Congratulations on Jordan Russell - 6th in the B&F behind only Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, Fevola and Kreuzer.

Interesting reading through this thread... I'm glad a few in here aren't in charge of list management at the CFC.

A few posters in this thread alone with some serious egg on their faces.

C_P - if you're reading this, Im sure you'll agree wholeheartedly!

Here is a short sample for those who cant be bothered to read the whole thread:

It amazes me how he gets a game every week, absolute dud.

Still amaze you?

Don't worry I am sure there will be a few people coming in here soon saying we should give him time

Looks like we were right.

Please drop jordan russell, disgrace to the carlton jumper.

Still think so?

should be dropped and never put a carlton jumper on again

Wrong.

He has got to go, can't cut it in the pressure situations but continues to get a game because he is playing his 'role'. I'm afraid this may be the last straw for Russell.

Im afraid you were also wrong.

Opposition players must pray to the footballing gods that Russell lines up on them.

God can be cruel cant he?

Oh I agreed with JeffDunne on the Carlton has no depth thread by saying I agree that Jordan Russell is Rubbish ...

On the main board (and others like Bay 13) surely I reserve the right to post/offer the opinion that JR is rubbish etc, it probably makes me a bad supporter I'll accept that...

Yep. Glad you accept you are a bad supporter. Also very wrong.

He is shit, and he has has had plenty of chances. Pack your bags JR, thanks for nothing and good luck in the future. It's a disgrace that he continues to get a game...

Glad you're not in charge of recruiting and list management Alpha.

I'd much rather have someone like Carlos fight alongside me in the trenches then Jordan Russell, who really shows more 'qualities' suited for the 'Melbourne Vixens' then AFL footy..

Yes Jordan Russell is soft, and I'll stand by that opinion to the hilt, and not only that, his disposal is rubbish, and he refuses to do any of the fundamental one percenters or go for the contested possies or chase/tackle his opponents.

Still think so?

He would be delisted in a good team like Geelong. His one percenters are piss weak, his skills are ordinary and his decision making are U10 like.

The fact that players like Russell are in our best 22, is an indication that Carlton have a long, long way to go. Our recruiting department and coaching panel needs to be overhauled.

6th in the B&F behind Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer.

Decent under 10s squad.

Perhaps our coaching panel and recruiting department are doing just fine?

Depth player at best only JR, and an ideal world, he would only an emergency, I certainly wouldn't have him as part of our best 22 all things being equal.

And thats why you aren't in charge of list management and never will be.

Jordan Russell is a champion. I love him. He finally has a defined role that suits him perfectly and now has the confidence and mental aspect of the game down pat. He's a student of the game- always watching game film and other games. I'm expecting bigger things from him in 2010 and beyond. I think a top 4 is in line for him next season behind only the big 3 in the midfield.

He played well once he came back from his spell in the Ants....However the spell was long overdue, even the most devout JR fans were calling for him to be dropped mid season.

I do not believe JR was in out top 6 players this year and I think the votes are a reflection of the MCs love for him, no one can denie he has played many more games than his form has warrented over his career.

It appears to me that JR is a big confidence player and one could argue that the MC handled him poorly by continually playing him in the seniors despite poor form the last 2 years. Surely a couple of best ons in the VFL every now and again would have given his confidence a boost whilst he finished his development. This also would have prevented his whipping boy status, which apparently JR was aware of (according to someone on BF).

However his work ethic has never been questioned and in the last 6 rounds it really started to pay off. JR has convinced me that he deserves to be in the starting 18 in round 1 next year and seems poised for a solid season.

Well done to Russ for turning the corner...start next season like you finished this one and you will go from whipping boy to favorite son!

Don't know how Russell managed to finish above Simpson, Bower and Thornton in the B&F but good on him. He's been crap since he came to the club but they finally found a position for him in the back pocket in the last 5-7 rounds of the year.

RUSSELL FOR SKIPPER:p

Many players take around 50 games to find their feet.

And im sure JRs introduction to the game as a player in a team mired on the bottom, getting regular thrashings, and with no fixed role to play set him back considerably.

He has all the attributes of a good footballer... Size, speed, athletisism... When he learns to truly back himself he will come close to being elite. Is rapidly becoming one of my favorite players.

Im expecting big things from JR next year (fingers crossed).

On ya Jordy! Congrats on a fantastic finish to the year!

Always been a strong supporter of his and will continue to be.

Had an outstanding finish to the season and that is reflected by a 6th place finish in the Best and Fairest.

Would have gained a lot of confidence from those last rounds and here's hoping he can bring that with him into season 2010.

He has really settled into that role on the half back line and is starting to make a name for himself which is great to see.

He's also making a lot of people look very silly so hats off to the kid. Sure, he took some time but the MC were correct to persist with him and he's starting to show why.

well i posted this 4 months ago and things change, JR needed to be dropped and he was but when he came back he won me over with a couple of really good performances late in the season. I was more than happy to be proven wrong by Russ. Congrats on the 6th place in the B&F JR. (mind you I think simpson and t-bird should have finished above him)

The B&F takes into account the role a player played in a match, as well as the other obvious reasons. The best player according to the people who set out the orders may very well differ greatly compared to what we see out on the ground.

Good point.

I don't know why the coaches award isn't given more attention as this would give players that must play "roles" their due credit.

Heh. I've always said Rusty's problem was self-belief, and it looks like he's found it. Good for him.
