Pies v swans - 12:05pm @ Victoria Park. Saturday March 22

Teams out tonight.

I'm very excited for this game. While not too many spots for vfl players given we will have a decent number of afl players, but its a new vfl squad. I think people will be pleased the talent we have recruited.

It’s pretty disappointing that sides don’t come out until tonight. You’d think they would want to give fans as much time and opportunity.

Always been the case. They should do thur night teams for everyone.
But usually;
Thur night team release for friday games
Friday night team releases for sat-sun games.

The Magpies’ 2024 draftees in Joel Cochran, Charlie West and Will Hayes headline the inclusions, as well as AFL Premiership Players Will Hoskin-Elliott and Billy Frampton.

Ed Allan, Tew Jiath, Charlie Dean, Wil Parker, Jakob Ryan, Harry DeMattia, Lachie Sullivan, Oscar Steene and Iliro Smit round out the AFL listed players set to run out for the Pies.

Hoskin-Elliott was sidelined for Collingwood's Round AFL 1 clash after sustaining a knock to his back during the Opening Round, but following training this week he has been deemed fit to return.
Smit and Steene take to the field after recovering from larynx and finger injuries respectively.

Recruit Brady Grey will play his first game for the Club after switching from the Peel Thunder in the WAFL. The 29-year-old joined the Club in late 2024 in an off-field capacity and brings 21 games of AFL experience after his five years at Fremantle.

Leadership group:
The Club’s VFL leadership group has been finalised for 2025 with Glover set to lead the side once again. He will be joined in the leadership group by Grey, Harrison Kennedy, Chad Mulvogue, Angus Seivers, Tom Wilson and Curtis Taylor.

In the absence of Glover, Brady Grey will captain the side on Saturday.

That's a very strong side for us

That's a very strong side for us
It actually feels on the weaker side to me for this time of year. The make up of our injury list has skewed towards 25+ players on the list to this point. The likes of Markov, HH, Johnson, Macrae and Cox (if Mihocek was actually managed) would really thicken the soup to borrow a Buckleyism.

Poor old WHE. The VFL team get the addition of a 200 game AFL player and some 18 year olds headline the inclusions.

I'm looking forward to this, and it's good to see we at least have a reasonable number of senior-listed players in the side for once. I'm very keen to see how our young, untried AFL-listers look, and really hoping Steene has a bit more luck this time around, as watching he and Smit hopefully progress this year should be fun.

The Sydney team doesn't look that strong at all, with only eight from their AFL list in the side (compared to 14 for us). They've named Mitchell as an emergency for the VFL, but as he's one of the emergencies for the AFL team I'm assuming they'll hold him back.

I hope we can come up with a decent win (any kind of a win would do), something we haven't seen much of at this level for a while!

Looking forward to watching this game. A heap of players l will keep a close eye on, particularly Frampton and Dean, now that McInnes has gone down. WHE, will he put his hand up for a recall.
Really want to see DeMattia have a very good game, and can TJ and Ryan really push for senior selection.
Can't wait to see how West and Hayes go. These two l have earmarked for senior footy at some point this year, particularly Hayes..
Hopefully Allan really pushes for a senior recall in this game as well.
With our dearth of ruckman, l'm wanting to see real development in Steene, and a promising performance by Smit...

What’s the parking like now at VP?

Depending on how early or late you are - if the latter you won’t get near the ground.

I park further west along Johnson St, or in a side street, and walk a few blocks. No probs doing it that way.

Considering the “looking forward to” posts are the order of the morning it’s Cochrane, Ryan and TJ for me. I have zero faith in Frampton and Dean and whilst I’m open to moving Checkers back I doubt it happens so I’m left with those three to pin my hopes to as the next man in options. There’s a lot of experience in the back group to absorb the loss of McInnes so I’d prefer we back a longer term option over the short termers because the outcome will largely be the same.
