Something needs to be done about our small forwards what’s gone from a massive strength has turned into a huge weakness.

Wiz has been elite with 33 goals, problem is Moore, Ginni and Croc have 31 combined. Wiz also has the most tackles inside 50 of the quartet.

I know part of it is coaching having them up the ground but it’s also a lot on performance as well. Wiz also has the second most score involvements.

Which leads to games like the second half where teams can focus on the Wiz as our other smalls aren’t a threat.

Jars should have been HTB but they ended up with a shot on goal from directly infront (rather than the pocket) 5 seconds later and missed. They can't really complain about that one.

Yep need another X factor small forward- all the focus is on Wiz atm as the others play up the ground.
Think that was the reasoning with the Beattie pick in the MSD - we need to find another

Something I've noticed is we kick alot of flashy goals but very few easy goals - Cats, Dogs, Pies all seem to get easy marks 15-25 out, also a lot on the goal line. Need better strategy inside 50 - we more than have the talent

I wonder if there a break down available for shots at goal and from what angle/distance and conversion percentage?

I'm sure I've a couple of other posters suggest that our misses have been from bad angles etc.

It seems as though when one player gets the yips in flows through the team. We've all seen the hard work the team has done to move the ball up the field, hit up Chol who has taken a great mark and then unfortunately misses an easy set shot. It must be disheartening and then the next player feels the pressure of the easy miss previously and on it goes.

One positive at least on the goal kicking in 2026 is that The Wizard is now an absolutely lethal shot for goal both on the run and set shot.

Especially on the run he gets great power in those around the corner shots for a guy his size.

You have to give him credit for turning it around from his first season where he was missing lots of easy goals.

Meek's goal kicking isn't up to AFL standard? If he had kicked 50 goals in his career, at his current accuracy (60%) he'd be the 41st most accurate player out of the 96 players that have kicked 50+ goals for Hawthorn. He is accurate enough, he just had the yips on Friday.

He has never played a good game against Witts. More than comfortable with Chol being second ruck, Gunners, Nash and Barrass back in. It does mean that Ryan makes way for Hardwick to go back, and Perez is probably a little unlucky, but probably makes way to fit Nash in on the bench. I wouldn't want to see Nairn dropped but that is the other possibility whilst he's still developing.

So you wanted Meek dropped? And because he wasn’t we lost?

I mean his goal kicking from that range is actually more than the difference in score we lost by.

His early season form has been directly impacted by hustwaite and maginness going back to boxhill so he’s playing more predominantly small forward the last few weeks.
