Saddington Back?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

It's a totally different scenario. How can you even compare?

Geelong were playing for a premiership. We, are a developing team outside of the 8. Despite fighting to get into the 8. Playing somebody of whom has no future at our club ahead of somebody who could potentially be apart of the team for the next 10+ years?

Play the team that is going to be the core of our rise to the top. Not players for a quick fix.

Look at it from another point of view if the quick fix gets us into finals and all those younger players play a final, it will be worth 20 games alone for each player. So really we are looking at the future. We have blooded heaps of guys this year, if we can also give them a final or 2 that would be invaluable. Aussie will be back, a few more games in the magoos wont do him any harm at all.

Ridiculous decision.

I was having a chat with a young Carlton player tonight who I won't name (you can PM me if you need to) and he didn't know about the change.

When I told him, he was shocked.

We need to play for our future. Jason Saddington has been an excellent footballer in the past, but Austin is the way we need to go.

And despite what the Match Committee thinks, I actually think Austin would be a better match-up regardless...

Gotta love the "Armchair Quarterbacks" on this board. Who are we to question the match committee? Austin has played the last month and hasn't really set the world on fire, but the experience from the last month will make him a better footballer at VFL level with the aim of being a regular senior player in 2009.I am all for playing your best 22 each week. We are still in the hunt for finals and 2008 has been a successful year thus far. Have faith in Ratts and the boys because I am sure they know a hell of lot more than we do.

Go Blues!!!!

He only played against the swans, dogs & port hasn't he? He was decent against the dogs, played only a half against the swans and was avg last nite. Fairly stiff to be dropped for a guy who isnt in future plans & isnt of any trade value!

Where are you?

Very happy to see Saddington get another crack. He has not been all that good since his injuries but have always hoped that with some confidence he could recapture some form he had for the swans. Although Austin did not deserve to be dropped, people have to realise how many players we have been playing with less than 20-30 games experience (Austin, Grigg, Kreuzer, Armfield, Browne, and also Jamo to a certain extent).

Regardless of how you want to fast track development this is not always the best way to do it. We need some more senior presence and hopefully Saddo provides it and does not turn over the ball showing the same poise as he has this year at VFL level. Austin has all the time in the world to develop so lets hope Saddo plays a role for us and shows something for us.

Under Pagan we were never in the hunt for finals.
......as opposed to 2004 when we won 10 games.........but hey......we were never in it right?
Completely different situation.
Oh.....of course......we're on the verge.

Non-comparable to 2004.

After Round 18, 2004 we were 7-11 in 12th position, with 79.08% and a full three wins and 20% outside the eight. We had no chance of making the finals at any stage. We were also non-competitive against top eight sides- 108 point defeat to St Kilda, 105 to Melbourne, 83 to Port, 62 to West Coast. A couple of late wins inflated our final position.

Does that sound like 2008 to you Bluebear?

Just said we were close to finals. And we will probably be as close then as we are now in terms of points..........no question in terms of team and being competitive we are closer now.

The point is, a you know this as well as I do that this board would have gone into meltdown if say.......McLaren had of been picked over Hampson at the end of last season.

Whether we are one game and % closer to finals or not, it still would have been huge.

Your original point was that if Pagan had have replaced Austin with Saddington this week everyone would have jumped on Pagan. That is completely wrong given the current situation.

I stand by that point 100%.

Convince me otherwise.

I dont have to.

You are the one that cannot prove that Pagan would have been dumped on for introducing an experienced player in a must win game to make the finals, becuase we were never in that situation under Pagan (as I have very clearly pointed out).

So all it is is pointless speculation on your behalf.

Best of luck to Saddo on the weekend. Never got his early form back but I hope he gets to play out the year as the general feeling on your board is that he has no chance of being retained next year.

You'd be the sole Swans supporter in Tassie?

Objection......arguementative your honour.

Bigfooty is nothing more than pointless speculation, and to pretend otherwise is ridiculous.

I've wasted enough of your time with this pointless arguement whipper........you can go back to the threads that are saving the world.

Yeah let saddo play , Austin had his taste . Austin had me worried at the start of the year , wasnt too sure if he was up to it , but im satisfied with his progression of late. And i think its the right move to protect him from a game of this importance , bring in the old head of saddo . I got my official blues guernsey in the mail today , bring it on , ill wear it all today -sleep in it-watch the game in it tomorrow- the kiss to number 4 on the back when we win .... Carn the blues

Very well.

But I just hope you realise how pointless adding Pagan into a current thread is. You may feel he was harshly dealt with, but face it, he is gone, nothing will change that, let's all move on.

Could it be possible his announcing his retirement? If you played 150 games of AFL,wouldn't you consider it,knowing you probably won't be retained on the list and get delisted. He was a fine player before injuries and maybe will get a good send off trying to get us to the finals.

At the start of the year didn't Ratten say something about playing kids this year?

Browne
Armfield
Austin
Hampson
Jameison
Anderson
Ellard
Grigg
Bower
Kruezer
Edwards
Hartlett
Have all played this season at one time or another and all "young" players

And to a lesser extent

Murphy
Gibbs
Betts

Whislt they are regulars they are still young players.

So in response to your comment yes he has played kids this season.

I second the above
Play the kids ie Ellard- the future

Even though we have been able to see what a lot of the younger guys have to offer us, there are a few others who i would like to see in preference of Saddo. Good to see Hampson get another game today though.
