Damn right it's been done to death. Goddard peaked 18 months ago and after 3 GFs didn't walk away with the prize.

He'll be 28 years old next season. Some will want to take six hundred thousand dollars (+) out of our salary cap and sacrifice a top 18 draft pick for a battle-scarred 200 game veteran but for me no thanks.

Still a quality player but could be lacking motivation in a team suffering its own scarring. ..

I have a mate on the Gold Coast (coincidently) who has been on the St Kilda board in the past, who still has links to the club. He tells me that BJ, does in fact wish to leave after this season, but not for the reasons already outlined by many. It is not money that he seeks as a type of final super fund, but Premiership glory.

Read into that what you like, but I reckon he won't be agreeing to go to the Giants, but Blues, Pies, Hawks or Cats are the likely destination. ;)
Bullshit.

Agree with this, depends how much he wants but hmmm I'm not sold on the whole Goddard biz

IMO Goddard is very over rated and really don't want to see him in navy blue

I'm hearing we're making a big play for Cloke.
would kill to get cloke

Goddard is the missing puzzle. We get Goddard he can kick goals play defence play midfield. I would think getting Goddard and possibly getting 2 first round pick would get Carlton success for a long time. I really would not like losing Warnock but if we get another 1st pick. We could end up with 2 real good midfielders from this draft along with Buckley, Bootsma possibly Dale with guys like Murphy, Gibbs, Yarran, Robinson, Lucas, Gartlett. These guys could take over Carrazzo, Scotland and Simpson in years to come and Judd.

Yeah maybe a little harsh on Warnock, However hampson and kreuzers performances around the ground and infront of goal were very good tonight. Although I agree that warnock is better with the hit outs I think he will find it hard to get back in if hamma keeps performing infront of goal.

If we got a top 20 pick (in a strong draft) for him and saved the cap space I think we could come out of this pretty well. Would be great for the club to get 2 first rounders and allow WH to keep the talent coming through the door.
Yes I agree but it all depends if Warnock would leave, I don't think he would leave. I would still get Goddard if he still firing, really depends if he has any interest in Carlton these days.

So since Goddard is a free agent at the end of this season, let's just say he nominates Carlton as the club he wants to go to, the Saints will get compo from the AFL right? We just have to put a decent offer in front of him and don't have to actually trade anything for him do we?

It's all here Tanks .........

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=130820

A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is one of the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service. (restricted free agent)
The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
His club has the right to match the presented offer.

If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade or enter the Draft.
If the club does not or can not match the offer, the player can move to the new club of his choice.
His original club will receive a compensation pick for the loss of the player, on an AFL-determined formula to apply where clubs lose more free agents than they gain in any single transfer period.

Goddard falls into the restricted free agent category.

People need to get over getting Goddard once and for all.... Its kind of annoying reading about this year in year out.

Pretty sure that Goddard will have completed 10 years this year so is an UNRESTRICTED free agent at the end of the year. I am sure he was drafted in 2002.

Incorrect.

He is restricted ..........

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=130821

Some of the game's biggest names also feature among 19 restricted free agents, including Collingwood's Travis Cloke, Saint Brendon Goddard and Richmond's Brett Deledio.

He has completed 10 yrs but from memory, it has something to do with a contract extension he did a few years ago & not a new contract.
Can someone confirm this?

Free agents have to be nominated by March of each year apparently. There are 81 free agents listed this year by the AFL

Goddard is listed as Restricted.

For Carlton

Heath Scotland - Restricted
Jordan Russell - Unrestricted
Bret Thornton - Unrestricted

Jordan Russell's unrestricted status after only eight years' service means he's not in the Blues' top 25 per cent of earners. Sure to attract interest.

Big names that are unrestricted:

Simon Black -Unrestricted
Jonathan Brown Unrestricted
Paul Chapman - Unrestricted
Corey Enright - Unrestricted
Steve Johnson - Unrestricted
Matthew Scarlett - Unrestricted
Luke Hodge - Unrestricted
Sam Mitchell - Unrestricted
Lenny Hayes - Unrestricted
Stephen Milne - Unrestricted
Leigh Montagna - Unrestricted
Darren Glass - Unrestricted
Daniel Kerr - Unrestricted

I think it is because he is in the top 25% of highest paid players at St Kilda, that he is restricted. The top 25% of highest paid players are restricted no matter how many seasons above 8 they have played or how many times they have come out of contract.

That's pretty much right as he re-signed before his last contract ended his restricted, however if he had of re-signed after his last contracted ended he would now be a free agent.

Anyway here is link that explains all the different categories of free agency

We almost certainly wont be offering him a contract untill the end of the season. He is getting older and the club will want to see if he can carry his form through the season.

Not to mention the situation he is in at the moment.

Dont think this rumour is true at all.

Are you sure you heard correctly.... maybe they said "kreuz" :)
