This is probably not the thread to be talking about MSR's junk...
Sounds racist. ;)

"I was just looking for the first hateful thing I could say, ya know. I'm not really a racist."

Nah, not good enough. They're racists, as well as being the dickheads that you described them as.

If they weren't really racists - You know: A little too much to drink. Just having a little fun. Didn't mean it like that. Just because I say it doesn't mean I mean it. etc etc

Nah, they're racists................and dickheads. Sort of goes hand in hand, doesn't it?

All fine...I'm not trying to create potential excuses for these guys in any way, and I hope they get everything coming to them. Just reckon racism is a pretty complex topic, and reflecting back on the work I have avoided today, probably not one for BF.

You're good Kramer, but the sooner we don't bend to excuses, the sooner our children won't even know what it means to be racist.

There is a difference in saying something and believing what you say albeit that may be of little comfort to the recipient - which is exactly why those people get banned.

Exactly.

It's as credible as "you know I'd never hurt her, I just lost control for a second. I'm not one of those guys that hits their wife though."

There's no place for racism in sport and they should make an example of these dickheads. (Can't believe the swear filter doesn't pick up dickhead)

May not have expressed myself clearly. Making no allowances for these guys whatsoever. Racism can never be excused, but it can be ingrained, passive, or the reflex comment of a dolt. Lance summed up about 15 of my posts in one line above.

You're saying I'm good whilst slipping in references to 'our children' . Like sitting at the feet of a master...

Everyone has a view on these matters and by far most people now, would sooner see no room for racism expect maybe an excuse for the odd mistake all of us can make
On the bigger picture see of things, if it takes a generation or two of an affront to our liberties (?), then so be it.

Anyway, I'm glad that Collingwood are seen to want to do something about it but I'm also confident that most clubs would take up the same approach.
Every little bit adds to the weight of us all comprehending that racism isn't something we should excuse, even if it is in............jest.

Take a look at little kids in the playground. Colour is never an issue and neither is sex. To a little kid... another little kid is just another little kid to play with. Racism and sexist attitudes are things that are learnt from their parents and grandparents as they get older.

You will never be able to remove them from the environment a kid grows up with unless you want to start taking kids away from their parents when they are babies.

Take a look at my old man. Drove through Springvale with him once and he said to me with a snarl, "Look at all these Vietnamese. They all stink"

He's lucky I didn't push him out of the car there and then. Never forgave him for that and had never really looked at him the same way after.

Though humans are instinctively tribal.

Following a football team is a manifestation of that instinct.

At times it was like there were two of him out there.
Not wrong. On a cooler day, he lead from the front and really stood out.

Players will wear a different sort of jumper according to position, with defenders and some midfielders wearing a tight-fitting jumper with little give in the fabric to make it harder for them to be grabbed and tackled.
Other players, such as forwards, will wear jumpers with more stretch in them so that if grabbed in a marking contest the material will give and the player will not be restricted.

So if you want a defender and forward to switch places, they have to run to the bench and fish out their alternate stretchy/non stretch guernsey?

Also seems a little bit of a cynical exercise for forwards. Doesn't hurt that any slight tug on a guernsey is emphasised. On the same note, if you get a grip on a defender as he tries to run away, he should recoil faster than a cobra and almost get yanked off his feet. Most tackles should be around the torso rather than jumper grabs (you listening Carlton).
