Round 8... Carlton vs Collingwood changes

Far out... they changed practically one third of their side...
Got a feeling Ratts will throw Austin back and put Waite up forward, or maybe even throwing Austin forward for a short period of time - he's proven he can do it in the VFL.
Would prefer one of them at CHF, and put Chief on a flank. Browne would have to be feeling a little stiff, he's been listed as an emergency for about the last month.
Good to see Hammer still in the side, and Robbo earning back his place. Cloke needed to be dropped, was in shocking form and needs a run in the 2's.
Hopefully the Blues can get up:D.

Someone suggested last week we were too tall. (with Hampson and Austin named.) This restores the balance.

There's a message in the emergencies. Setanta wasn't named in yesterday's squad of 25. I doubt he'll play but still... Thinking back to last week, the match committee 'flipped a coin' with regards which of Cloke and O’hAilpin to drop after dismal efforts against Hawthorn. Seems Setanta did enough in last week's ABC1 game...

So this week we can't an extra tall if the ruckwork seems too much. This allows Hampson the freedom to develop with confidence - that he won't be benched in favour of Cloke.

The gaping hole in our forward structure provides interesting possibilities. Though it all depends on Fev! If he plays like last week, then Jarrad Waite must be swung forward. If Fev kicks his usual bag, I'd like to see Austin be given the opportunity. We know what Waite is capable of but he's carved a niche across half back. Austin could be a forward target if we have the patience. (Kreuzer too, but he's needed in the ruck!)

I have a quiet confidence that things are turning the corner. We've tried a number of players and have a few more to come back. The last 2 weeks we've given Bentley, Setanta and Cloke enough rope to hang themselves. Houlihan has some work to do, Wiggins is on notice. Garlett and Jacobs will come back stronger later in the year. But finally we've shown the guts to play the kids in Hampson and Austin. We're not a finals side yet but if these 2 stay in the team, they finish the year with 20+ career games and improved depth to make an assault on the finals.

The selections have been bold and I hope we repay the faith as supporters with patience. We're working out who can play and who can't. Hartlett and Fisher won't be given games for short term gain - Hampson and Austin are the future, so this week allows them to step up against a wounded Collingwood.

This is a very losable game as we haven't gone the safe options. I can't understand the hysteria over our losses lately. Someone bought into the hype. :( We're a 11th finishing side who happened to play Richmond and Brisbane in the first two weeks. Now of course we have every chance of making the 8 but this will take time - there is no instant success. Let's have a bit of calm and vision please!

Good depth in the ruck and midfield with Robinson and Hampson on the bench.

The versatile Austin is a plus if we have to play Waite forward and Bower struggles with Reid.

Or they send Brown forward.

Wood v Hampson will be a interesting match up after Wayne Hughes watched Hammer beat the then Lion in the QFL in 2006. I hope Hampson repays our faith and plays a good game in the ruck so we can play Kreuzer forward late in each quarter. Hammer would have learnt a bit from watching a gun tap ruckman up close last week.

We can shuffle Russell onto Shaw after Grigg did a job on the Magpie last year. Though I think Robinson will most likely be used in that role this week and be given a defensive job.

Simpson on Sidebottom just because they look alike.

Simpson has the pace to run with Sidebottom who ran out his first game well, but our Rusty might run to Collingwood's Rusty in a negating role.

Should make his critics happy. :thumbsu:

I'd relish a contest with Addzy coming at Pendlebury at 100 miles per hour...

Cox could run with Scotland, but Cook easily get that job on one of our outside midfielders. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cox run to Gibbs who is a taller mid who can go forward and kick goals.

I think Gibbs would be too slippery for Cox.

:o

I recall Blackwell holding his feet in a contest against Cox and Goldsack two years and setting up a goal by breaking their tackles.

I think Fev will have a harder game against Presti than O'Brien, but will still kick four to five.

Loves the G. :thumbsu:

Hopefully Yarran turns it on in front of a big crowd and exploits their lack of pace down back. Yarran to do an impersonation of Dale Thomas on the G and kick two or three from out wide. :thumbsu:

Waite to be the difference as a forward.

Blues by 18 points.
