Is it the cold? Is it too hard to get there on a workday night?

The Friday night matches are touted as a showcase for our club to show its' wares - we did that in spades... but why didn't the fans show up?

It was the cold last week, a birthday this week for me, so it all depends (plus my train line is getting redone to be added to metro services which means disruptions) for people outside of interest, 26k for me is ok when you have a side traveling as Adelaide was, compare it to the West Coast game maybe since they were traveling much better and thus interest was much higher?

What I liked:
Tackling: special mention to Dal Santo's 4 minutes into the 2nd quarter, standing on the mark he intercepts the running player and holds him up beautifully
Geary as sub: Came on and had 10 kicks in the last quarter. Also freed up Armo.
Milney: Duh. Best small forward of the decade.
Schneider: Gun barrel straight.
Dumpmaster: Destroyed Vince.
Big Ben & Kosi in the back 50: Two awesome, contested mark man mountains. Just plonk them in the middle of a pack and watch them come out with it.
Atmosphere: Truly one-sided, the Crows must've felt as if they'd stepped into the Cathouse.

What I didn't like:
Kicking for goal in the third: 4.9 is disappointing, especially considering some of the missed shots.
Coverage: The amount of gametime missed by the coverage was incredible. I'm in favour of fining networks for every second of actual play they miss (particularly bounces, throw-ins, kick ins and showing assistant coaches being interviewed during the goddamn game)

My problem with Friday night games:
I finally get to knock off, drive home through Friday night gridlock, throw some different clothes on grab the Misses and straight back into the car, drive to Casino , rushed bite to eat , and the game has started when I get there.
Worth the rush on this occasion though, I dont know the last time I ever heard the crowd singing the song as they walk across the bridge towards the train station.

Topping it all off we went into the Casino ( left the kids at home for once ), and won enough chipping round the edge of the Roulette table to pay for carpark, + Dinner + ...

Lol, I think you're mistaking Polo for someone else. He doesn't understand what 'cheap and cheerful' touches are.

Agree. Crap comment. Had the most contested possessions of any Saint, and some of his extractions from congestion helped set the game up. 5 or more possessions each quarter was indicative of his effort. 7 tackles too.

Maybe he was thinking Tambling but said Polo by mistake.

I was going to say I think there needs to be a special mention for Polo, and Gamble.

I got chills at that little pass to Steven then to Riewoldt (it was Riewoldt) - the slow-mo of it after it was just like, "woh!". I thought Polo really started to show why he is a steal.

Also, loved Gamble's work - unselfish give to Milney, and there was that great passage where he just ran and pressured THREE different Crows players in the backline. That made me happier than any goal he would have kicked given the context of the game. Showed who he's becoming.

Also, how many players did we have who were under 25 in our side?

Everyone in our batch of the ladder has a bye before the end. All we need is to pull a win against Collingwood out of our asses, really.

I'm not disputing it's in our hands, I'm disputing that a team in ou part of the ladder , has a bye.

You are correct that Freo has no byes remaining, "majority rule" Jimmy is close though as the remaining byes, by my count is;

Richmond, Brisbane, Sydney rnd19
Dogs rnd20
North rnd21
Cats rnd22
Blues rnd23
Ess rnd24

of which the bold would be teams who, at the moment, are most at "risk" of us closing in or making an impact to their position. (given we play the Blues in round 24 after their bye.)

Polo's in close handball work was first rate.

Gamble also worked really hard, but he still works hard in the ways that he prefers. Runs really hard rather than strong body work. However, he's doing the right things to stay in the side right now.

I thought we were going to take a few weeks to crack the eight so to get in this week thanks to our massive win (as well as some major help from Carlton) is a better result than I could have thought for, made all the sweeter considering that Essendon is the team we knocked out of the eight.

Feels good to be back in the eight.

We dropped out of the eight when Sydney defeated Western Bulldogs, but were elevated back into the eight when Carlton defeated Essendon

Saints back in Eighth spot

Again, how many of our players out there were under 25? Just given Gleeson's article saying we had no youth, I thought even with at least 4 great young players out, we were quite young.

Hm, off the top of my head we had:
Ben Mcevoy
Jack Steven
David Armitage
Jarryn Geary
Ryan Gamble

So yes, with most of our young guns out injured for the season, the team we fielded still had a good blend of youth and experience.

edit: beaten again -.-

Our average age on Fri night was 26 yrs and 2 months.

Adelaide's was 24 yrs and 2 months.

We had 7 players under the age of 25 playing.

David Armitage
Ryan Gamble
Jarryn Geary
Sam Gilbert
Ben McEvoy
Dean Polo
Jack Steven

Jimmy Gwilt also would have made the cut, he and Gilbo are both 24 yrs 11 mths.

Armitage was exeptionally hard, and a real key to us playing so well. Other guys whose hardness was crucial included Jones (phenomenal game, I thought), Polo and McEvoy, who is unbelievably good at ground level. The number of handball chains he gets involved in is incredible.

Geary 9 touches and 2 tackles in the last was a great job, but he didn't kick a goal. I don't think that's an aberration - he's not a goal kicker, and tf I don't think he's the ideal sub. Nevertheless, really good effort by him.

Kosi put in another solid game - 3 contested marks were particularly "pleasing".
