His a lot older then most the guys mentioned. Medhursts end of last year and whole season this year has been as good as what O' Keefe has to offer. O' Keefe has produced his best as a roaming link man and not as a number one foward.
 
He's a nice player , nothing more. Hard working , lead up forward , links up nicely and plenty of inside 50 entries , but a player who doesn't hurt enough on the scoreboard. He has never kicked over 35 goals in a season.
I would be confident a player like Ben Reid could play a similar role and be at least as effective in the future. Cloke already is.

We should pursue any interest we have in ROK.

All-Australian, A-grade footballers do not grow on trees and he would instantly become a top 3-5 player at our club. You can never have too many quality players.

He would also alow Thomas to become the fully fledged midfielder we require, Didak too and would be another dangerous forward option.

Second/third round pick + a player (Rhyce Shaw or BJ) should be enough to get the deal done, if the rumours are true that he has nominated Carl/Coll/Haw as his preferred clubs.

Carlton won't have a 2nd rounder with Warnock in their sights and pick 6 is too much. Only way we wouldn't get him is if Hawks decide to use pick 16.

We need to land a big fish and ROK is that! He will also help fill some leadership voids we have at our club currently.

He is easily good for 3-4 years. We could definitely have a crack at a flag with ROK as our list is young and we can afford to take a punt on him, without trading away our first pick.

ROK is an absolute gun. I think I'm justified there.

Also, coming out of contract and wanting to leave means Sydney will not receive market value ala a first round draft pick. They will get upto a second rounder at best + a player.

Again, I missed your point. BJ might not attract anything but Rhyce would.
 
The only thing I'd really like about acquiring him is he'd offer immense on-field leadership that would otherwise be an obvious void in 2009.

What, get O'Keefe, push Dids into midfield full-time? Yeah, perhaps. He's got St.Kilda written all over him but.

If he does leave clubs will be competing for him , a deal like that will never happen if he wants to get back to melbourne. Teams will end up giving more , no matter what fantasy type scenario is concocted. List cloggers do not upgrade a draft pick either.

As I said before, this article also states the facts that we are in a very good position to lure ROK, despite ruling out our first round pick and Alan Didak.

Sydney is not at all in a very good situation because Carlton won't offer pick 6, their second rounder will be used on Warnock, Melb are zero chance, Saints wont part with their first either (wouldn't surprise though) meaning our second rounder is just about the best offer on the table + a player or combination of players. That is unless Hawks decide to make a play and offer their first rounder.

Out of contract players in the age brackets of mid to late 30s do not command first round draft picks, particularly if they want to move. That's not to say ROK is an awesome footballer. It's just business.

If Sydney accept a deal involving Rhyce or BJ + picks we will be popping champagne bottles come end of trade week.

Plenty of water to go under this bridge though.

I think he could play on the wing and as others have said you do not pass up an opportunity to bring class into a club.

That said, I think we will need more than our second round plus Rhyce or BJ to get the job done. If O'Keeffe does leave and Hall is sounding shaky as well all that really leaves the Swans with is O'Loughlin who can't have many years left so they should be looking for a forward as part of the deal.

You'd think the Saints might throw Kosi up and if Hawthorn are interested Tim Boyle will be on the table. If we want to join the party a more suitable deal would have to include Rusling IMO.

But ROK is just a poor man's Reiwoldt. They don't need him any more than we do.

Reckon Geelong could do worse than have a look at him. Then again, they probably don't have the salary cap room.

You can say he is too old and not what we need but please dont say he is not physical enough. That is one of the worst calls i've ver heard. He is one of the toughest players in the AFL.

Totally agree. I think he is a class act but we already have an abundance of lead up forwards at the moment and should be focusing on getting a speedy/tough midfielder or key position back.

You dont win All Australian honours for being just a 'nice player'. He is a gun, nothing less.
In saying that, i agree he isnt the type of player we need. I would prefer we put all attention towards getting one of the following:
  • Speedy tough inside onballer (i.e. Kerr)
  • Tagger who can stop the elite midfielders (i.e. Crowley)
  • Key position backman to help out N.Brown
  • Small defender to play on the likes of Milne/N.Brown

You actually think Rhyce Shaw plus a second or third rounder would get it done? NOWHERE near it. You acknowledge that ROK is an absolute gun, an A grade player... yet you throw up that sort of offer? It would take a deal to fill their needs, such as - Rusling + pick 11, or possibly someone like Anthony or Goldsack plus pick 11. Not that I would do any of these, because ROK isn't needed.

BTW I see what you're saying about the uncontracted part, but the reality is St.Kilda or Carlton or someone will offer far more than the trade you suggested.

I've said in another thread that it's important to distinguish between tough (e.g. Hodge) and physical (e.g. J-Brown).

ROK isn't exactly going to bring the pain.

You would not get any better than O'Keefe and pick 9 for Didak, that would be massive compensation but I agree re small forwards & need for youth/mids.

Doubt Sydney would be full of beans about it either. :p
