I have noticed over the past few weeks people been posting about been involved in SAAFL or other Ammo leagues. Was just curious to see where other people play/coach/umpire or what not.

I am currently playing for Trinity Old Scholars in Div 6. Great fun and this is my first time in 10 years I have played and makes me realize how much I love playing footy as well as watching it.

So anyone else play?

I still play in the amatuers. Poorly.

Not saying where though, just in case people are searching my posts for tid bits of information about me so that they can stalk me.

I'm always puzzled by people on this board who are (supposedly) football fans but don't have a playing, coaching, umpiring, managing, volunteering, committee, administrative... role in a local club. I don't see how you can be a football fan without having that coal face involvement.

Supporting the Crows from the other side of the fence or television screen is great, but it's essentially make believe. Saturday arvo in the wind and rain... that's real.

I am of service to division 3 when the SANFL dont want me

was stuck at Mitcham vs Para Hills and SMOSH West Lakes vs Para Hills

also - played for Broadveiw when I first moved to Adelaide (2008) - never got to A's, started in B's, but due to my shit fitness I was stuck at Full Forward, and because the B's and C's were shit (lucky to get within 100 points), I played a few games in the u18s (just to get my hands on the footy)

am contemplating playing next season, PAC is top of the list atm

Riggy your picture always make me think that your a fast, fit running player for some reason I couldn't picture a big dude at FF. Call it the Armstrong factor haha

This is particularly evident in any thread about coaching.

The amount of people who understand footy from a 'play station' perspective blows my socks off.

They seem to think football is played by robots who are automatically programmed to do certain things and changes can be made seemlessly.

There are certainly alot of prolific posters who clearly haven't had first had involvement in footy since primary school

Couldn't agree more.

Also, People who draw immediate conclusions about a player becaus ehe makes one mistake, or take the P!ss about a players skills. Chances are if that players went down one level, his skills would be immaculate compared to those around him.

Its almsot as if people don't have a full appreciation for how hard a game footy is to play unles sthey've had some involvement or played at a lower level.

I remember Blighty saying that early on in his coaching days he had to carry a card in his pocket that said "football is a very difficult game" just to remind himself not to be too hard on his players for making errors.

Pittman and Connell probabaly wish he'd hung on to the card a bit longer!

I was about to say, it must not have worked.

When I watch AFL I always marvel at how impressive their skills are and how quick they are with their hands around a contest. If you haven't played footy you don't respect the small things that players do. Having played the game adds another dimension to watching it.

Or when you are at a crows game and people have no idea what the rules are... Just because a crows player gets tackled it doesnt mean it's holding the man or a push in the back and vice versa when a crows player tackles someone it's atomatically holding the ball. I guess it is just part of being there and the atmosphere to get involved but can get a little frustrating when some people have no idea what the rules are.

Back on topic I'll add another one to the div 6 group, Houghton Districts player here.

I'm an ex SAAFL player (Adel Uni, SHOC), but also played for several years in the SFL (Happy Valley). Played until I was 34, then moved interstate with work and effectively retired. Live in Vic now and have coached juniors over here, but am currently VP and Football Manager of a club in the Yarra Valley. Love the game!:)
