FT. Williamstown 13.4. 82 defeated by Box Hill 13.14. 92.

It was looking like a disappointing loss because we kept missing despite outplaying them in every metric. We would get multiple looks then Willy could go coast to coast without missing. However, a five-goal final quarter ended up being enough.

Reeves was BOG. Winning the ruck battle and taking marks around the ground. His second half was exceptional. Charged forward and kicked 3 goals, including 2.1. in the last. Deserves to be playing AFL.

Serong had a fantastic game. His work on the wing was good before we shifted him back. He takes marks and starts attacking chains. Kicked the sealer with a bomb from 45.

Ryan won plenty of the ball and used it well. A good return.

Blanck did a great job and was unlucky his opponent made the most of limited chances. Clunked a heap of intercept marks and directly saved three goals.

Breust was the only forward that looked like scoring until Ned was there. Great game from Punky who also applied defensive pressure.

Mackenzie and Butler had tidy games where they won plenty of the ball. Good defensive intent. My shared criticism is that neither felt particularly impactful with their touches.

CJ was good without being great. The team looked dangerous whenever he was involved in rebound.

HH was being hard tagged. His opponent wasn’t even looking at the ball and would just block his runs. Had a very influential last quarter.

Anderson won a heap of 1v1 contests and attacked the ball hard. Ball use was scrappy.

Scaife had some nice moments, but his involvements were very limited.

Ramsden had a down game. Took some nice marks higher up but never looked like scoring.

Frost took some nice intercepts but was quiet overall.

Seamus, Hill and McCabe had little impact.

Personal rant: The commentators constantly talking about how Box Hill hadn’t beaten a top side, which then shifted to Box Hill having 16 AFL listed players once we started gaining momentum, felt incredibly biased.

Having a great year, hoping we can keep him next year.
He’ll go and that’s ok, I’d rather we lose him than Ramsden.

I’m going to be very disappointed if we can’t retain Serong at the end of the year. Developing nicely
I can’t see it. Reckon we delist him if we don’t get any takers in trade week.

I think with Frost and Blanck almost certainly being elsewhere, the club would not want to lose ALL our tall depth in one fell swoop...

Checking the fixture (or should I say the Ramdomist) we have a 2 tough games in our last 3 following the bye before the finals start.

Fair chance we still finish top if not in the top 2 for hopefully home finals.

He is a natural footy player and adapts quickly. I think that he'll end up a good AFL player, and I have the feeling it will be in the midfield.
I like him but the fact is particularly if Gunston goes around again, there aren't a lot of free senior spots past assumedly Bruest and Frost moving on. Meek is already just about recontracted. You'd offer a contract to Butler and Ryan ahead of him, Worpel obviously too if we're not pushing him out as a FA. The rest - Mitchell, Scaife, JUH, Matt Hill - aren't senior list spots.

A lot will depend on what contracted players request a trade - Reeves, Ramsden (Cat A), Blanck (Cat A), Hustwaite, even Scrim or CJ as a surprise - but can't imagine it will take much for the cards to be stacked against Jai.

Thought blanck played fantastic today McLaughlin leading the medal was lucky to kick 3, 2 of them from the boundary.
Reeves deserves a shot and with Meek poor maybe it’s time.
Breust looked good today with his movement good in case of injury.
Of the mids I have butler ahead of Mackenzie partly for balance with our other mids but I’m just not sold on Mackenzie. Good game not great at least he kept things simpler today but still caught a lot no left foot etc jury’s out. Anderson such a terrier but disposal will cost him if not tidied up.
I like Hustwaite, Bodie Ryan and Serong but think they are in that vortex of too good for VFL not quite up to AFL.
Not much from Ramma today but entitled to a down day and shown enough development this year to persist.
Little from Scaife Mitchell or McCabe today same Hill although he gets a free pass this year.
Good win somewhat against the odds looking forward to next week…oh wait the fixturing people have done what?

Doesn't look to have the composure to make it as a mid in the clinches, for mine.

To be fair to Serong he hasn't had much of a chance at AFL level.

Fair enough. The way I see it is that he’s just really clean handling the ball, the number one requirement for any mid. Added to that he’s already had an impact and across all three lines, and found the footy too. Then there’s the nagging thought about how good his brother is in the middle…

Probably not gonna happen, I’m just a fan of the way he plays.

A great write up for our boys after a great win.
I knew Ryan was a great kick of the footy, but that's impressive:

Bodie Ryan (23 disposals, seven marks, four inside 50s)

“So we get Bodes back after he obviously broke his collarbone against Collingwood and he slotted straight back in. Went down and played across halfback, had the 23 disposals, 21 kicks at 876 percent.

Yeah saw that lol

We play Southport (2nd) and Dogs (3rd). Need to win one of those for a top 2 finish and 2 x home finals.

Agree

With GWS losing yesterday and with our percentage, depending on results I reckon we will finish either 1st, 2nd or 3rd. A win this week or next week and then another against Casey in the final game should seal us one of the top two positions.

If we beat Southport this week we can’t finish any lower than 2nd.
