Rule 19

Once North Melbourne looked like having a shot on goal the crowd started to make some noise and that sounded fantastic however maybe the next step the AFC could to try and implement with the rule 19 would be to have the entire crowed make that much noise whenever the opposition have the ball in their forward 50. That level of noise was awesome but it needs to be built upon.

I like this idea. We can once again make AAMI a feared fortress.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the game but the noise being made by supporters during an opposition set shot was amazing. Hopefully this good work can be maintained for the rest of the year.

I thought it was fun, anything that gets the crowd more involved is a good idea. Though I always try to put off the opposition when they are having a set shot anyway (as does must of the people around me), so I don't see much difference, except it now has some sort of label.

Whats everyone's thoughts on the rule 19 initiative that AFC have come up with (http://www.afc.com.au/tabid/4417/default.aspx?newsid=78525)? Personally, i think its a great way to get the less vocal crowd members involved. Those clappers that they had at Macca's record breaking game were quite good and they will be back on sunday, this could work if they hand out the clappers every home game!
Thoughts...

Just like umbrellas, those damn clapper things need to be banned from AAMI or any outside event for that matter.

Umbrella, yep understandable but why those clappers?

They make noise, do you dislike people around you screaming and clapping? How is that any different?
Are you opposed to making noise at the footy? So you’re suggesting a ‘quiet please’ policy?

They make noise and help build the atmosphere within a dull and boring place – they are good.

There's noise and there's noise though.

Go and watch any cricket game in India for evidence.

I think it's ridiculous to be honest. We went up to Adelaide to see the Crows against the Bulldogs a while ago (i live on the Yorke Peninsula so we don't see too many games) and the other clubs think it's a bit of a joke...

Rule 19 was great! The 19th man thing is a bit slow to take off, but ideas like this will give it firepower, and Footy Park will be a fortress again.

Sorry, YPCrowfreak69, but I don't quite get the YP excuse for missing games:confused:. We do the round trip from Whyalla for every home game. Easier now we're retired, but we still did it when we were both working a few years ago. Mostly a round trip on the same day!

Totally stoked by the noise at the NM match. If we build on that perhaps people will stop glaring at me when I yell - yes I have a loud voice, but I don't swear, and only abuse umpires. Good people behind, to the left and in front, but the seats on the right of us have someone different every week, it seems, and they nearly always cringe or glare. Never had anyone asking me to "tone it down", though.:D

Re: the clappers.
Love them. My Macca one went "straight to the poolroom", so really pleased to see them again this match. We got one each, and I think careful use of tape should keep them operational for most of the season.

That's a long way!

We're not that bigger supporters though, i just love watching and playing the game. We only actually went to that one because mum's a Dog's supporter. :p Even if i lived in Adelaide, i probably still wouldn't see that many games, not til i'm old enough to go by myself anyway. :(

There is one reason and one reason alone why this idea worked out good - because the crowd embraced it, unlike the original 19th man concept that was never embraced at all.

If it keeps going on I think it will be a fantastic thing for us. Pity we need to be encouraged to make noise but hey, if it works, brilliant :thumbsu: Hopefully it will soon become so ingrained that people will do it without even thinking.

 Ridiculous isn't it? Its a footy game!

Having been to a few crows games in Melbourne (though not for a while), I do agree that crows fans are louder at these games. I think i probably am too-probably because we know we're outnumbered, which makes it more fun and you feel like you're doing more to support the players when they're away from home as opposed to 30-35k people wearing red blue and gold.

The atmosphere is different at games where you can tell its on the line, for example a final (obviously), a big game against a bigger club, or after a down patch when theres an air of us getting back on track. Much more enjoyable these games. I also feel like the atmosphere is better when we've been playing a more attacking, attractive game style in the latter part of this year, but that may just be my perception.

The 19th man thing made me cringe at first, but its grown on me as I've told myself to lighten up :D Heck, I don't even mind those boundary riders who yell into the mikes before the game and during breaks anymore. Its the weekend, its the footy-just enjoy it :thumbsu:

And while we're at it, give out vuvuzelas as people walk into the stadium. Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, watch the Confederations Cup on SBS and you'll hear it ;)

by clappers do people mean those fan things they gave everyone explaining rule 19 on the back? they were good because i used it to dry my seat cuz it was wet. but please for the love of god get rid of the 19th man flag...and tili. last few weeks its been awesome this, awesome that, now shes expanded her vocabulary to include fantastic.

i was a bit skeptical on rule 19's effect but it seemed to work, hopefully against the swans they explain it again for those fair weather supporters who didn't want to brave the cold.

Its a little bit corny with whole score assist count, but who cares. I just enjoyed the amount of noise we made. I think I yelled out "C'mon people!! 19th man unite!" at some stage.. :o

Unfortunately we'll probably cop it from others (Namely the vics ) because its club organised. Personally I think they should just shove it where the sun don't shine :D

Some Victorian clubs do the same, for example Essendon have the air raid siren as Essendon enter the field, so if they complain then they're merely hypocrites.

Coincidentally, in the gameday thread after the match a Bombers fan was calling us the worst, scummiest set of supporters in the country for doing it.

He seemed like a bit of a limp wrist.

And just to prove my theory that the 19th flag raising is NOT done by club members, yesterday they had club doctor Brian Sando do the flag raising.

Well, Brucetiki, I have the defininitive answer to this debate for you. It IS members. (Mind you, I think the debate is long over, but I can't resist posting this).

This afternoon I got a call from dual premiership medalist and (ex-)all round hero CHF Matthew Robran who asked ME to be the member who raised the 19th Man flag. You are right about the suits, though. Ex Chairman Hammond is going to assist me. Because it's Country Round this week they looked for a country member, and picked me. - Don't bother with the "Country Member, yes I remember" bit 'cos it's already been done! - so if you watch the large, bald oldish man who raises the flag around 2.20pm on Saturday, that's Macjoe.

And I can tell you, this is exciting stuff. Although I loved Rule 19 last game, I always thought the 19th Man stuff a bit contrived, OK but pushing it a little. Suddenly I'm totally converted.
19th Man? Best idea the Crows ever had! Flag-raising: brilliant!

Nice one!
I sit in Bay 136, right next to the flag so I might actually pay attention to it this time. :D
I thought the flag raising 'ceremony' was pretty lame, particularly because there didn't really seem to be any regular supporters involved.

Actually I won't be there Saturday, but congrats on being able to raise the flag.

Which was my original argument in the first place. It appears that it's member and suit that raise the flag, but the ceremony generally seems to focus 95% on the suit with a token hello to the member.

Nice!

Do you have a yellow A-hat you could wear? Just to keep it old school.

Yeah, perhaps Macjoe can hijack the microphone and run away with it, so that the people that talk constantly over the PA before the game can't tell us to "get behind the boys" for the billionth time.

And what's the deal with the new mascot costume, bring back Camry!
Damn you Claude Crow, I don't want to applaud you, but your backflips are awesome. :D
