Round 1 Team Prediction Thread

Ok the pre-season is over now, and what have we learned from it?

What do you think the round 1 side will be? Or perhaps just what do you want the round 1 side to be.

My prediction as follows.

B: Whelan, Nicholson, Bizzell
HB: Yze, Carroll, Brown
C: Johnstone, Moloney, Green
HF: Davey, Miller, Pickett
F: Robertson, Neitz, P.Johnson
R: White, Sylvia, J.McDonald
INT: Motlop, Bate, Jones, Wheatley

EMG: C.Johnson, Jamar, Bartram, Ward

Injured: Bruce, McLean, Rivers, Bell

Firstly I wouldn't play Bruce or McLean, both will be very underdone and need a game or 3 at Sandy. I could easily see Bruce rushed into the team however.

Moloney has been very rusty but makes the side on reputation. Wheatley has had a crap pre-season, and I would probably pick Ward ahead of him but I can't see it happening.

Not sure both Bate and Jones will make the cut, but I hope they do.

Nicholson in because Rivers is injured and Ferguson has done nothing.

C.Johnson very harsh to miss, if one of Bate and Jones don't play I would expect him to get the nod.

I am not a Dees supporter, but that line-up looks pretty close.
McLean and Rivers will miss, which is obvious.
Bruce will play. Too valuable for the team. Even if he take the best tagger away from the game which can free up the likes of JOhnstone and Green.
Speaking of which, i havent heard anything about Bruces' injury...
Fill me in...?

And i also heard P.Johnson jarred his knee in the latest practice match.
Is that correct?

Yep thats true, hopefully its not that bad, he has had bad trouble with his knee in recent times.

Especially at the Weagles.

I reckon:

B : Whelan, Carroll, Bizzell

Carroll to take Fevola, Whelan to take Lappin if he starts in the pocket

HB: Brown, Nicholson, Yze

Nicholson will take Whitnall, this is where Carlton could win this, if Whitnall fires we're in trouble. Yze and Brown to give us run off half back

C : Johnstone, Moloney, Green

Moloneys been a bit off colour this pre-season but he may just be a bit rusty, TJ all class, Green to give us a goal-scoring option off the wing.

HF : Pickett, Miller, Davey (Bruce if fit, Davey to FP)

Pickett to start HFF, can go where we need him to later on, Miller needs to kick a few more this year, Davey to carry on pre-season form into real stuff, my tip for the B&F.

FF : P. Johnson, Neitz, Robertson

Good to see Neita bag a couple on Friday, we will need him this year, PJ ahead of Jamar at this stage, will rest White when needed, should play majority of game up forward though i believe, Robbo is Robbo, always gives you something

R : White, McDonald, Sylvia (McLean if fit, Sylvia to IC)

Need White to fire this year, shouldnt have to play so much with PJ and the Russian waiting in the wings, Sylvia has shown enough to warrant a spot in the middle and J Mac is an everpresent

IC : CJ, Motlop, Bate, Ferguson

Defensive frailties may be exposed, need Fergie there as cover, CJ has also done enough to warrant selection as has Bate. Motlop unlucky to miss out on starting gig

EDIT : Possibly having Davey start in FP, and Robbo to HFF.

He may well have if he had not broken a finger ruling him out till about round 4. Will be one to watch later in the year.

I don't think we need Carroll, Nicholson, Bizzell and Ferguson in the same team. It takes away runing options and in reality ND is more likely to use Miller or Neitz in defence than have a player on the bench potentially for the whole game.

The full forward line is a bit tall. On reflection I would either push Neitz out to the half forward line and bring say Motlop into a pocket next to Robbo and Johnson or bench Johnson and bring him on in spurts.

How do you guys think Mark Jamar will go this season?

Jamar is an interesting one. He is probably the better pure ruckman than Paul Johnson at the moment but Johnson has another string to his bow in being able to play in the forward line.

I wouldn't pick both of them in the same team so I would think PJ will get the back up ruckman gig from round 1 and Jamar will have to play well at Sandy to push him out.

Pretty much identical to Yze's team, as much as I'd like the Biz back in form we need Wheatley for this game. I'd rather Jones get a few games down at Sandy and keep showing good form as I don't like rushing players in, Bate is ready and Motlop and CJ have had very good pre-season form. Also agree with Yze that Fergy should be there because Carlton most likely will have Fevola, Whitnall, Waite and Fisher in the same side and in that case Whitnall would go back, and Nicho wouldn't be able to go with Waite and Fisher as they would be too quick so Wheatley could take Fisher, Carroll to Waite and Nicho to Fev. Also as Yze said if Carlton will have a chance their forwardline will have to fire so I would take the extra measures of having Wheatley there and Fergy on the bench.
