There's a State of origin team thread on the main board, and I thought it might be interesting to see what Crows fans would come up with if you had to choose a team now.

I don't know about everyone else but I certainly miss the SOO footy.

My SA team based on current form and fitness

B: Bassett Rutten Wanganeen
HB: D Bell Rivers Torney
C: K Cornes S Thompson Camporeale
HF: Eagleton Tredrea Goodwin
F: Ottens Pavlich O Loughlin
R: Minson Ricciuto Cooney
I: Harley McMahon Edwards B Holland

E: Lade Burns Burton

Coach: Blight if he could be arsed.

Not 100% sure about Minson's eligibility, but he was drafted from Norwood. Lade would come in if big Will is not aligned to SA.

Pretty well balanced team IMHO.

My tilt, according to form and fitness, etc:

FB:... N. Bassett ....... B. Harris ........ M. Wilson
HB:... N.D. Brown ....... J. Rivers ........ C. Enright
C:.... S. Camporeale .... M. Ricciuto[c] ... S. Goodwin
HF:... T. Edwards ....... M. Pavlich ....... N. Eagleton
FF:... G. Wanganeen ..... W. Tredrea[vc] ... B. Ottens
R:.... B. French ........ K. Cornes ........ A. Cooney

IC:... S. Burns, S. Thompson, B. Rutten, K. Kingsley

Emergencies/Rest of squad: J. Torney, A. Fiora, S. Dew, J. McMahon, P. Walsh, K. McGregor, C. Ackland, S. Wakelin

Not considered due to injury/susp: P.Burgoyne, G. Johncock, C. Cornes, R. James, L. Darcy, B. Pickett

That seems a reasonable effort. :)

From a Port perspective Stuart Dew has been our best player this year by so far it is not funny, so if anyone from Port is in the side he should be first picked on form and following that trend you would probably have to say Peter Walsh. I see players like Scott Camporeale in the side based upon reputation, that would be my first swap for Dew.

Im not feeling entirely safe playing both Bassett and Harris in the side.

Looks like most the Crows player have been included, perhaps Mattner could sneak a bench spot?

D. Wakelin is in career best form, he'd be FB for sure.

I had my doubts about Wakelin whether he could go on this year, he has been absolutely brilliant.

I suppose the Port supporters would push for him to be in the side, Crows supporters the same for Rutten.

I put Campo in mainly due to his engine, and the fact he's right-sided - he's also getting a fair bit of it despite Carlton's indifferent form. Reputation wasn't a factor.

I flirted with naming the likes of Dew, Walsh and Fiora, who are all in great form at present, but they missed out due to team balance. If Dew (or Fiora) were right-sided I'd have no problems naming one or the other on the bench at least.

Actually, Bassett is in career-best form now that he's been freed from playing out of position at fullback. He's top-10 in the league for spoils at the moment and is one of the best third-up defenders in the caper - as a tall(ish) backpocket I have no problems with his selection.

My selection of Harris, Rivers and Rutten in the side says more about the current dearth of established South Aussie key defensive talent, despite the fact all three have good potential. If we were looking for experience rather than youth you'd go with the Wakelins.

Skipworth and Mattner's form on the whole is as good as anyone eligible for the SA guernsey, but I just couldn't bring myself to put them into the mix ;)

I've had a dash. Players currently injured were not chosen, but listed below. I've based my team on the last year-or-so, not just on 2005. I don't believe 8 games maketh a state player!

F K.Kingsley, M.Pavlich, T.Edwards
HF S.Burns, W.Tredrea (VC), A.Cooney
C N.Eagleton, M.Ricciuto (C), S.Goodwin
HB N.Brown, J.Rivers, M.Wilson
B G.Wanganeen, S.Wakelin, T.Harley
R B.French, K.Cornes, S.Camporeale
I B.Ottens, S.Camporeale, S.Thompson, B.Pickett
E C.Enright, B.Lade, M.O'Loughlin

Injured: C.Cornes, L.Darcy, G.Johncock, P.Burgoyne, R.James, S.Burgoyne

I must've missed something, but who has S. Wakelin beaten this year?

So when did S. Wakelin step ahead of D. Wakelin last year either?

Good side Truckster...big call on Thommo in the pivot?? Me thinks you have big wraps on this bloke?

In all honesty, it's probably line-ball. I think you underrate Shane and how much tougher it is playing in defence in a crap team. Whenever I watch the Pies, it's always Wakelin and Clement that hold them together (for the most part) in defence.

It's interesting that their stats are almost identical last year...

Shane 9 kicks, 4 marks, 3 rebounds
Darryl 9 kicks, 5 marks, 2 rebounds

this year...

Shane 13 kicks, 5 marks, 4 rebounds
Darryl 11 kicks, 6 marks, 2 rebounds

Can't recall the last time stats were a measure of a good backman.

Like your side but would swap positions for Tredrea & Pavlich.

My love for Thommo is no secret :D

Seriously though, who would be ahead of him on current form?

It's irrelevant whether a player is in career best form or not. Doesn't mean they're playing better than somebody else.

The Truck all the way.

Well why not stop asking ridiculous questions and state why Darryl is better than Shane. Jesus.

I agree.

Porthos are you here just to debate things that are put forward by others ? Generally it's a good idea when you disagree with something to put forward an alternative argument with reasons.

Personally I think both are in good form and an argument could be made for either of them to be in the team. No big deal really,

Whichever one played it would be very hard to "tell" the difference. :D
