Have to agree with that seems the most in form fit players have been selected. Hopefully they can get the job done and then create a real headache for selection in two weeks assuming guys like Clarke, Crozier, CPearce, Sylvia and Ibbotson could all be pushing for selection having played WAFL next weekend.

So it's fair to say Lyon does value integrity of selection more than some on here were giving him credit for.

Sylvia and Clancee both proven players, but both left out in favour of youngsters who've had better preseasons.

For those who missed these beauties:

Lyon's Lore 101:
The Team Picks Itself
Reward For Effort
Work Your Way In etc...

Sheridan will play.
Sylvia will not.
These are just meaningless motherhood statements IMO. Clancee Pearce has had as bad a preseason as anyone yet he is in the squad. Past form counts, regardless of what people here might believe and what Ross Lyon might tell the media.

He's in it to win. Winning means more than "integrity of selection", and he will pick the team that he thinks has the best chance of getting 4 points, regardless of who appeared to "deserve it more".

Every coach loves to say that nobody's spot is guaranteed and all spots are up for grabs because that's the best way to motivate people. But just like the mum who tells her kids how handsome/pretty they are, it's not always true.

I mean even Ballas mum probably told him he was handsome. She lied.

Feeling pretty flat about the Collingwood team, our defence of Maxwell Langdon(debut) Frost(rookie) Toovey (1st game back from ACL) Brown Goldsack would have to be one of the worst in the AFL and you guys will likely score very easily. No williams sinclair reid is a huge blow.

Well, that would be nice. But we don't have a long history of scoring easily. I must admit though, I did have the same thought.

Gee that is an ordinary looking backline for the Pies. If our midfield can break even at worst we're looking at a decent advantage in that area.

As a first round team, i dont think it gets much better than that for us.. feeling more confident + the Pies outs and their backline looks extremely thin

Rapt to see Neale, Sutcliffe and Sheridan in. :)

MdB (and I am a BIG fan of what he brings to the team, so this is not a "drop de Boer" comment) will have to turn his reasonably un-noteworthy pre-season form around pretty quickly with Clancee and Sylvia sitting just outside the 22. (edit: and SUBAN too of course)

Will be a test for the young guns to maintain consistency week in and week out and continue to "pick themselves" also.

But isn't it wonderful - it's a constant "step up and perform cos there's someone breathing right down your neck" scenario. :hearts:

Great effort or GTFO!

Good strong side, much more confident now. As somebody has already mentioned, if we can win/break even in the middle our forwards should score heavily against that back line (in theory).

With Ibbo to slot back into a HBF spot I think Clancee could make a great fist of DeBoer's role.

He's got the defensive capabilities, and imagine having a weapon like Clancee's boot hovering outside 50 to punish turnovers.

Interesting - observations:

1) Neale starting on the ball
2) Sheridan forced his way into the starting line up
3) As above with Sutcliffe (and on a wing too)
4) Matt Deboer is still getting a game :p

Don't want to be a dick but they aren't really interesting since you can take absolutely nothing away from how the lineups are arranged. Pretty sure MDB was named at FF often last year and Sandi was named at CHB. Having said that I truly hope it's an indication that Sutty will be starting 22!

Dare I say it, but similar to Mark Nicoski in his latter years (which weren't spent on the sidelines).

Regarding the emergencies, I wouldn't be surprised if 1 of Clarke or Sylvia were a late inclusion.

Yeah there's Ibbo too, of course - how far away is he?

But Clancee would be an excellent defensive forward, and he has that one weapon that MdB lacks - ability to kick accurately over a bloody long way.
