AFL Club
Essendon
So we have 7 games left starting with Port on Saturday.

What is everyone hoping to get out of these games? Is it wins, blooding youth, percentage, salvaging our season, finals, tanking or draft picks?

Personally, I don't like tanking. We already have a losing culture around here and really need wins for a bit of confidence heading into the off season. Melbourne and Carlton are proof that it doesn't work.

Run home:

Ess vs Port
Ess vs WB
GWS vs Ess
Ess vs Adel
GC vs Ess
Ess vs Rich
Coll vs Ess

I'll say Richmond, GWS and Bulldogs to be the likely losses, with Port and Collingwood to be genuine 50-50s.
Now if we are going to be optimistic, we can aim to win all games, leaving us with a record of 12-10 and a good shot for finals (just getting in early in case it happens). Looking at our run home, Richmond would be the hardest team we play.

If we can go 4-3 for the rest of the season, that'd be an achievement.

But, we have a very good record against the next 5 teams. Win the next 3 and we might have a bit of momentum going into the Adelaide game, who aren't that good at Etihad. Port, Bulldogs and GWS are all down on form from earlier in the year and we haven't lost to them for a very long time (never in the case of GWS). They might have a few injuries in the next few weeks while we gain some from injuries.

If we are to somehow make finals, we don't really need drastic upsets in neutral games to go our way. Melbourne and Port need to be good though. Of course that is just being very very optimistic as we are crap, but it is always still a mathematical chance if things start to get better. Thoughts?

We have a chance in all seven games. Personally I would like us to give more game time to the likes of Browne, Fantasia, Edwards, Giles etc.

Ess vs Port - WIN
Ess vs WB - WIN
GWS vs Ess - WIN
Ess vs Adel - LOSS
GC vs Ess - LOSS
Ess vs Rich - LOSS
Coll vs Ess - WIN

Finishing the year off with 9 wins will be a good outcome for the club.

I'm hoping to win my Supercoach League comp. Currently in second place, top four secured.

I'll use this thread for our VFL run home as well.

Geelong vs Essendon at Kardinia Park should be a comfortable victory. Correct.
Footscray vs Essendon at Western Oval will be a good game, could go either way.
Essendon vs Werribee at Windy Hill should be another win, they're dropping off badly.
Frankston vs Essendon at Frankston Oval should be a belting our way.
Essendon vs Footscray at QE Oval should be an entertaining game.
Essendon vs Richmond at Windy Hill should be a win again.

Blood youth, would love to see Laverde keep getting games, hes shown that hes up to it, would also like Langford to continue to get a gig.

Alex Browne should play all games.

I hope we win as many as we can, ignoring the draft, it's better for our current players to be in a winning environment. We evaluate the draft after we know where we will be finishing. I'd take winning every game over getting pick 1.. (Honestly, think it would help player development to get those W's.)

Oh, and Edwards plays.... every game, no questions asked. He's so slick.

Win at all costs with team selection in mind. Eg theres no point in bringing back a senior player for 1-2 games to get the win. Blood the youth and show them what it takes to play at AFL level.

I'd like to see a Rising Star nomination for one of our players. Maybe Laverde or Edwards can get one. There's no need for tanking as it seems unlikely we'll win more than one of the next seven.

I'd also like to see Giles in the seniors at some point.

- Browne to play consistently well through the midfield and across half-back (also Dalgleish to a lesser extent)
- Kav to get some time at stoppages, play well and earn a new contract
- Myers and Hocking to come back, teach the rest of the term that sherparding is a thing
- Hooker/Carlisle to kick a few snags
- Carlisle to re-sign
- Wada to spontaneously combust
- Ben Mcdevitt to get a job at Carlton, since they probably need a new tackling coach

Could really build a bit of momentum and win the next 5 really.
Maybe even the collingwood game they tend to drop a bit the last couple of rounds.
Really does seem like a case of right place and right time. Port, WB and GWS dropping off, Collingwood might be done by then.

Could we have the reverse slide?

Why are people very slow to realize we are officially tanking ?
We are looking at kids, playing our CHB a CHF playing an undersized ruck, not rushing any older blokes back in.
We are not looking at winning too many more games.

We will not beat GWS or the Dogs. Would be more chance against the GC.
I hate to say this but right now not winning any more games is the best result for the club. I am very anti tanking but injuries and where we now sit
on the ladder the best result would be to finish in the bottom 5.

Because after how badly tanking has gone for other teams, if that's what we're seriously doing then the entire coaching staff should be removed.

What's the difference between:

a)Playing kids as part of a rebuild.
and
b)Playing kids as part of a tank for draft picks.

If we're playing kids to see how they go, or if they have a future, fine.

If we're playing kids we know don't have a future in order to secure losses for draft picks, the coaching staff can **** off.

Someone who knows how to continually fail. A match made in heaven.

That old chestnut ;)

We're not tanking, but we're putting youth ahead of winning.
