Rule 19

*cringe* :o

Only a matter of time before we've got some big wanking hovercraft, then.

Lots of us boo and jeer after a big namer player (Franklins, Fevolas) misses in front of goals anyways so this is more of an extension of that. It will try and get us involved in doing it for every person going for goal not just those players we love to hate.

More I think about it, more I like it. Like Dandy said, at least people wont be able to get upset because all we are doing is just following the rules :)

Oooh I thought they were giving out those plastic hand clapper things but from reading this thread its not them. What are they? I couldn't even figure out what to do with those Bunji banner things they gave out...

I can remember four, five years ago the crowd would always make a lot of racket when the opposition were lining up for goal, but it has faded out over the past few years.

Will be good to have it back again :thumbsu:

I've seen them at a few other sporting events, you fold it along the lines like a fan and then hit it against your hand.

These 19th man things probably sound like gimicks to most of the people on bigfooty, but the people here probably don't need to be told to support the club loudly.

I have noticed when they have promoted individual things like this the noise around me has increased, but not returned the next game. If this does work, hopefully they keep it up so it can take off.

The amount of times the people in front of my have had a go at me for being noisy when the opposition's taking a shot, or when we've copped a rough trot from the umpires, is appalling. Would be nice to be able to let them know I'm just following the rules.

Anything to get more noise to be honest. Those on here who I've met (and haven't forgotten me :D) would know I'm a pretty shy and reserved person. But the footy is the one place I feel comfortable being loud. It's good fun, but it sucks being just about the only person in my entire bay willing to use their voice.

On a related note, had a great time at Etihad on the weekend. Our Vic/travelling fans are great.

I hear ya Dandy...

Last home game i was at in a supporters capacity i got scowled at by a ~40yo bloke for yelling too loud (no swearing, no abuse btw, just very loud and passionate support). He said "just tone it down". I replied with a dumbfounded "mate i'm not swearing or abusing anyone and it's we're actually at the footy:confused:". His reply "just tone it down". Wasn't worth upsetting his sensibilities so i moved after the next goal. It's unbelievable really, i thought the club wanted supporters to make noise during the match. If you don't want to then stay home but barring that at least dont complain about others!

yep, i get 'white line fever' at the footy when i'm normally a well mannered bloke! Keep it up Dandy:thumbsu:

Finally, Vic games are so far superior in atmosphere it isn't funny. From a 1/4 of the supporters the pro-Crows noise is close the 3/4 of that of a full AAMI crowd. Disgrace really. If i had the time and money and had to choose between them, I'd attend all the away games and forget about home games.

100% agree. Even when we lose interstate I have more fun at that game than I do at most matches in Adelaide. In Melbourne supporters are so enthusiastic. Plus you can really dig in to the opposition supporters too haha.

This isn't really to do with the crowd noise... but I sit in bay 125 and I noticed this a couple weeks ago when Knights kicked that goal from outside 50 at the Northern end and it went across the goal line on the grass. Now sitting where I sit you would have to stand to actually see where the ball exactly crossed the line, but only a handful of people actually stood!!! I was standing and jumping and most people were still glued to their seats?

Surely watching your team score goals at the footy one of the main spectacles? I just don't get it.

I'd happily be apart of that - I'm already in Bay230 so I'm geographically in the middle of the ground anyway.

Same here. What I really hate is the club claims that it's supposed to be a member that raises the flag but it's always been celebrities/club ambassadors (Mark Holden one example) raising the flag :confused::confused:

Just makes the 19th Man a complete gimmick

A member has been part of the flag-raising every home game.

Really? All I've seen is celebrities and suits raising it.

Mind you, the bulk of Adelaide members would have more chance winning lotto than getting a chance to be a part of the pre-match entertainment anyway.

Having been to many games in Melbourne, I'd have to agree the atmosphere created by the small handful of Crows supporters is fantastic. On the other hand the times I've been back to Adelaide to see a game, I've found the atmosphere a little staid. It may have been the areas I was sitting, and a dearth of middle-aged, and elderly folks, but it just seemed to me to be less enthusiastic than for the away games in Melb.

Now living in the US, I'm not sure I like the 'clappers' being used, nor whether they'll have the desired effect (given the distance from the guy kicking for goal), that it does for the home NBA teams, where it is definitely used to great effect. There would be a 5% to 10% advantage I'd think to the home team on the free-throws....often enough to win the games.

The whole 19th man thing is pretty embarrassing - but they did get people a bit noiser when the opposition were having shots for goal - which was their intention I guess. Seemed to work pretty well and a lot of the younger kids around where I was seemed to enjoy it which was good.

They've done quite well in promoting that.

Those clapper things are pretty good for the kids and oldies who can't shout and scream as well.

Still the "WE NEED YOU 19 [Fade In/Fade Out]" and the raising of the 19 flag has to go. :o

absolutely completely agree. I only cringe at 3 things at the footy. The whole 19th man crap, any stuff up by us. Or the stupid fan 2 rows behind me that complains all day, then when the team does what she wants, she still complains.

Agree :thumbsu:. It is so embarrassing. Its almost like canned laughter on TV. Clap now. Boo now. Cheer now. The thing is though, it needs to be done because without it it like being at a sheffield shield match ;)

While we're getting rid of the raising of the flag can we please please please please get rid of Tilly? Either that or hand out free spikes to shove through my eardrums so i don't have to listen to her pre game drivel

Was actually really impressed with the amount of noise the crowd made yesterday when opposition players were lining up for goal, sounded like a 50,000 strong crowd as opposed to a 30,000 one, most noise I've heard at Footy Park in a while. aAlthough that may have something to do with the fact that we moved to the members a few years back, where the most noise you get out of 95% of those watching the game is a polite clap, ie there's usually a grand total of 4 or 5 people doing the "A-de-laide, clap, clap, clap" chant for the entire bay, following a goal etc.

so can we get a chant around the ground pre game against Sydney saying

"Get rid of Tilli" clap, clap, clap, clap, clap etc.

oh. I loved that kid at half time when he got interveiwed by Andrew Crowell

Andrew "Where are you from"
kid "Mt......Mt Gambier"
Andrew "Who drove"
kid "dad"
Andrew "Why not mum?"
kid "Dont trust her"

Whoever kept blowing the siren while she was prattling on yesterday - kudos! :thumbsu: :D

Similar story here. There are usually a few old bastards on the members wing that should be having a picnic in the botanical gardens rather than be at the footy. I usually just tell them to piss off when they say something to me, rather than move seats. It's the football FFS!

I thought it was brilliant! They haven't had much success with the campaign, but this plan definitely worked.
Will be interesting to see how it goes when the opposition has more than like 5 shots on goal, and if they start slotting them, but early signs are encouraging. It was loud as hell. Hard to say whether it had any effect on North's goalkicking, given the ridiculously tiny sample size and the conditions, but they didmiss a few fairly gettable set shots.

Good work from the club and the supporters. :thumbsu:

Watching on TV the noise of the crowd was very impressive yesterday particularly when the opposition is lining up for goal. And it worked! :D

Really not sure why you guys get 'embarrassed' by the 19th man stuff. Honestly, if it gets the crowd going who give a S#^t?

Well done to everyone that was there yesterday, i was very impressed.

I must say that i was skeptical pre-game about it, however, i would admit that it did work - there was definitely some good noise coming when the opposition were kicking for goals and even the clappers were ok.
IMO - it seems that if that gets more kids and others involved in making more noise than they normally would, then its a good thing.
A further positive would be that as these type of supporters get used to making more noise in this way then it would flow through to them being more noisy at other times too.

I must be in the minority - I think this 19th man stuff is awesome :P I think it's a great initiative by the club to get the crowd more involved. I was excited to be a part of those four score assists :P I'm in Bay 219 (northern end, right behind the goals, but just in front of a box lol) and you could really hear all the booing and noise carrying on. It was fabulous. I wonder if the people in the boxes behind us were getting irritated by our clappers lol. I don't care if they were, to be honest.

I don't mind Tilli or Andrew etc, but it's annoying because half the time you can't even hear what they're saying anyway lol. We need subtitles! I did have a bit of a laugh when Tilli was trying to talk but the siren kept preventing her from doing so haha.

My dad has commented before that Crows fans really don't make enough noise, especially when we're losing - this is when we tend to go quiet, and I don't think that helps much. If anyone has experienced the atmosphere at a soccer match in England, you'd just be in awe at how they all carry on during the ENTIRE game. There is not one lapse in noise during those 90 mins. There is always some chant going on, no matter who is winning or losing, etc.

I hope we can keep up our score assist record against Sydney in a few weeks' time :D

I thought the 19th Rule concept was a success yesterday and one of the few successful 19th Man attempts this year. The noise every time North Melbourne had a shot at goal was fantastic. Normally it's just a handful of people behind the goals booing at a shot. Last night it was the bulk of the stadium. I enjoyed it.

And just to prove my theory that the 19th flag raising is NOT done by club members, yesterday they had club doctor Brian Sando do the flag raising. Nothing against Dr. Sando, but this is supposed to be for the members, not suits/celebrities/officials. Just get rid of it.
