Rule 19

I think the quieter ones in the crowd are embracing it too and without needing the screen to lead.

It would be good if the club could get those clappers into the hands of most of the kids (as weell as the oldies)

I thought Rule 19 was in good effect yesterday. Can't go on previous experiences because it's the only game i've been to this year, but it seemed good. I admit when i first heard about it i thought it was pretty lame, but on the day with people getting into it it's quite fun. Even when the Swans were kicking for goal up the other end, our end was still hitting the clappers and stomping the ground. Great noise overall yesterday. Topped by those 3 goals, VB's that drew us level, Porps' to put us ahead, and Macca's goal.

Oh, one more thing - ABC interviewed Adam Goodes in the rooms just after the game, and asked him about this.

He said that the noise while taking set shots doesn't bother tham at all (as you'd expect him to say), BUT he quite explicitly said every time they come here, they aim to make the crowd go deathly silent as we do, because they love when it happens.

Good enough reason to keep doing it.

By the way, the ABC boys were potting rule 19 and the crowd for booing + cheering wildly when Hall missed. Torney thought it was a bit artificial, Jamo was a bit on the fence but felt uneasy about it, and Peter Walsh called it downright appalling and unsportsmanlike - compared it to how he would never cross a room to say hello to John McEnroe because no matter how good a player he was, he always brought the game into disrepute.

What do they expect us to do?
"Oh bother, nevermind Mr. Hall, best of luck on your next shot on goal and may your next unwarranted punch on one of our players connect even more cleanly."

Rule 19 AND associated crowd noise awesome yesterday. Can't believe how many set shots missed by opposition over last 2 weeks. Even if just coincidence, fact won't escape Freo and other teams who come to OUR FORTRESS next, and it will be another little bit of doubt in their minds.
Pity that Hall was too thick - sorry, delete that - focused to notice and mucked up the stats, but never mind, he's about to finish with footy and get his brains even more bug***d with boxing as a result of this game.
The noise from the second minute of the 3rd just built and built. Incredible!
But despite being the most optimistic Crows fan ever, even I was wavering towards the end of the second. And as many have pointed out, the crowd was quiet. But I don't think it was as quiet as it usually is when we are down. I think, artificial and club contrived as it may have started out, the 19th Man concept and Rule 19 are actually going to change us - the crowd, I mean- for the better.

Rule 19 is not meant to, and really should not, have any effect at all on the top marksmen of the AFL unless they've been in a really bad head space for a few weeks. If you're a proper goal scoring full forward of the competition, a Hall, Fevola, Roughead, Lloyd, Brown, and you're letting the crowd upset your shooting then you don't deserve a pay cheque.

Who it is aimed at, and can effect, is everyone else taking a set shot at goal, players who need to concentrate and think a little bit more because set shots at goal are not their regular job.

In that sense, it was pretty much a roaring success, fairly certain they only got one set shot goal outside of Hall.
