Re: Official Changes

Fairly straight forward.
I think if Hawkins plays well in the magoo's this week he'll come back in for the Bombers/Pies/Dogs combo...

Re: Official Changes

Hawkins definitely needs more time in the twos, just to get some confidence and his fitness up a bit.

Hopefully he can come back into the senior line-up and kick a few goals in the weeks to come.

Re: Official Changes

No real surprise. Rooke was an automatic selection, Tenace was first in the line for the door.

In saying that, Tenace is not a lost cause. He showed a bit of what we need from him when he came back in the line up. He needs to build on that now.

Re: Official Changes

Rooke will play a ripper out there this week, this sort of game will suit him very well

Here is Sydney's line up in case anyone is interested

SYDNEY SWANS
B: Richards, Barry, Dempster
HB: Bevan, C.Bolton, Mathews
C: Ablett, Kirk, Malceski
HF: R.O'Keefe, O'Loughlin, J.Bolton
F: Davis, Goodes, Buchanan
FOLL: Jolly, McVeigh, Fosdike
I/C: Everitt, Laidlaw, Moore, Schmidt
EMER: Schneider, Thornton, Vogels

IN: Davis, Laidlaw, Moore
OUT: Hall (groin), Grundy, Schneider

Re: Official Changes

Against this swans lineup without hall we do look a bit tall down back..

The bonus is that we have Talls who can play small. Scarlett and Harley can both play the quicker smaller people.

Heres an article i wrote for another website:

Where and when: Saturday, June 30, Skilled Stadium, 2.10pm

Head to head: Geelong 108 wins, Sydney 93 wins

Last time: Geelong 14.6 (90) d Sydney 9.9 (63), round 20, 2006, at Skilled Stadium

Teams
SYDNEY SWANS

HB: Bevan, C.Bolton, Mathews
C: Ablett, Kirk, Malceski
HF: R.O'Keefe, O'Loughlin, J.Bolton
F: Davis, Goodes, Buchanan
FOLL: Jolly, McVeigh, Fosdike
I/C: Everitt, Laidlaw, Moore, Schmidt
EMER: Schneider, Thornton, Vogels

IN: Davis, Laidlaw, Moore
OUT: Hall (groin), Grundy, Schneider
GEELONG
B: Milburn, Scarlett, Enright
HB: Mackie, Egan, Harley
C: Corey, Bartel, Wojcinski
HF: Chapman, Mooney, Varcoe
F: Johnson, N.Ablett, Stokes
FOLL: Ottens, Ling, G.Ablett

IN: Rooke
OUT: Tenace
Betting:
Gee: $1.25
Syd: $3.65

Key Match Ups:
Harley v O’Loughlin
Harley loves the smaller and faster opponents. This match up is perfect for him, both players are quick and agile. With Hall out Micky O will be asked to kick a bag for the swannies.

Egan v Goodes
Egan will take the other forward in Goodes, who should start at full forward. Egan will be looking for help from Milburn who reads the play really well.

Scarlett v O’Keefe
This is a big match up. With Hall missing and the other match ups taking place Scarlett will take the small but very quick O’Keefe. If Jolly or Everitt push forward then Scarlett will take them.

Ottens & Blake v Jolly & Everitt
Massive ruck duel mounting, and will be critical to the outcome of the match. Effective hit outs will mean midfield dominance.

Wild Card:
Travis Varcoe
He had a career high 17 touches and has kicked a goal in nearly every game, however cats fans have not seen the most of Varcoe. The amount of pressure he puts on defence will make it hard for Sydney to get clean disposal. His acts of brilliance could swing the match if Geelong is down.

Strategies:
Geelong:
Geelong are going to keep their same strategy happening. If they can run the ball and break the lines Sydney’s defence will struggle to contain the dangerous cats. They will look for run by Mackie and Wojcinski. Nathan Ablett will present at Centre Half forward while the ever-dangerous Steve Johnson will look to kick another bag.

Sydney:
Geelong are clearance kings, and Sydney will look to shut down the game. By putting extra numbers into the midfield they will try and shut down the cats run. Stopping players like Wojcinski and Mackie will be a high priroty. Sydney may also drop a player back to get into the hole of Geelong’s leading forwards. They will aim to keep the scoring low and the pressure high.

Tip: Geelong by 60 points.

Re: Official Changes

Rookie will take Goodes and smash him when he goes near the ball like last time.

LOL. I realise Rooke was very good last time the two teams met and won - deservedly - the three Brownlow votes. But Goodes was clearly the best Swan too and did enough in the umpires' minds to get one Brownlow vote himself.

I agree that Goodes got quite a bit of it last time we played, but with the pressure Rooke put on him all day, the majority of his possessions were rather ineffective, either to a one on one contest or towards the boundary line.

Plus, Goodes is nowhere near the form he was in last year.
That 2nd half of the season he was tearing everyone a new hole.
Can't get near it this year, hopefully it stays that way for another week...

Re: Official Changes

Really small forward line for the Swans. I thought one of Grundy, Vogels, LRT or Doyle might have been brought in. Now the Cats look too big down there. I can't see all of Scarlett, Egan and Harley playing down back and this may upset your team balance.

I'm tipping a VERY ugly game.

Not really. As noted, Scarlett and Harley both play small as well.

I'm tipping a VERY ugly game.

That's a safe bet.

Thanks for agreeing with me Winty. Most of his posessions go out of bounds.

Apparently, the club nearly brought in Spencer to play on him cause of his elite fitness and skills. They thought against it though seeing as he'd give too many free kicks away. Dropping the chin, holding the chin, chin in the back e.t.c.
