IIRC, Roach had only about 20 mins of game time last week. One of our quickest players!

And then Spud says after the game that they were too quick!!!

Go figure!

This Weeks Team:

B: Zantuck, Gaspar, Fiora
HB: Chaffey, Kellaway, Hartigan
C: Bowden, Johnson, Fleming
HF: Moore , Richardson, Pettifer
F: Rodan, Hall, Tivendale
FOLL: Ottens, Campbell, Krakouer
I/C: Hyde, Houlihan, Newman, Dragicevic
EMG: Tuck, Raines, Fletcher
IN: Gaspar, Campbell
OUT: Jackson (unavailable), Roach

Can't Believe Adam Houlihan is getting a game over the Young Tommy Roach, shocking!!!

In the light of the opportunity the club has in the next few games, to set up their youngsters for their future, its disappointing to see Houlihan and Gaspar playing. Campbell, I understand.

We have to be playing for draft picks, it just doesn't add up. It would never be admitted, but if it looks like crap, smells like crap, then it probably is Richmond. I was excited about seeing Tuck, Roach and perhaps even Raines or Gilmour have a crack this week, but it looks like I'll be entertained by the same old stooges that have sent our player payments sky rocketing and our ladder position to the schizenhaus!

If we win, I'll be both surprised and disappointed. I can't remember feeling like that about a Tiges victory before.

but according to some of you Gaspar wont be with us next year, then wouldnt we have to give him a chance to keep his spot which i believe is not in jeopardy

Exactly!!!!!

We need Gaspar to show his worth and make him worth something if we decide to trade him.

A couple of good games will mean a larger percentage of his salary his new club will pay (we will be paying him no matter what next year to some extent) and it will also help as far as what we get for him.

If he was put on the market now he wouldnt interest alot of clubs.

he would interest lots of clubs its only us who find nothing in him, he can stil be the champion he was and will still be

Point taken on Gaspar. I am just going on what we have seen from him this year, and I don't believe he has it in him to play anywhere near the best of his abilities this week. If he had some form and confidence, sure, put him in. I'm not comfortable with a half fit Gaspar playing for his livelihood ahead of a younger player. His trade value is irrelevant, unless you like the buy high and sell low theory, we'd be better off keeping him when you consider we'd, at best, pay half his salary at a new club, as well as the salary of a replacement.

If he turns it around and turns makes me look like a fool, then I'm happy. Personally, I wouldn't give him a game on this years form.

he did his knee about 1 year ago, he needs time to get over it and get used to playing with a bad knee

RE Gaspar

The demands he made on his contract are also something that hasnt sat well with alot of people. If you have somebody taking that money then it hurts you too much if they dont live up to it.

Wouldnt want to crucify anybody for not being a James Hird.

But hands off that type of money so we can get a pay structure that will allow us to get the talent from player one to player twenty two that we badly need.

Guys at the Kangaroos offered to return some of thier money. Colbert was one i believe. Thats a leader in a club, someone who looks at the bigger picture and genuinely can look at success over themselves.

Thats why I dont believe he would hold respect as a captain.

In reality, whether you reckon he's been playing like an old hack or not, right now would be a terrible time to trade the Gas, for a few reasons.

Firstly, being so soon after his knee op, and considering his inability to slip straight back into his excellent form of just fourteen months ago, his currency would be presently ridicuously low in comparison to his real worth. Hell, even his own supporters simply don't rate him at the minute (though whether that is due to their collective fickleness is possibly up for debate). We would be really struggling to get a reasonable recompense for his talents.

Secondly, even if Greg Miller were to miraculously come up with an improbably worthwhile trade, I'd imagine it would include the Tigers still paying a substantial proportion of his salary, despite him plying his trade elsewhere. That situation would be counter-productive ... short of a good player and having a fair chunk of our cap already spoken for.

Thirdly, that last point. We would be desperately short of decent tall backs. If somehow Gas could have a great pre-season and come back to some semblance of form (he was better than Scarlett just 18 months ago!), then that would be a great asset to our team 2005 and beyond. If not? Well, his contract will be up again for 2006, so we could ... er... renegotiate his worth when that time arrived.

The moral of all this ? Barring a miracle deal from Miller et. al., hang on to the Gas.
