for a highly mobile ruck brigade. Impressed with Martin against Jolly, for a young kid he fought well. Over summer he needs to find a great ruck coach and settle in with a highlight package of Dean Cox. I think Martins improvement has probable signalled the end of Spencer.

In a perfect world, my team would be

Bennell, Warnock, Frawley
Bruce, Garland, Strauss
Davey, Mclean, Blease
Morton, Watts, Bate
Wonna, Jurrah, Green
Jamar, Moloney, Grimes

Martin, Sylvia, Scully, Trengove.

Wait you quoted me but quoted nothing?

I'm insulted.

Bah to you Sir!

mine:

B: Matthew Whelan (45) Matthew Warnock (37) Chip Frawley (8)
HB: Jack Grimes (16) Jared Rivers (27) Cale Morton (10)
C: Brad Green, vice-Capt. (18) Brock McLean (5) Aaron Davey (36)
HF: Jack Watts (4) Colin Garland (20) Colin Sylvia (12)
F: Liam Jurrah (48) Matthew Bate (6) Austin Wonnaemirri (33)
Foll: Mark Jamar (40) Cameron Bruce (32) Brent Moloney, Capt. (22)
I/C (from): Nathan Jones (2) Ricky Petterd (15) Stef Martin (34) Jamie Bennell (43) Sam Blease (46) James Strauss (47) Draft Pick #1

my worries are the following:
small defenders - apart from whelan we lack experience and nous. grimes and morton are both better utilised further up the ground than deep down back.
midfield - slow as treacle. i'm still unconvinced you can have mclean, moloney (who should be named skipper), and jones in the same side. they're too similar and not good enough. we also lack a genuine tagger; bruce ain't it, but he might be best utilised in that role in 2010 and beyond.
forwards - i've slotted garland into chf because we don't really have one, and with warnock, frawley, rivers and martin we're probably well covered for tall defenders so i think he can be trialled as a kpp forward presuming he's okay to resume from his injury.
rucks - i think jamar and meesen are our best combination, but martin's flexibility gets him into the side.
depth - we're light on for it! strauss, blease, whoever we pick with our first pick (and you'd presume they'd be able to come straight in) are all young and (presumably) lightly framed, but we need them to get game experience. petterd, bennell, cheney, and jetta all have upside but downside as well.
