This is probably one of those knee-jerk reaction rule changes, but based on how some people have reacted to ef99's strategy, would some sort of trade/bidding restrictions be good for new players? Pakenham is essentially stuck with overpaying 6-7 players for the next 5 years, severely limiting how a new coach taking on the team can make changes to it.

I.e. something like "bids/trades by new players must be approved by admin prior to being valid"?

There should be restrictions on bids made on older players, eg. Length of contract, hard to control and manage and usually everyone is fairly realistic, probably a knee jerk reaction as Danoz said above after eaglesfan.

Front ending contracts as a reward for having unused/unusable cap space at off-seasons end

Great Idea, or ability to structure contracts, but need to be careful with back ending
Russian has already said this won't be happening as it's too hard for him to keep track of. If I can find the post I'll quote it for you.

The only thing id change is teams that are quite average and have been for a few seasons get the ability to apply for a compo pick, like how melbourne did and failed.

New coaches probably need to be found a month before the off season so they can be educated in this league so we dont get an ef99 situation again. Also dont recommend anyone that wouldnt be able to cope with the league.

I think Russian does enough work for us in this league so try to keep things simple for him.

I'll suggest it every year until he caves :)

But not for back-ending. I can go into greater depth of how to keep my idea very simple

If front loaded contracts are introduced then you would have to also set a maximum % that you can front load (eg 10% on players base salary). Open to too much manipulation otherwise and would also be unrealistic.

If a coach is AWOL for a legit reason all bids on their players are void. Just something put in to avoid the sausageroll situation of this year.

Ability to de-list players and commit to re-rookie them.

Need to work the finer points such as age limits, salary etc, perhaps none over 30 and re-rookied at 50% of salary ?? Can only be upgraded as per normal rookie rules, manager runs the risk of losing the player in the draft(s) but at 100% of salary.

I'm not sure I understand this one? Don't think a rule is needed, just de-list a player and then draft them in the rookie draft. Doesn't make sense to drop the overall salary either. Just like in real life, if someone else nabs them before you then tough luck but at least then they will be paying for the rookie portion of their contract.

Why do AFL clubs do it then, for list management, opens up another draft pick if you choose.

Just spit-balling and like I said probably needs some refining. Perhaps keep salaries consistent ? Who knows but I can see it adding an element to the game.

Yeah clubs do it so they get an extra draft pick in the national draft. They still have to pay their original salary though and there is no guarantee that a different club will select them earlier than the original club does, even as a rookie.

It just involves delisting a contracted player, then re-drafting that player as a rookie.

The only problem with it in the AFLTM is that there are restrictions on age and/or games played for rookie eligible players otherwise it's just the same.
