God we are short in the backs... even with Grimes. Actually short all over!
Deledio on Franklin???? I hope not...

Genuinly surprised!

I can see a close game despite the un even matchup for our defenders. Cotchin will get 30+ disposals with a 50%eff....deledio will shut down hodge, jack will get another 6 and jackson will get another BOG. Very winnable game, as all games are except vs collingwood.

I can't believe we're going to try and tackle Buddy and Roughy without a single key defender.

I think Grimes is in because he's earned it he's been in the best for the Burgers. Good to see they will give him a crack at it. Hope he's not too nervous & goes in with a nothing to lose attitude. Same or similar thing happend to Gasper when Thursty was coming up. It was his time to get an opportunity to develop. But I don't think he's really put his hand up (Thursty) with strong performances in the 2's has he??

With the inclusion of Grimes one thing is well and truly clear: Hardwick is unwaveringly working toward the future.
Thursfield could have come in and perhaps done a better job, but most likely isn't going to be a premiership backman.

I commend Hardwick for taking this approach. He said there will be no shortcuts and he isn't taking any, unlike other coaches in the past who would have taken the easy option.

Genuinely think this will still be a great game, despite your tall backs out and our wizard.

One bloke to seriously tag/try to nullify is Burgoyne. Something I don't think Adelaide/ Melbourne put much thought into, but he has been amazing in the first two weeks.

Matt White will wear him like a condom.

hmmm interesting team. Looks like either we are banking on the cool change bringing in the rain or we are going in with the mindset that we will outscore them. I know all the talk is about who is on Buddy etc, but hey dudes who are the dawks playing on JR and TY? I mean are they thinking Gibson on JR? I ****ing hope so...JR will tear him a new one. Whoever it is i hold no fear about JR getting a bag. Then they have to counter TY who is steadily causing head aches with his height. So get with it and get off the inferiority complex dudes. ;)

Assuming TY is Tyrone Vickery, I would say that Gilham will go to him and young Ben Stratton (RS nominee, best pure defender we've had since T. Croad) will get the big job on the better Riewoldt.

Shaping as a cracking, end-to-end match.

Bazzar, even when Burger shoots off to FF? He has kicked 7, 8 goals so far this year.

Updated forecast

Min 17 Max 27 Rain developing.

Above the G

Mostly sunny morning. Scattered showers in the early afternoon, increasing to rain during the afternoon, easing to isolated showers by early evening. Winds north to northwesterly averaging 20 to 35 km/h tending cooler westerly up to 25 km/h during the afternoon.

Pretty ridiculous going in with Astbury and Grimes as our tall defenders. Must say I'm genuinely pissed off with team selection for the first time this year. Hardwick said after and during trade week that Thursty was a required player and ahead of a few other defenders. Doesn't quite add up. Hale, Roughead and Franklin vs a second game second year player and a raw second year CHB who hasn't been great playing man on man so far...

Stupid just going in with Grimes and Astbury. Both are 20 and are going to take on Roughead and Buddy? I can't understand why Thursty doesn't get a game. I understand he provides no run but IMO he is our best defensive minded defender. Especially in this game where we are sterched for key backs.
Don't get me wrong, I really hope Astbury and Grimes step up and do great jobs on Buddy and Roughead but if they don't, whats plan B? Throw Jack back there?
Even if we are going in with the theory we will outscore them, its still illogical to go in with just 2 key backs.

Not sure what the issue is with not playing Thursfield, Hardwick said from day one it's all about getting games into the younger players and so be it against quality opposition. Fact is Franklin and Roughy would tear any defensive duo apart on their day so playing Thursfield will only limit the damage if they have a night out.

IMO it's positive thinking backing our mids and forwards to get the job done, after all we keep hearing about our midfield being so dangerous and they outplayed the Hawks mids big time last year. So lets see them control this game and give our forward line enough ball who with all due respect to the Hawks backline should create as much havoc at our end of the ground.

This. I dont rate thursty. and would much prefer to play our young guys over him. the team looks fast and it looks like we will be faster rebounding out of defene. jack will kick 6. vicks ill get 3. the mids chip in, kingy chips in and morton chips in. we CAN easil kick a winning score against them.
if we win, jolly good. if we loose. at least we can see what we need to improve on. how grimes plays etc. :thumbsu:

Thats right. And the recent thread Winning v Development, people should remember the vast majority went with Development. Cant have it both ways.

I would rather the strongest team and win (Thursty in) but im still very happy Grimes is in because i rate him as a future gun key defender. Hope he stays all year except for the inevitable "Leg" later in the year.
