Autopsy Round 13, 2026: Hawks get leashed

There is no amount of “territory” that allows someone to call a complete stranger a weak campaigner over the fence, and no reality where doing that directly to another person is not a personal attack.

The idea that players should just deal with it or that it’s standard behavior because they play professional sport is real backwards thinking.

Your take that he has no right to be annoyed at being called a weak campaigner over the fence by some random stranger is just completely broken.
No no, I didn't say he doesn't have the right to get annoyed, everyone does.

What I don't like is in that interview he said yeah hopefully he gets kicked out or something. It's the end of the game so I think he's implying he gets banned from attending games.

That's what my problem is, in no world should that spectator gets banned for saying just that.

I wasn’t making any point whatsoever
Well that’s even weirder then that you choose to recall something from 20years ago for no apparent reason or point.

got abused for my thoughts that we lost it at selection, but we absolutely did and now we can kiss top 2 away and have to find a way to beat Freo and or Sydney to get any further than last year. To cute, too soft at selection.
The coach doesn't care about top 2, he's just worried about top 4 and said as much in the press conference. Team's mindset reflects that of its leader.

Yep, it's not just about the optics, it's a practical issue having a captain who loses their focus like that. And last night he did, A LOT. Sicily's playing performance wasn't bad when he had his mind on that but he spent far too much time acting like a complete idiot, getting riled up exactly the way Dogs wanted him to. Crucially, when it was clear we were no longer dominating, he was an absent captain; instead of doing his best to ensure the team kept mentally tough and focussed, he was completely ridiculous, expending far too much energy on stuff that had nothing to do with winning that game. If it was any other player, we'd think they'd flipped, be worried for their mental health. The contrast to Newk's approach as captain was stark. Funny thing is, I'm a fan of Sicily, he's a magnificent player and not dumb as a human being, but when he sees red and loses the plot the team isn't his top priority.
It’s taken the focus off b smith being a complete ass

Not much hand wringing about that in the media

+17 inside 50’s.
+77 disposals
+14 contested possessions
+77 uncontested possessions
+41 marks
+5 marks inside 50
+5 contested marks
-1 centre clearances(even)

1.11 in a half. That’s the game.

They scored 77
We scored 71

That’s the game.

Expected scores mean “jack”.

You can have all the footy you want, and all the inside 50s and shots you want.

If you don’t convert them - as Sam says “we didn’t finish off our work”- you lose.

Then I’ll say it again, your idea of what is acceptable behaviour is completely broken.

If you think that just because you pay some money to go to the football, or that players get paid to be there, that you have the right to call someone a weak campaigner over the fence without any repercussions then I just don’t know what reality you are living in.

No shit Sherlock, did you even read the post you responded to?

To be honest if Abbey doesn’t ask, it’s not mentioned

Yeah - I effectively agreed with you Dr Watson.

I just think referring to Expected Scores is a waste of time. They completely ignore the cause of our draw to Collingwood and loss to the Western Bulldogs. Poor ball use inside forward 50.

Kicking 1.11 in a half says it all. That was your point wasn’t it?

Screwed by bad kicking but please leave the faux tough guy shit to Essendon. Sicily is arguably our most important player, but opposition teams know they can get a response if he is needled and he seems to fall for it every time. He could take a few lessons from Newcombe about playing like a captain.

Ive had time to sleep on the Meek debacle.

Take out the set shots.

He had:
21 hitouts
16 touches
4 marks
13 contested possessions (2nd most on ground)
3 shots on goal - yes, all shanks.

On that form, if you're dropping 1 ruck, it can't be him.
If he'd kicked those three goals he'd have had a great game (and yes that is a big if).

Would have had 5 big marks as well if the ump hadn't have given than super soft free to the doggies player right in front of goal (no surprise there of course).

Just woke up and had time to calm down with some perspective, even though we lost an unloseable game we still have Nash, Gunston and Barrass to come back to a team that was clearly a 5 goal better team than an opponent that will finish in the top 10.

Will still be top 4 at the end of the round with one of the easiest runs home, fix our kicking and we are in a great position to tilt for a flag.

Yeah, other than kicking goals I’m not sure I want our players doing anything he did back then.
Yeah look at the end of the day, I wasn't around 30 years ago, but I'm guessing you and strapping were. And I'm guessing some of the stuff coming from the crowd back then, (your generation) was pretty vile, hence why you feel so strongly about what should and should not be said now.

Fair enough….. wait, are you calling me old?!

Some of the stuff coming from the crowd back then would dead set get you arrested today. Games at vic park would genuinely make a sailor blush. It wasn’t just the crowd though, it was the players too. Some truly abhorrent behaviour happening on a regular basis from everyone involved, and do t give me that ‘it was a different time’ malarkey. People knew it was wrong, they just got away with it. Different generation my taint.

On plugger, he was a gun, but if he were playing today he’d be banned sine die, with good reason. Dunstall, also a gun, would be just fine.

the only certain wins on the run home are Richmond and Essendon. Its an easy fixture, but we are no monties

Some of the melts in here are incredible, calling players immature whilst crying liked a tired 3 year old, claiming you were ‘abused’ on this board for having an opinion contested, saying x player should never play again. To the majority of folks in this thread, grow teh fook up, you’re embarrassing. If you can’t act like an adult then give your phone to your mum and go play in the back yard. How some of you are gainfully employed is mind boggling.

On the game - bad kicking is bad footy, we’ve been inaccurate all year and now it has cost us, a learning experience. Need to work a plan for the flood. Need to keep Watson in the game in second halves.

Also, c’mon north, do it for old Jim.
Dammit north, why must you do Jim like this.

How were we shanking easy shots if we couldn't get any easy shots? Bevo himself said we should have won. I take your general point but on this occasion we just fluffed our lines, pure and simple.
1. We get forced to take shots outside 45m or on difficult angles due to the flooding of our forward line in the 2nd half
2. When we do get an easy shot - ie Meek holding the ball free right in front of goal - there’s so much pressure on the kick because we’ve only kicked one goal for the half and therefore he misses
