Hows Gamble travelling pre-season? Any insides....

I still hold hope at him taking the step up this year, is just two talented to waste away in the VFL. Ditto Trent West...any news there>?

love the kid, just hope he can bring the goods this year and find some consistency.
also would like to hear of how he is traveling. fingers crossed

I think West will get an opportunity (he should play ahead of Dawson and Vardy while Otto is injured) and I think he will do ok.

Gamble I don't know...he shows much promise, but he never really seems to bring it when he gets a game or two in the ones. We will see. Make or break for him in 2010.

I'm not convinced with his AFL games, he can be great at VFL though.

The only good games he's had have been against the Bulldogs.

Hopefully he'll be playing the first few rounds of the season and have a good impact.

Will be useful if SJ and Chappy have injury interrupted seasons (which seems a no-brainer). Can play that half forward role well though not up to the standard of the aformentioned two. Otherwise can't see him being part of our best 22 unless Byrnes/Stokes/Varcoe drop off in form and favour.

Big year for the kid. Looks to have tons of talent but struggles with consistency. But then again, he is a half forward and that was par for the course 10 years ago.

Really needs to stamp his name on the game in 2010 or I'm guessing he'll be Gold Coast bound. I rekon he'd appeal to their market. Flashy goals, big leap it all fits in.

If he's to stay at the cattery then he needs to perform at a high level. Tough spot to play hence spending time in the middle in the VFL last year. Will need to make a stand early on as Chappy, SJ, Stokes, Varcoe, Rooke & Byrnes are all fitting for those few spots. Here's hoping.

Either Gamble turns it on this year, or he's out.

Potentially he could play an important role with Chappy (hopefully) being heavily managed.

...By managed I mean frequently missing games, whether he likes it or not. His last few years have shown two things. 1) He's physically not capable of playing a season in it's entirety, and 2) He's our most valuable player come finals. Those two things add up to him being managed to within an inch of his life.

Na, still have the faith in Gamble....i am worried about Stevie J, hip injuries are not easily overcome (Ask Clint Young), so in my mind Gamble will have opportunites. Kid can play, just needs to gel with the team a bit better.

Any news on Stevie J? Just read he is still being nursed through persistent hip complaints - so it doesn't sound too encouraging. Anybody know an inside about his condition?

Back to Gamble though. I think he has been used wrong in the Geelong forward line. He is not really a lead up forward, he is very similar to SJ, in that he chases kicks up the ground and then likes to drop deep to create options in general play. I hope he gets his opportunites this year!

Gamble needs to work 30 times harder than he does now. Sadly it isn't an exaggeration either.

Agree with those thoughts. I see Gamble being in mainly if Dog is out.. He is not a small like Byrnes, Varcoe, Stokes and there is NOBODY like Chappy, and he does have something to offer.

Yes, me too VEEDUBS..I like Gamble. Good hands, can kick a goal, but is lacking somewhere. Is it fitness? Desire? Reading play? Has he been tried up the field...in defence. or midfield? I'd just like to see the guy come on....looks to have talent to burn underneath it all......

Needs to develop flexibilty in his game. If there's one thing bomber loves it's players that can rotate through different positions. Right now he's a bit one-dimensional.

I'm not to sure with Gamble. From the VFL games i have seen he really does appear that he has to much talent to be stuck playing VFL and yet at AFL level he really does leave something to be desired.
