Bit confused with our trading and delistings the last few weeks.

Firstly why did we add two more lightly framed flanker types in Morton and Mcmahon when we desperately need height and strong bodied players.

Secondly why did we delist Pat Bowden ahead of Cam Howat, Howat is an outside player with no upside whilst Pat Bowden was versatlie and at 6'3 added some height and depth.

I understand Wallace is trying to build a team around the whole run and carry style of play but to win finals you really need strong bodied players who can grind it out when required.

Will be very dissapointed if we dont draft either tall kpp with our last two picks or strong bodied players with upside in the upcoming draft.

Because despite all evidence to the contrary wallace & miller think it is more important to be able to run with the ball than to get it in the first place.:thumbsd:

Because these two have super disposal. Its our turnovers that cost us more then anything. Not to mention when you go after a Tall you usually have to pay overprice for an ordinary one. We got lucky with Polak. Strong bodies will come as the kids get a few more preseasons in.

Because howat is on the rookie list. We needed 3 free spots on the normal list, so Howat was never in the equation. Howat will go because we will not promote him and we cannot retain him as a rookie.

Guys like Foley, Tuck, Coughlan, Polo, Jackson, Collins, King, Newman will fill that role or are being groomed to fill that role. Deledio, Tambling, Connors and edwards will hopefully take an inside outside role, with some help from Foley.
Its our outside players that have struggled, JON, Meyer and Raines.

Because Strong bodied players with upside are just growing on trees. Everyone wants them and they not always there when your pick is up. Brock Mclean, Jordan Lewis, Joel Selwood and maybe Nathan Jones (Tho he is a tuck clone) were the ones picked up in the last 4 drafts. Before that you could say Bartel and Hodge in 2001 but they both struggled for the first 3 or 4 years with injuries, consistency and building their body to AFL size.

why do people think mcmahon and morton have super skills, mcmahon is a turnover king, and morton has played only a handful of games. dont believe everything millers says, surely our previous draft picks meyer, JON and pattison who was recruited as a key position more so than ruck, proves miiler can talk the talk. dont get sucked into mcmahon and morton are going to fix our problems.

morton isn't lightly built, look at his youtube vid, he's bigger than nearly all our kids. mcmahon had an off year with the boot, much like johnson, he can turn it around and be a real weapon for us.

lindsay gilbee is what you call good skills, mcmahon is nowhere near as capable as gilbee is with the footy, stop dreaming. no point mcmahon running with the ball if there is no run around him. mcmahon has only played one good year (2006) of footy and he has been in the system for 7 yrs, hardly one off year.

If you watched us play last year you would have seen that we were able to get the ball but couldn't use it properly.

We have many inside mids but very few outside types that have shown anything.

The bigger bodies will come with age as half our side were under 50 gamers for virtually every game.

Personally would have maybe left it at the Morton deal but McMahon is hardly going to bring the club to its knees if it doesn't work out

the only blokes that have mastered the "run and carry" are the water boys...as for the team they couldnt "run and carry" in an egg and spoon race....

hey egg and spoon races are not to be taken lightly, I've heard tell judd struggles in them and has been caught numerous times with a bit of chewy on his spoon.

I can understand why we picked up who we picked up during trade weak considering the relative weakness of this years draft in comparison to others, however what i dont undertsand is why we delisted Paddy Bowden. He showed some good form in the VFL, and considering out desperate lack of talls he would have been quite useful this year.

was soft as butter in the VFL
got some cheap goals but never showed any thing that made me think he was up to standard

Ok so point 1. I completley agree... It is also an admission that the recruiting of our previous years flankers is a BIG (though not complete) flop.

As for Bowden v Cam Howat. Very simple. Howats a rookie listed player and isn't on the list. (nb. he still isn't)

Back to the first point. Those two guys may make us better. But why couldn't they have worked out a deal to get McMahon in the PSD!!!! Then they could have kept pick 19. Yes, there would have been some convincing to be done to go down that path, but we could have offered him good terms.

Nb. Morton could well turn out to be a big recruiting blunder...seems like the odds are about as good as a draft pick of that order panning out. Not ideal, but in a weaker draft perhaps ok.

That said, have a look at burgatrons top 5 from each draft each year (i think it was in footy digest) and you will see why you shouldn't trade away any pick. Each year had players picked WAY down the list being in the top 5. The risk on missing a champ should be to great.

the philosophy is that the small player will always beat a big player. the cklub needs more small downhill skiers to be playing in the finals like what happened at footscray.
