Autopsy Round 23 vs Essendon

Coaching aside for a moment, the list has so much dead wood.

Hombsch is cooked, Pittard still makes the same mistakes as he did in his first season, Neade is useless and Ebert only plays well when he is trying to get a new contract.

I didn't think we would have missed Hartlett as much as we did after he did his knee.

Next season could be even worse if the club doesn't make tough calls but will there be tough calls made regarding players in the offseason? Probably not.

Will the leadership group change? Not likely.

Rinse, repeat and get ready for another unsuccessful year next season.

I know talking about effort on here is unpopular, but the effort by plenty of our players especially early on was terrible and borderline forgivable. Some of our midfielders and “leaders” were poor.

Westhoff should hold his head high and I hope he gets rewarded with a B&F and AA squad at least.

Framptom showed something up forward and hopefully can develop from there. Clearly where he’s most comfortable.

First quarters in our last three outings against Essendon

1.1 v 6.4
2.2 v 5.2
1.3 v 7.6

4 goals to 18 in 3 first quarters over the last two years against Essendon. Horrific.

Oh well at least all the players were making the right disappointed faces whrn they came off and im sure they'll come out soon and say they've made some preseason changes and are training the house down etc etc

We genuinely have the worst game plan / style in the AFL.

Surely our old Chinese mate has a bit of coin to splash on paying out Hinkley's contract

Its because they are quick and skilled and we cant turn their games into shitty bass driven slopfests. Our massively overrated defensive unit gets exposed because instead of playing proper solid accountable footy they try to be clever with horrible march ups lead by chief arm waver.

we'd be dangerous if we could ever win a one on one
Essendon seemed far faster and far stronger.
either the players aren't trying, or our fitness is all kinds of ****** up

I assume we are still trying the endurance game, when it has moved on to one of lines like ice hockey to preserve players all game.

Yeah you are right, we only had one real runner and we were pushed off the ball far too often. Ollie Wines, Brad Ebert, Sam Powell-Pepper, Travis Boak, Tom Rockliff are collectively too slow. We lack pace and tonight it really showed. The only real runner we have is Jarred Polec and there is a good chance he will not be with us next year.

I think we badly need a couple of outside runners who can carry the ball through the mid field. Then again you need a game plan that takes advantage of runners and ball carriers and we do not have that either.

To be honest I am not sure where we go to from here as our game plan needs to be chucked out and a more attacking plan devised.

that's just because we can't deal with the 3 talls like Daniher, Stewart and Hooker forward...
oh wait...

This playing group has had the life strangled out of them. They don’t know how to play football anymore. Bassett brought the rot in, Hinkley bought in and ran with it.
We suck. We are ****** for many years to come.

I honestly don’t believe Basset is the problem. I would install him as our Head Coach In a pinch.

What I noticed tonight was the amount of kicks over the heads of our players, who were guarding space. That looked good. I’m sure it made a nice tableau for the official pics.

So predictable. Thank god, we brought in Jake Neade and kept in Sam Gray. I mean how bad would we have been this year if Frampton played when the latter was gifted most games, because he’s a flat track bully and the former any games, well for god ****ing knows why?

All tonight accomplished was reinforcing that despite a cluster**** game plan, we’d have made finals if our stubborn arse of a coach had played Frampton early and allowed us to keep our structure.

Thought Lienert played a pretty decent game. He was better than most of the other defenders. A good comeback after a clanger filled game last week. I like the fact he tries to play in front of his opponent where he can use his speed and long kick to advantage.

One positive out of a season with hardly any
