Is it just me, or do you think Paddy will be developed as a ruckman from now on? this draft we got two more KPP players in Hurley and Micheal Still. We all know that Hurls will be our FB for a long time, and Tayte will be another KPB, but we have three potential KPB in Hooker, Daniher and Still, with all of them potentially playing at either end. I think Still will be a FP, and potentially a FF/CHF when Gumby and Neagle are injured. Hooker and Daniher will probably rotate from the bench and the backline. Agree/Disagree

I would prefer to see Ryder play back or forward but playing as the ruckman in that part of the ground.

I think he could pinch hit in the ruck, say when the ball is in the defensive 50, but he should play primarily as a CHB. He reads the play well and could provide us with great rebound out of defense. If he plays in the ruck he is likely to get injured (like Goodes) and this will compromise his development and influence on the game.

15 kg's later and Ryder will go into the ruck... :)

Absolutely no chance of him been a key forward. It'd take him years to adjust to it if we were desperate for a forward.

I disagree, he's naturally attacking, has a nice long kick, a good pear of hands... he'd beat 9 out of every 10 CHB in the competition as it stands.

Having said that Gumby will be CHF and Neagle probably FF for the next 10 years! What a spine, we've got a plethora of potentially gun key position players. Hurley, Ryder, Gumbleton, Neagle, Pears and Still... Hooker has a lot of work to do and Daniher is a tad too short to play KP but still (no pun intended) a fantastic bunch of young talls!!!

He seamed pretty clueless when he played up forward this year, on the odd occasions.

As you said, he is attacking, only when he's playing off Half back though.:o

Just play him where he plays best, CHB...

One of the issues i have with Ryder going into the ruck is his seemingly light frame. He would have to bulk up and would probably lose speed and agility. Don't think we want him to do that. I reckon Laycock has found it harder to move around since putting on some bulk, and subsequently gets bagged by the "faithful" every week. Laycock will adjust, have faith and be patient. We have a good ruck duo, and we haven't even had time to see how Bellchambers will turn out. We can always rookie a fourth ruckman in case of injury.

Paddy would be great up forward if he could improve his set shots, he'd be great down back in the roaming tall roll we tried to create for fletch. I think he could also be great used on the wing in stints. I'd have liked to vote for that option. Yeah, Paddy's great.

^^I agree, Ryder could be absolutely devastating up forward. It's not like he's ever had a chance. Saying he looked clueless on the back of 1 or 2 games is ridiculous. Didn't he play there as a junior? I reckon he would be a nightmare to match up on up forward for an opposition coach.

However, I also think he could play in the ruck, and pretty much that he's jesus christ incarnate, so take that into account

Possibly in 3 years time he could be used as a devastating swingman between ruck and forward.

Up until then he should occupy a key defensive post and learn how to get the ball 15 times a game. His size isn't too bad but a little more strength wouldn't hurt.

He certainly needs to produce consistent defensive capabilities before I'm sold with Ryder at CHB. Looks good to commentators and media alike there but with little substance imo.

I think this is a little unfair. Ryder was top 10 in spoils in the league last year. He also produced a string of good performances in the earlier half of the season.

The reason he had quite a few kicked on him during our losing streak is that it simply went down there too often due to a lack of accountability in the midfield.

Agreed. Ryder was the only shining light during that 8 game losing streak.

efa.

I think Hurley will be our CHB, Pears our Fullback with Ryder playing the third tall-come attacking defender similar to an Andrew Mackie. Good enough one on one that he can mind the number one or two forward during injury or rotations/players out of position. Also trying to go third man up when possible by running off his lesser opponent. Will also swing forward at times and kick a goal further adding to the oppositions worries.

At least thats what I hope

It's possible. He did do pretty well when he was pushed up into the ruck this year.

But I still see him as the natural replacement for Fletcher.

I must be watching a different game.

Ryder was worse than laycock when he played in the ruck.

And it is even more surprising seeing that he played most of his junior football in the ruck.

Allow Ryder to become the best possible KB.

some of you fellas have been beering up with sceptic tanks over here by the sound of it.

Paddy is useful in the ruck but he is not a ruckman.

Read it again

That is Paddy's bio.

His assets are elsewhere and certainly around the ground.

Lol are you serious? Yes his around the ground work is poor but IIRC he had a huge hit out to advantage ratio whenever he went into the ruck.

I agree that we should let him develop as a key back for now, when our backline is developed then we might be able to try him out in other areas...

And to say that he won't make it on the basis of 15min game time for one or two games is really just...astonishing, anyone with Ryder's natural talent given a decent exposure should be able to at least make a fist of it.
