OK, we've got enough threads about today's shocker, time to look ahead to next week against the Blues. How do you hope the team lines up for next week? My team would look something like this:

B: J.Hunt Scarlett Egan
HB: Milburn Harley Wojcinski
C: Selwood Bartel Enright
HF: Chapman Mooney Mackie
F: N.Ablett Ottens Stokes (or Djerrkura if Stokes is still ineligible via suspension)
Foll: King Corey G.Ablett
Int: Ling D.Johnson (if fit, apparently injured his shoulder, if not bring S.Hunt in) Prismall Rooke

In: King, Djerrkura/Stokes, Rooke, S.Hunt
Out: Blake, Gardiner, D.Johnson, Tenace

I'd rotate Ottens between FF and ruck, and King between ruck and bench. When Ottens is in the ruck I'd have Nathan at FF and keep him one out with a crumber at his feet, either Chappy, Gazza jnr or Stokes/Djerrkura. Chapman, Stokes/Djerrkura, Gazza and Bartel I'd rotate between the midfield and forward line. If Bartel gets tagged heavily, I would try to isolate him in the forward line, and use his strong contested marking to our advantage.

Down back I would keep Scarlett on Fev, and Harley on Whitnall as Whitnall is a pretty smart footballer and might catch Egan out a bit with his propensity to find space in the forward line. I'd rotate Wojack, J.Hunt, Enright and Selwood between the midfield and back line to capitalise on Wojack's ability to break the lines and J.Hunt's ability to kick over a line, especially if Carlton flood back. Milburn could even push forward and pinch hit in the forward line if the chance presents itself.

If I was going to tag anyone, I'd put Ling on Stevens and maybe Rooke on Murphy, although Rooke could swap with Mackie and be utilised as a defensive forward and try to minimise run out of our forwardline with strong tackling. Gazza, Chappy and Stokes/Djerrkura would also be useful in this regard.

All i want to see in match ups is Selwood going head-to-head with Gibbs. I think we shpuld abck most of our players to win. Maybe Stevens if we really want to tag someone. Also we need to djerrkura in the forward 50 crumbing. I thought we really missed that today. Also King for Blake.

Is Kingy due back from his injury for next weeks game?
Djerrkura wont play against Carlton if he didn't play in the VFL this week I would assume.
Gardiner must be dropped and never to play an AFL game again.
Selwood will play again next week, he was played out of position today. He looked a bit lost floating at half forward.
Rooke to play a game in the VFL next week and return for Round 3.

IN: King
OUT: Gardiner

Two players that must be dropped (forever, not just this week)......

OUT: Blake, Gardiner

Hopefully never to return. Rubbish at AFL level both of them.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to seeing Selwood debut, but when he was put in the forward line I knew he wasn't going to have a huge impact. He plays his best footy in the midfield and defense. I also noticed that once he was put on the wing he started to get his hands on it, and he didn't really waste a disposal.
Selwood in the forward, is this another one of Bomber's stupid experiments?

Outs: Poor decision making
Ins: Scarlett and Harley Circa 2004

:thumbsu: But I'll go further than that and include Kelly, Ling and a half a dozen other players circa 2004, and also Ottens circa 2001.

Round 2: Geelong Vs Carlton @ Telstra Dome

Massive game already. Carlton are flying, Geelong need to win. All hell will break loose if Geelong drop this game.

Thoughts? Match-ups? Predictions?

Re: Round 2: Geelong Vs Carlton @ Telstra Dome

we'll win by a lazy 30 points, and look ok in parts.

Ablett, Chapman, Bartel and Corey to win the midfield battle.

Wojak to be a standout

Mooney to kick 4, N Ablett 2 and Ottens 2.

matchups

Ling vs Stevens/Murphy
Mooney vs O'Hailpen
Ablett vs Walker
Egan vs Kennedy
Scarlett vs Fev (who'll kick 5)
Bartel vs Scotland
N Ablett vs Whitnall.

Re: Round 2: Geelong Vs Carlton @ Telstra Dome

Fev has a good record on Scarlett, it is a worry!

The Fev vs Scarlett matchup is the best of the lot. Fevola does have a good record on him, but so does Scarlett on Fevola. They're pretty evenly matched - but you'd have to keep Scarlett on him all game, who else do you have? He is your best option, take him out and instead of a 1 or 2 goal burst it will be a 4 or 5 burst. Fevola can go missing fro an entire quarter than rip a game apart with 4 quick ones, Scarlett will not only need to be close checking but he will need help too. Even if Fev has the upper hand, keep him on Fev!

IMO Fev's not in form because he has been terribly inaccurate, on TD that might be different. He likes that ground, and wind is not a factor so I'm expecting better kicking from him.

Out: Gardiner, Tenace, Harley

In: Djkuerra, Varcoe, S.Hunt

Just wondering now with harley out. Scarlet will take Fev. But who will take fisher, Whitnall, Kennedy, Waite( if he pushes foraward). All these players are very damaging and i'm just thinking who would geelong use?

heard on the news that Whitnall is in serious doubt to come up for the Weekend

Hopefully the ball won't get down there so we won't have to worry. :p But seriously, I'd see our defensive matchups as follows:

Egan - Whitnall
S.Hunt - Fisher
Milburn - Waite/Kennedy

I don't know if all four will play forward, as if they do the Carlton forwardline will be a little top heavy IMO.

Carlton flying ???

Carlton were lucky to beat Richmond, a team we comprehensively beat a few weeks back.

I'd suggest that we will take care of Carlton, whomever they put on the park. However I totally agree that this is a must win, without it games later on the road become more important.

I wouldn't suggest Carlton is flying, they played no-one in the pre-season cup, and were behind by a good margin against the Tigers. They just were lucky they came home with a wet sail and the Tigers are really that bad.

Mooney will smash the Irishman, he is good but not in Mooney's league especially when he just plays the game. Ling will shut down Stevens, Bartel will do the same to Scotland.

The only possible winners out of this lot for the Blues is Witnall and Fevola. Scarlett is struggling, really looked terrible during the last couple of games in the NAB cup, also was average vs. the Dogs.

Witnall is up in the air, I think he has a slight edge, but I really hope that Nathan has built up some confidence after last week. He looked really good in spots, which is a real bonus.

So I think we will post a W here, and by a little margin like 30-40pts.

Whitnall out of form apparently. Blues supporters were discussing dropping him, not that this would happen.
