Round ball code talk

Saw this after the Brazil game. Portuguese goalie almost cost them the game in the dying minute. Get better view from 45 second mark.

How come this isn't off side? off side doesn't apply if you are forward of the keeper?

SBS do a good montague of each days play from the 3 or 4 games played that day.

Not offside because it isn’t one of his teammates playing the ball to him. The goalkeeper playing the ball puts the opposition player onside.

Pretty poor awareness by the Portuguese goalie there.

It’s only offside if your team has the ball. When the opposition has it, you are always onside.

Its not just the ban on beer and alcohol at this WC that's different but the beauties that show up to watch the WC, to get noticed to try and win more modelling contracts and social media followers, or those who are just very attractive flaunt it a bit and rock up to watch the game.

Croatian super fan and beauty Ivana Knoll has flaunted it at the previous 2 WC's has managed to do it again, just a lot less skin.

A woman dubbed the “World Cup’s hottest fan” dared to risk breaking Qatar’s modesty laws with a very racy outfit to support her team. Croatian beauty Ivana Knoll donned a plunging red and white checkerboard dress in honour of her country’s coat of arms.

The 30-year-old supporter snubbed strict warnings to keep outfits conservative despite the soaring temperatures. Ivana uploaded two snaps to Instagram flaunting her curves and her country’s colours to rally Croatia football fans ahead of the game.

She even boldly tagged FIFA - who have reiterated Qatar’s strict rules on clothing at the World Cup - in her posts on Wednesday. The model and influencer joked in the caption: “We didn’t play the best today, but it’s only a warm-up. Let’s go on Sunday!”

Although her clothing may have raised some eyebrows, Ivana didn’t spare a thought for the consequences she could face for daring to bare.

“Respect the country and our religion wtf ????” wrote one. “Shame on you respect others culture,” added another. “Please respect other countries religions and customs,” pleaded a third.

Although non-Qatari women don’t need to wear the abaya - the long, black robe - their tops must cover their midriff and shoulders, and skirts, dresses and trousers must cover the knees.

Women travelling in to the Arab nation are also banned from wearing any tight clothing, or flashing any cleavage. Partners of players were advised to wear a scarf around their necks in a bid to cover up their busts.

But Ivana seems to have found a loophole in the draconian rules - as her revealing outfit still covered her hair, shoulders and legs in compliance. The former Miss Croatia has so far avoided creating an international incident over her fashion choices with her sneaky strategy.

She appears to be pumped up for the occasion.

SBS are going flat out to be Soccer Bloody Soccer for this WC.

Each game gets a 3 hour time slot, so previews in the studio and FIFA produced stuff, then the game inc 1/2 time discussion, then a post game review and lots of bloody commercials over the 3 hours.

Currently their are 4 games a day, so 8.00pm SA time to 8.00am is covered.

Then they have a 30 minute foreign news service in English either DD Indian News or Deutsche Welle News, ( all their foreign language news services are on their new channel they launched in May Ch35 SBS Worldwatch) then from 8.30am to 5.30pm they have 3 of the 4 games, the whole 3 hour program from earlier in the morning gets repeated. 5.30pm to 6.00pm they show USA's ABC nightly news program.

Then the World Cup Daily show 6.00pm to 6.30pm which is a combo, reviews of the 4 games using younger journos and not all of the experts they use during the night, stuff done to tape about previous WCs, and reporters out an about with fans in Sydney ie at the Argentina or Brazil club in Sydney full of supporters and pieces from their guys on the ground in Qatar talking to different fans before and after different games.

Then 6.30 to 7pm they have a FIFA produced short review of last night's games and preview of the games we will see during the night and early morning. They do pieces on individual players as well as teams and promote whats happening around the games and in Qatar.

The SBS World News is on between 7 and 8pm. Then the merry go round starts up and repeats what I have written before this.

I don't remember SBS showing soccer 22 of the 24 hours during the group stage and all on the main channel since they got additional free to air channels in 2009. Since the extra channels they put most of the replays on the 2nd and 3rd channel and cut out most of the preview and review stuff and half time break and they were 2hr slots, not 3hr slots. Guess its cheaper to just hit the replay button rather than edit it down.

Bloody hell Iran just slammed a shot against the right post then 30 seconds later slammed it against the left post and then the rebound was drilled at the keeper and he fended it off.

Got a well deserved win with two in the last two mins. Goalie off with a hip and shoulder Byron would be proud of.

Bloody hell what a 2nd half in the Iran v Wales. Iran was better in the 2nd half but Wales didnt given in.

Welsh keeper got a red card for a dangerous high kick 20m out of the box and took out the Iranian with a bump rather than a kick. That was in the 88th minute after a VAR decision. Its 0-0.

Iran throw everything forward with 9 minutes of extra time and in the 9th minute Cheshmi hammers it low and hard from just behind the penalty D and thought it was the last kick of the game. Wales go forward and get it inside their box twice but Iran streams forward and in waves of 4 or 5 and Rezaeian scores his first goal in 6 years. 2-0 up and ref finally blows whistle after the kick off start.

Whats noticeable is the speed of some of these games and how late in the game they are still going flat out.

Maybe a November /December tournament when players are 3 months into a season and would be fit is better time to have a tournament rather than at the end of a long season.

When Iran didnt sing the national athem before the England game as part of the protests back home, then got thumped 2-6, I thought the Ayatollah is going to severely punish them when they get home.

After that win, I think they will get a reprieve.

The 6-2 were probably accidental, the capacity of England to pull it off notwithstanding.

The group is probably going back to normal. It should have been a three-way race for the 2nd spot. We will have it.

Let’s not forget that, if ENG beats USA, they clinch 1st place.

Iran v Wales was quality in the second half. Games like that one are what make the WC enjoyable. Great football from teams you would otherwise not pay any attention to.

I think the issue would be the amount of players missing due to injury. It was a week from the last prem league match till the first WC match. I think end of season WC tend to have a month break before the start giving players a chance to recover.

I like that Senegal appointed Snoop Dog as their national coach. They would be really chill, man.

Leagues are finishing later in May , and the Champions League is being pushed out, to end of May, so some players only get a 3 week break before WC starts around 7th June. Plus a lot of star players are playing around 55 games a season in Europe.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but June and July is pretty warm in some WC nations/cities, warmer than most days have been in Qatar in their late autumn, and I dont remember so many games early on in a WC being played at the speed and intensity so late in games as we have seen this WC.

Wales v Iran was insane. The double post strike then the goals deep deep into injury time. Sensational.

The Qatari mistake to allow Senegal to score is in line with all the issues raised about Qatar hosting this WC.

Not an overly exciting game so far.

Senegal is the only one of the 32 nations at WC who have not selected a player from their local league. Surprisingly only 6 play in France the rest all of Europe with the most in England.

Canada has 3 teams in the US dominated MLS and have selecred 10 players from those 3 teams and 1 who plays for a USA team. No player comes from.a Canadian only league.

Wales have/had teams in the EPL and Championship and 2 players play for Swansea and 2 for Cardiff City. No player comes from a Welsh only league team.

The other 29 nations have at least 1 player in their squad who plays in the local league. 13 other national leagues, whose team arent at the WC, have at least 1 player at the WC.
