Rumours floating around he may want to consider his options. Getting offered a year by the Cats and multiple years by other teams

What’s he worth? Thought he showed a bit in the limited times I saw him this year, but he is 27 years old already

My guess is WCE who were keen on him in his draft year-if they think Lycett is going they might offer a longer deal than Geelong to give themselves ruck cover.

That said it would be weird if he goes as he's as much chance of being no1 ruck at Geelong as anywhere else.

Trade value wise id say a 50-60 pick is about right.

Great pick up for
Saints
Blues
Dogs
If geelong let him walk there crazy

Those clubs are all rebuilding i doubt they want a 27yo ruck (and dogs have too much invested in Boyd/English/Schache/Trengove anyway).

A top 8 club that needs a readymade ruck is more likely to target a player that age.

good backup ruck

we are too dumb to offer him 2 years

any number of teams will take him for pick 60 and give him the security of 2 years

If any team should be targeting Ryan Abbott it should be Western Sydney.
They have a great accademy product comming
No doubt be good for them and can influence game
Good for the hawks as well
Be a good back up for us too

Good player

Boyds not a ruckman in fact there got problems in that spot

Trengrovre back
Schache and Boyd forward
Leaves english and by all reports he wants to go back to wa eventually and is physically incapable at present
Good pick up for them
Back 3 of naughton Morris and trengrove
Forward line of Schache , Boyd and Abbott floating through

Hmmmm. Didn't know the Eagles were keen when drafted.

Abbott certainly fits a need at the Eagles and if you were him the Eagles would look pretty darn attractive with the list they have and the opportunities on offer. Good chance to play at the top level and play finals.

Can't understand why cats didn't offer him at least 2 years showed a bit and now rumoured to be after Martin from lions who is 32.

He sounds like a dick, let him go.

He's 27 and has played 3 games of AFL. Can you really blame the guy for leaving to chase further opportunities on likely greater money?

He may be an average AFL player but chances are he'll never earn more than what he will in the next 3-5 years. Just making the most of it.

I feel like, given without Geelong it is unlikely that he'd ever play AFL and that he'd have more chance of being ruck #1 at Geelong than any other team, leaving the club because they do not want to over commit to a 27 year old 3 gamer is the type of player no club will want. Footy is a business but a little loyalty goes a long way.

UPDATE: GEELONG is in the box seat to retain big man Ryan Abbott despite AFL rivals circling the ruckman.

Abbott, 27, seems likely to reject more lucrative offers to stay at the Cats.

“I’m really happy playing footy at Geelong and really happy there as long-term as I can,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I’m a local Geelong boy so I always see myself playing footy down here. I want to be here at Geelong.”
