Just want to get peoples thoughts on the trade. Are people happy with him for pick 52? And will he be a starting player in the team for next year?

I think we did reasonably well to get him for 52, we'll just have to wait and see how he goes.

I think trading away a 4th round pick in a pretty weak draft for an established player is a good move, especially considering he would slot into our back half. Happy with this one.

He should make your 22. On the flanks or up forward.

However, he has dodgy knees as mentioned.

I suspect Pagan and co have done their homework on players likely to go >50 in the draft and have decided it is a better punt than pick #52 in a weak draft. Hopefully he has a good pre-season and stays fit, if so he might be handy

at 25 yo for pick 52 quite happy with that deal

will be a good addition to our backline working with thornton and the third tall (livo, karl, ???)

How is Ted Richards and Fergus Watts worth more than Saddington?

Spot on ... Richards is a couple years younger but has shown little to nothing. Saddington, whilst coming off a knee reco, is a proven consistent AFL player ... is a good get IMO

Looks like we'll get more value from Saddington than Richards and we've only had to give up a late pick in a shallow draft. Just depends on how his knees hold up. Also good to get some experience into the team to help the younger players coming through.

im pretty happy with this trade, i dont think we are loosing much by trading this late pick for saddington. What position should saddington play in 2006 for the navy blues??

Can saddington play CHB? WHile he might be 194cm tall he's not a kpp player!

I think it was a rubbish trade!

Add it to the list of: Longmuir, Chambers, Bannister, Bowyer, Morell etc

He is 194cm so if he stays fit might hold down CHB and free up Lance to go forward has very good rebound which will be handy, can't lose on that deal so i am more than happy with that considering kanga,s gave 2 first round picks for John Hay who hasn,t done much lately and will play a similar role to Saddington we should be rapped

we finished last and had the worst defensive record in the league, we needed to do something
he doesn't need to play CHB he can be used as a 2nd or 3rd tall,
lets at least wait till he had played a few games

from carltonfc.com.au
Carlton’s General Manager Football Operations Grant Williams told carltonfc.com.au: "We are delighted to have reached an agreement which will see Jason join the club for 2006."

"One of our priorities has been to recruit a key defender. Jason has recovered well from an injury which restricted him in 2005, however he completed the year well and was a member of the NSWAFL Premiership side."

Very happy with Saddington, especially for pick 52! Would have liked the Blues try harder for Ted Richards but would take Mark Bolton for Camporeale rather than let Camporeale walk for nothing.

Lappin needs to be traded for a player, same for Sporn and maybe Houlihan. Houlihan has a lot to prove and is still very young with loads of talent. I'm not a huge fan of his but with Camporeale and Lappin hopefully both traded we could use Houlihan up forward and on a wing.

Yeah sorry mate, didn't realise it was a 2pm dealine. Disgraceful is one word I think fits Denis Pagan and his merry men very well at this present time.

Have to wait & see.
Lets see who is de-listed & who is retained.

Also with 3 picks inside the top 20, we still have options on trading some of these guys next year & perhaps 1 or 2 will lift their value.

The obvious dissapointment is not doing a trade for Campo, in a way if we lose him any pick would have done, but perhaps the deals being offered were so insulting that Pagan, like Chocko refused to hand over a free player.

I sort of hope he ends up at Collingwood if we dont keep him.

As for other players mentioned, I'm sure Houla will be retained, most likely Sporn as well.
I think the usual suspects will end up being delisted, & we will be able to give ample opportunities to the draft choices of the last 2 years... eg. Walker, Russell, Hartlett, possibly Setanta.

Most importantly we have 1,4, 20 & 36 still.

I think Lappin will stay, not sure about Campo.

Cheers,
F.W.

I think Lappin's put a rod up his back with his excessive wage demands and it appears there doesn't appear to be many clubs interested in him at all, which means he may stay at Carlton

agree- houlihan needs to be moved to wing or HFF

teague, livo, carazzo
mcgrath, saddington, thornton

this should free up houlihan to go fwd
