Pass, not up to it. Has had several seasons at Freo to make a decent fist of it and despite one season where he looked alrite has done nothing since. Less Chris Johnsons and Greg Bentleys and more kids.

Just pick a kid with some potential to make it instead of a guy who has already shown what they are capable of. Most likely will pick a dud with a late pick but the 1% chance he comes good is more valuable than a list clogger.

I like this a lot. Good hands and quick on the lead. If he's going to fail, we're going to know fairly quickly because he's the finished article. I think he can thrive in the right structure. No one we pick in the 70's will have the ability to immediately fill the role that he can, as a leading FF. Does a bloke picked in the 70's need to be straight on to the senior list? Anyone you want to pick in that area will likely be available come the rookie draft anyway.

I had exactly the same thought. I think it is known as the Sean Charles rule (or for us older dudes, the Stephen Easton rule).

I always enjoy the 'Let's take a kid,' argument. Any 'kid' in particular so we can discuss their relative strengths and weaknesses? No? So we should just take the 90th best under 18, based purely on the fact that they're young regardless of the depth of the draft, their abilities, their upside or our immediate needs... Great.

If we pick Murphy up in the pre-season draft, we can offload another list clogger.

Thornton and o'hAilpin won't be there at the end of 2011.
Mite as well speed up the process and get rid of one this year, and give a younger bloke in Murphy a go.
