2283 - AFL Fantasy

Ranked 582nd.

Good start. Now time to get the proper team in and sorted

Thats the thing, i have a screen cap of a team i made as my "main team" I'm not sure i want to make too many changes to a team that scored 2337 in week 1! My mids were beastly

May need to make a change or 2 in the backlines (heavy swans and hawks) But i like my structure right now....Will add up what my original team would've scored and go from there...

You finished pretty high last year, eh?

Under 5 minutes sounds good, but you obviously spent a lot of time on RDT. Fantasy is the same with more $$, basically.

Don't have an RDT team. Refused to play AFL fantasy until I got goaded in by friends at the last minute. Wanted to enjoy watching the footy this year. Alas, WCE vs. WBD tonight was not the joy it could have been as I was counting stats.

I think its a delicate situation to be in. Generally I would say stick to your guns and go with the players you identified preseason as being your players, especially if they still played the role you expected, but just had an off game. If they changed roles from what they did in preseason/last year, I would consider keeping your R1 player or looking at someone you may have missed.

I'm definitely going to make a few changes from what my predicted R2 team was going to be just from what I saw this weekend with one or two players who I identified in the preseason to do well, but didn't start in my predicted team or my R1 team.

I think the main thing for everyone to remember is to make sure you jump on the best rookies in each position that you may have missed (ie Langdon) and see whether you can't slide in a midpricer or two. And to make sure that you don't jump the boat on your guns just because they had a bad week.

??

Either way you've done well in the past. It's the same principles every year with an element of luck.

We'll see how much of a joke of a game this is to the person who wins the 70k:thumbsu:

Possibly.

Give it some time though. Remains to be seen how it'll all work out in the end.

With unlimited trades and the ability to select a very strong starting side most teams are going to be complete very early.

Add to that the fact that everyone has had a chance to see new player roles and we are going to have a whole heap of very similar sides. Completely wipes out the advantages of putting time in during the offseason and picking up a gem because now everyone can get that player in.

Last year was enough of an example imo and this year has been made easier again. Saving trades in RDT means you can actually make a run at it late or go for bust. There just isn't enough variety or challenges to make the game competitive. Winning the $$ would be awesome but only one person can win so at least make it competitive to keep interest up.

I've accepted the fact that due to everyone's teams being inevitably the same, I might have to bring back a little friend of mine. Times are tough :rainbow::rainbow:

It doesn't wipe out that advantage. People will jump on players that did really well in R1 - which is just one datapoint. The coaches who put in the time and research will still float to the top.

I do have concerns about it though. Catch 22 for me...I like having two trades each week but hate all the teams ending up the same. RDT is more rewarding, but fantasy is still fun.

Lets look at the gem selection scenario for both games:

AF: Free hit round 1 so no trades are wasted and anyone can jump on board with the only advantage being that round 1 score.

RDT: Other teams have to make the choice on whether or not to trade in that player and burn a very valuable trade or to go without until later in the season. Either way, a win if that player continues to perform.

It's a massive difference. Of course that's true that coaches that do the research and put the time in have an advantage but the new rules massively close the gap.

Managed 2122.

Have no idea how haha, picked my team with little to no fantasy knowledge in comparison to previous years.
Trading options until after round 2 make it easy to recover from a few guys I picked that didn't make it out on the ground for round 1..
