:D

Just got back from the game, which was one of those where it is difficult to determine the Crows best. So I'll post my votes tomorrow after watching the replay. Johnson, Bode & Bickley were the best of the midfielders & Welshy the best of the forwards (good to see him start!) Defence lead by Hart, Smart & Bassett were all fantastic all night.

I need clarification as to Bode's eligibility in the rookie award, I never gave him a vote automatically thinking he was too old, he is not in Ant's list of eligible players on another thread but just had a look and he will be 23 this year, if he is eligible then I will edit my votes. We had it as under 23 did we not?I think we also settled on under 25 games, Bode has played 32 so yes/no?

Well if the ages posted by K are correct (below), & Doughty & Gallagher are both 23, then we probably should make it 23 & under.

Angwin 20
Bode 23
Doughty 23
Finnin 18
Gallagher 23
Handby 19
Hentschel 20
Johncock 20
Ladhams 22
Massie 22
McGregor 21
Perrie 23
Reilly 19
Schell 22
Schuback 19
Shir 21
Shirley 22
Skipworth 19
Smith 19
Stenglein 22
Bock 19
Mattner 20
Rutten 19
Thomas 20

However, Bode played 29 games for Port, so he loses his eligibility on games, as does Massie with 43 games for Carlton. I gather both Stenglein & Perrie must also be in ineligible for playing more than 25 games ( Someone will probably confirm this as the AFC site is useless).

If they had yet to turn 23 then I put them on my list in the previous thread.

cheers

Well I hope so :) Doesn't hurt to double check them as you have done.

As for my votes, I too will watch the game again before submitting the all important 5,4,3,2,1 et al. ;) .

Tough game to pick.

BEST:

5 Votes - Bickley (Inspirational, put his body on the line all night and didn't waste a ball)

4 Votes - Bode (His in-and-under work was very good and with Bunji down added the spark around the centre and half forward lines)

3 Votes - Burton (Kept presenting himself and was as good on the ground as in the air. Was responsible for many entries into the 50.)

2 Votes - Edwards (Keeps ketting better and better has great poise and balance)

1 Vote - Johnson (Another four quarter effort and confirming his place amongst the clubs elite group)

ROOKIE:

3 Votes - Doughty (Looks the part and showing he really wants to keep his place on the team)

2 Votes - Johncock (didn't get much game time but for a kid has got balls of steel and skills to match)

1 Votes - Schell (By default gets a vote but show some pretty good ball scense and found some space at times)

TEAM MAN:

3 Votes - Smart (Could have made the best players but played one of the tightest games he's played for a while)

2 Votes - Bickley (If he was captain it would have been a great captains game)

1 Vote - Stenglein (Must be difficult for a young kid to sacrifice his game most weeks for the good of the club but he always does his job well)

Sorry to Welsh, Stevens, Basset and Goodwin for leaving them out. Also good to see Biglands continue on from last week. Special mention to Fitzgerald who would have made my best if he'd kicked straighter.

Fairly average game. First half was quite good - but the kicking for goal was horrible. Gave the Cats a chance to get back into the game in the second half. Need to work on that this week and also take it out of second gear to keep the wiining streak going for the rest of the month.

I found the vote quite hard this time as there were no real standouts with an even team performance.

Best on Ground
5. Bode (great to see him bounce back from last week with a great game - adds to our midfield depth).
4. Johnson (another great 4 quarter effort & 3 goals - all class).
3. Hart (Slaughtered Graham & gave great rebound out of the backline - mr reliable).
2. Welsh (good to see him start & rewarded Ayres with important goals & forward pressure with his tackling - much better as a floating forward option).
1. Bickley (courageous effort typified by his recovery after a hard knock).

Best Team Man
3. Ben Hart (controlled the backline & made Graham a non-event)
2. Mark Stevens (just missed out on my BOG votes because he wasted a few shots at goal, but competed very well at CHF).
1. Nigel Smart (blanketed Kingsley, Ablett & other Geelong forwards - looks like he is in vintage form). PS Smart now has played on both Ablett Snr & Jnr.

Best Rookie
3. Doughty (another great performance & his goal kicking on the run is very reliable).
2. Johncock (played well when he came on, but limited opportunities).
1 Schell (by default as he had a quiet game - needs to improve his goal kicking & present himself more)/

We weren't totally convincing, especially in the 3rd quarter when we let the Cats back into the game. However, a wins a win and there's plenty of weeks left until the finals that we can improve in.

I didn't think he was a rookie!

Stevo for Club Champion in 2002

I didn't think he counted as a rookie cause he played last year and is 23 years old! He did play really well and he is going to be a much better player for us this year than in the past. I hope he keeps the good work up!

It was a win by the boys with McLeod and Goodwin way down on their best form.

kicking for goal was awful

Our commitment for the most part was fantastic though. Bickley STevens and Stenglein all took really courageous marks

Bickley and Smart are playing great footy.

Hart and Basset were fantastic down back.

James Gallagher should come into the side though and hopefully Roo will be fit.

Skippy was best frot he Eagles yesterday so we have some solid pressure on the incumbents which is great

We MUST beat Sydney this week before we take on Essendon POrt and Richmond in some very tough games.

I'm totally confused just who is and who isn't eligible for Rookie votes. I also think we should only have one vote for Best Team Man and one vote for best Rookie. Is it too late to change now?

I don't know if I can keep this up for the whole season. Half the time the guys I think are BOG when I'm at the actual game don't come off that well when watching the replay. And vice-versa.

I know what you mean Crow54. I do my votes before I've looked at the media voting or anyone elses votes and just try to go on what I saw. It is easy though to be influenced by some late brilliance in a game from a player that hasn't really contributed thoughout the whole game.

I used to sometimes pick the best 5 for a side up here in the local league. There were two of us and we had to have seperate votes in within 10 minutes of the end of the game for presentations. There' a lot of pressure particularly when there is money involved for the players.

I like the idea of 3,2,1 voting though because it allows for consistency and not just standouts.

I totally agree with CROW54

There are people voting for rookies just for the sake of giving a 1.
