Guy behind me was calling her a bitch all day. It’s people like that who ruined the experience for my daughter.

Same here, only it was an older woman doing it behind us. Nasty and unnecessary, by all means whinge and complain about umpiring but leave out the gendered insults.

The same guy used to call Jessie White a girl’s blouse. I took my daughter to see his 100th game, we left at quarter time. She’s never been back to the footy and couldn’t care less about Collingwood or footy in general. I have a photo of her with a massive grin on her face before the bounce. That soon changed.

What was he calling the male umpires? Did you express your disgust to him?
I asked him to stop, which he did although he then just replaced the word ‘bitch’ with other sarcastic barbs.

That's an old expression that I have not heard in years. A fairly tame insult back in its day. How times change.

Talking of old expressions, I do wish Channel 7 would cease showing the commercial about grandma going to the football with her granddaughter where she utters the 'chewy on your boot' line. I don't recall any women in the 60s playing football but the add implies that it was commonplace. But nobody any longer says 'chewy on your boot' unless they want to appear a complete dickhead. I don't even know what is being advertised, so the add certainly isn't connecting with me.

A lady near me says ‘chewy on your boot’ every single time an opposition player has a set shot.
Every time.

This. I thought we were killed by North's leg speed at the clearances. LDU really hurt us in the first 3 quarters.
Possibly less of a risk against Port given Wines/Boak/Drew etc but I think Rozee and Butters could hurt us.
With Adams out too with concussion I expect, a big body with leg speed could be vital in the clinches this week.

We play Adelaide next week, not Port.

I would be asking for a change of seats!
I’m on level 2 of the Ponsford, under cover and 2 minutes from the bar. If I changed seats they would put me on level 1.
Just have to put up with who sits around you. Bound to get an idiot wherever you sit.

Can you ask to have her removed for being such a dickhead? Or supply her with a more contemporary line to use on opposition players kicking for goal? Or spend more time in the bar?

The only kicker is, it’s not as simple as that. He needs to know when to go, when to block, there needs to be aN understanding of movement to facilitate clearance. I guess that has to start somewhere and I’d definitely throw him in for short bursts. Needs to start on the training track though.

I find that ad annoying in the extreme, and wish it would disappear off the screen.

But there was a strong women’s footy competition in the 1950s, which the add refers to. And as a young girl in the 1970s, I always yelled ‘chewy on your boot’ when opposition players were lining up to goal. Bit embarrassed to admit that now, and how tame of me. I’ve gotten much better at abuse since then.🙃

I will take your word for the 50s women's competition, though have to admit I never came across girls/women playing football until the 2nd half of the 70s, and even then, never actually saw a women's game being played. Given the subservient status of women in the 50s, I cannot imagine them playing at the time in an organised football competition. Cannot even recall a girl who looked remotely competent (or interested in) marking or kicking a ball, whereas now many of the teenage girls in the local competition kick further than I could as an adult. As for 'chewy on your boot', I am sure we all yelled that at some time - 40-50 years ago.

Do you know what product the ad is promoting? I can never get beyond my hatred of it to actually take any notice of what it's advertising.

Yep, important to maintain a growth mindset to abuse lexicon

Mum in her fifties introduced 'w.anker' as a preferred insult

Worked well at the footy and for road rage but I was surprised when she dropped it at the family Christmas in July with 2 nuns and old rellies at the table

Later I clarified with Mum what 'w.anker' meant

Poor woman was so embarrassed

FU BF for not even being able to type 'w***er'

Would you be still saying that if we'd lost? How about if we'd lost a few of these close ones and were 8 and 8?

Under McRae we are still yet to really put a side away and keep them away. Is that coaching?

I think McRae has been excellent, but I also think he has benefited from great assistants, fit senior players and great senior player leadership.

If it is somehow McRae that has kept injuries away for most of this year, then he has been amazing. Will be interesting to see how good a coach he is when we have no Adams, Grundy, DeGoey and Moore next weekend because he has not been given a list with any depth.

JDG, Moore, & Grundy were out yesterday.

McRae's predecessor could have similarly benefited from a great team of assistants and he did enjoy the benefit of the same on-field senior leadership last year.

If you had given me 8 and 8 at the start of the year I'd have taken it and seen it as progress. We're actually doing much better and that's a reflection of the coach, his team of assistants, and the state of the playing group. That's how it's meant to work and it hasn't in the past.

We can't reduce coaching to the size of the winning margins. That's just shifting the goalposts.

We're exceeding expectations and playing some beautiful football. Even yesterday our last quarter had sublime moments.

As you say, Fly has been good, very good. No qualifiers.

Reminds me of a church going friend who took her toddler to a service….

The kiddie shouteD out “ Jesus f&#$&*&#ing Christ “ ….. which he’d learned from his dad……

What gets me is the absolute biased commentary week in, week out against us. As soon as the tables were turned yesterday it was a relief as it stopped the North Melbourne cheer squad on fox footy, radio commentary is also just as bad. Some weeks I have to mute the volume. It’s pathetic. Good win yesterday, I said to a mate earlier this week North would come out breathing fire and brimstone

Hahaha

‘Jesus Christ’ were in my daughter’s first 10 words after hearing her mother repeat them when driving

A Ginnivan goal was an excellent example….. when he brilliantly smothered Stevos clearing kick and then gathered the ball in one motion… and then drew the free kick.

No mention of the smother/collect or the double stuff up by Stephenson.

They were willing them on in the last couple of minutes to win it
