Bishop's gold pass is still valid for 2006 so no way he will be "ommitted".

Walsh was one of our better players Saturday night (in fact he was given third and sixth best on the club website) so he is unlikely to be dropped.

BEST – Kangaroos: Simpson, Harris, Harvey, Wells, Rawlings, Archer, Brown., Grant
Port Adelaide: K.Cornes, S.Burgoyne, Walsh, P.Burgoyne, Lade, Walsh, C. Cornes.

How Peter "Brain Fade" Burgoyne got in there is a mystery

Admittedly he didn't really get into the game on Saturday night but does that warrant him being dropped?

Maybe. Maybe not. I think he's finished, that's my opinion. I hope he proves me wrong.

One bad game and he's finished. Big call.
I wouldn't mind seeing him rested A LOT this year. We need to get the back line of the future in place as soon as possible.

I would rest Wangas in the SANFL until he clearly has fitness and form on his side. This is what should always be done with underdone players who might be a liability, however legendary or brilliant their reputations might be.
I am going to give Dewy one more go at this after much deliberation, as I think he should be played as close to our goal as possible. I would prefer Motlop's pace near the midfield and Dew's goalsmarts are still valuable, although he needs to clearly show more desperation.

My side:

HB:....Wilson.....Chad.......Symes

C:.....Motlop......Shaun Burgoyne.......Pearce

HF:......Cassisi.......White.......Ebert

FF:......Willits.......Lade.......Mahoney

R: Brogan.......Kane.....Peter Burgoyne

Int: Thomson.....Lonie....Salopek.....Dew

Ins: Symes, Willits, Lonie
Outs: Wangas, Chaplin, Pettigrew

I just don't know what role the Grew is playing for us in Tredrea's absence. With Warren around to command opposition defenders to him, I think Michael can roam freely a bit more, but he had such little impact last week and although we all want him to play in Bish's spot, truth is when he has been trialled there (against Welsh and N. Brown last year and Harding in round 1) he has looked very panicky when the ball comes in one-on-one.

Hmm...OK.

I am going to give Dewy one more go

Huh? But you just said....

I hope but doubt Willits will come in, but good side. Swap Ebert and Pearce.

Huh? But you just said....

Porthos, I know it's almost contradictory, but here is how I see it.

Wangas does not look right. In his last year, Hardwick was played in the SANFL and came into the side mid-year when his touch and fitness were on the improve. Wangas' season can be valuable to us but he clearly needs 2-3 weeks IMO to freshen up.

Dew has always been the most underachieving player in our side. I have argued for a long time that he isn't a midfielder's ****hole. He doesn't win clearances, doesn't run with the ball, doesn't win his own ball, doesn't accumulate possessions. Lately when he gets it in the middle, the crowd yell for him to kick long and he looks sideways and chips it to a teammate on the wing. I still believe that close to goal he poses a problem for opponents. He obviously needs to attack contests better, but at Ladey's feet Dewy could still be a threat. He is better in tight situations than most because he does get the ball onto boot quickly. I'd like to see him used close to goal for this coming game.
Plus I just don't know how we would use Pettigrew against the Swans.

F.....Mahoney..Chad......Lade
HF....Ebert....White.....K.Cornes
C.....Peter....Motlop....Pearce
HB....Cassisi..Willits...Symes
B.....Wilson...Wakelin...Walsh
Ruck: Brogan, Thomson, S. Burgoyne
Interchange: Bishop, Wanganeen, Salopek, Pettigrew

OUT: Dew, Chaplin
IN: Willits, Symes
Considering Deluca in for Grew too.

Chad up forward lets us bomb long, as he's still our best contested mark in small spaces.

Wakelin runs with Barry Hall, Willits main job is to practice firing Hall up, cutting in front and generally being a ********. Primus can educate him on how to get Hall fired up, what to say, etc. Hall usually gets two men anyway, so this is a good intro for Bruce.

K. Cornes at half-forward until he starts being damaging with disposal. He will want to get the ball, so hopefully he can get some perspective in what half-forwards wants from their midfield.

Wilson to stay in defence all game, none of this midfield bull********. If he snots Nick Davis, all the better.

Motlop in the middle for two reasons. One is physicality, two is to be a dummy receiver as the Port rucks will be instructed to tap to Thomson every time until Sydney figure this out. Rotate him with Mahoney a bit, Mahns deserves a bit of a run in the middle.

Bishop on the bench as a stepping stone...either on the way back into the first 18, or out of the first 22.

Wanganeen to be the bench player he's supposed to be. Tell him to play sweeper in defence for Willits/Wakelin to dish off to (taking Bishop's role), and possibly a run up forward when we're doing ok in the middle.

My side:

F- Motlop/ Lade/ Mahoney

C- Dew/ P. Burgoyne/ Cassisi
HB- Lonie/ C. Cornes/ Symes
B- Wilson/ Wakelin/ Walsh
R- Brogan/ K. Cornes/ S. Burgoyne

Int- Wanganeen/ Salopek/ Ebert/ Thomson

Emergencies- Pettigrew/ Thurstans/ Bishop

In- Tredrea (if healthy), Symes, Lonie
Out- Bishop, Pettigrew, Chaplin (injured)

While the bit about dropping Wangas made sense, I still don't see how keeping Dew in makes sense. Lonie was BOG for North on the weekend, give him a run. Put in Symes. Hell, give Ezard a run!

Dew might be damaging close to goal when Tredrea is there, but I'm pretty sure Motlop and Pearce are just as good at copping a handpass from the big bloke and slotting it on the run.

Whats more, dropping Wangas and keeping Dew in would send entirely the wrong message to the playing group; that its better to not work hard than to work hard and be seen to be unfit?

F Motlop White Lade

Emergencies Salopek Surjan DeLuca

In - Thurstans Symes Willits
Out - Bishop Chaplin Salopek

Outs : Dew, Chaplin (inj.)
Ins : Symes, Willits (however in reality will be Thurstans)

My side:

FB : Walsh Wakelin Willits
1R : Brogan K. Cornes P. Burgoyne

Chad, unfortunately back to CHB till Chaplin returns. Willits in as the third tall down back. Bishop to the bench - ready to go out of the side altogether once Chappy returns.
Junior into the centre, along with Salopek - none of this HBF stuff.
Pettigrew up forward. We need to play three tall forwards to share the load.

Different, but I like it. The only part I disagree with is having Mahoney switching with Motlop. Maybe have Motlop switching with Ebert.

I won't bother getting my hopes up, and stick to the only change to be Thurstans in for Chaplin. Choco won't drop Dew or rest Wanganeen. Toby will probably slot straight in CHB. Chad will stay midfield because he lead the clearances for us on Saturday.

Within that context, a couple of things I'd like to see are Motlop in the midfield - maybe not so much running needed at the SCG ... and play Pettigrew down back on O'Loughlin. He might get schooled, but I guess that's how he'll learn. And when Grew gets the ball and sees an opening he runs like a scalded cat.

If Choco's true to his word, Salopek, Ebert and Thomson will all get gametime. Let's hope it's significant.

My team:

F D.Motlop D.White G.Wanganeen

HF J.Mahoney M.Pettigrew N.Lonie

C B.Ebert A.Thomson D.Cassisi

HB S.Burgoyne C.Cornes B.Symes

B M.Bishop D.Wakelin M.Wilson

F D.Brogan K.Cornes P.Burgoyne

I S.Salopek B.Pearce P.Walsh B.Lade

In: Symes, Lonie,
Out: Dew, (general soreness), Chaplin (injured)
Emergency: Willits, Thurstans, & a running player

Plenty of runners on the bench. Pettigrew would be used as centre half forward for the opening bounces then White could come out to centre half forward. Ebert changing with Pearce on the wing so we have got plenty of pace, Lonie could also change with Cassisi if needed.
Plenty of run & creativity in the backline & you could also drop Gav back there if needed to play a sweeping role.
The reason i say Pettigrew as centre half forward is that the SCG is a very small ground so your centre half forward often gets the ball kicked over his head & Pettigrew can take a good mark & is very mobile.
Most important is to use the bench regularly so that we can keep fresh legs on the ground particularly in the centre square. :thumbsu:

Am i the only person who thinks Chad should be elft at CHB?

2004 we had awesome run from back there, with chad and junior, it also left wakes to just play the stopping job and bishop got the third tall if they have one, plus wanganeen sweeping, walshy running it out and chaplin back to help chad out if there CHF starts to get some form.

We don't need chad up forward, nor do we need him in the middle with all our youngsters coming through, slot him in at CHB and let him do his thing.

I find with msot players given the free roam license they tend to drift in and out of games and spend patches where they just kind of follow the ball but dont have an influence.
