Review Round 17: Swans vs Carlton - Match Discussion Thread

In the first half he started numerous centre bounces beside Murphy, I remember noting it at the time because it was not a matchup I was expecting. In the 2nd half and I saw Cunningham both in the forward and back lines throughout the half.

It was Cunningham on Murphy for the first half at least. McGlynn was with Gibbs and Bird on Judd. I think Bird and Cunningham shared time on Murphy after half time as Judd was side by side with Kennedy for much of the second half, from what I saw.

I was certain Cunnginham would get Yarran. Who played on him incidentally? He barely went near it.

A mix of characters - Lloyd, Kiz, Jetta at times.

All part of the learning process for young Harry..... certainly wasn't at his best but his kick for goodies to mark in the pocket late in the game was, for me, one of the prettiest plays of the day. That, Parker floating across the front of the pack for a mark and goal in the goal square, and Sam's pack mark early in the third :)))

Random observations from watching the replay, I've only seen the first quarter so far, will add more if I pick up anything interesting:

- The game was really hard to get interested in early on, Carlton had the extra man back (2 extra men?) and we didn't handle it well at all going forward.
- We benefited from two lucky frees early in the game, Bell being penalised for running too far when he only took about a dozen steps (cost Carlton a goal), and the Parker 'mark' that looked like it hit the ground (only a point). Mal's 50m penalty and goal in the last minute of the first quarter was pretty soft I thought. Guess that made up for the deliberate rushed behind call against Malceski in the corresponding game last year, heh.
- Parker actually contested a throw-in inside our forward 50 at one point because there was no ruckman at the contest, as Pyke didn't get there in time.

I know, I just thought the board needed some balance :p

Watching second quarter, Rampe's tackling was even better than I remembered watching live, and they generally stick, too. Carlton had a crack in the first half but didn't hurt us enough with their possessions.

I thought we could of lowered the eyes earlier and dominated more in the first half

yup totally agree, like Parker's kick to Reid's advantage for his second goal

Field kicking was bizarre at times in the first half. Benny kicking to the man on the mark, kizza and at least a couple of others grubbing the ball less than 20m.

Plenty to work on.
