Before Saturday night's game, you need to name your GWS/Sydney players in 1 of 3 categories:
1. The 18
2. The Sub
3. Emergency (default for anyone not listed)

Emergency players will be used only if
a) They play on Saturday
b) You run out of players to make up your 18
c) You have no non-Swans/Giants outside that 28 who play in round 1

The sub is a new rule for 2012 that I made up a couple of days ago.
If you have a player in your 18 after interchange replacements who plays less than 60% game time, your sub will be activated. How much of your sub's score counts depends on how much game time your sub and the subbed player get, as in this table:

The row headings are sub game time, the columns are game times of the player subbed out. If you run out of interchange players, your nominated sub will be used as a replacement and you won't have a sub. If your nominated sub does not play, he will not be replaced so you won't have a sub.

I really don't know if I'll have 18 next week. I think I will and if so I'm thinking I'll have players in defence who'll score higher.

I realise that he won't come in as a replacement unless I have less than 18 who actually after play next week.
