i think theyre going south in a hurry.
They were alost certainties to win a premiership but a few factors have kicked in to rob them of a genuine opportunity.
There is alot of trash on that list
A few retirees.
Some bad drafting.
Terrible trading .

Now some boardroom fighting ...

Interesting times ahead.

GT left them with no depth and no quality developing kids.

Still good enough to do some serious damage next year but need a dream run with injuries.

I actually think theyre gone now..
Thompson and Harvey are their leaders.
Hamill is gone
Gardiner is a waste of list space.
And G Train makes life easier for Riewoldt and Kosi and their balance.

Their losing the plot at board level and are coming into a very tricky time.

as far as liking teams go, St. Kilda sit pretty at the bottom of my list, however saying that, i think they showed they have the personnel and started to get their gameplan right in the 2nd half of next year. If by some stupid chance they actually get a fit and firing Hammil and Gardiner, especially Gardiner as he frees up Kosi to go forward, then they once again have a very potent list. Hayes & Ball might do well to get a long preseason under their belts and hopefully that could free up Del Santo a bit. Losing Attard was a bit of a blow for them as he was looking the goods for a young player but i hardly think they are neccisarily gonna fall off the face of the planet. Many people predicted Geelong could've done likewise, saying their midfield had no depth last season and that they would already need to rebuild, good one.

Disagree.

2008 Starting 18

Baker S.fisher S.Gilbert
R.Clarke Maguire Gram
Montagna Ball Goddard
Hamil Reiwoldt Harevy
Milne Koschitzke X.Clarke

Gardiner Hayes Dal Santo

Ross's plan would be well implemented. when the saints executed the plan they were pretty good.

Hayes, Hamil, Maguire, Ball, X and R Clarke all started 2007 injured. If they get it together over preseason ???

They have the team no doubt at all.

8-3 in the second half of the year.

We led every game at some stage of the last quarter.

That has to be a positive for 2008 ...

St Kilda have lost Thompson, Voss, Peckett, Powell, Gehrig, Jones and Penny from their Preliminary Final team.

That's not just a few ordinary players ... they were all top 15 at the club.

If you take Harvey out of the equation, St Kilda's oldest player is 31 (Hudghton), and their next oldest 28 (Hayes).

If the club drafts well this year, and a few of the rookies come on, then I have no doubt we can progress ...

Saints are going to miss the G-Train BIG time. To think otherwise is just plain crazy.

I think the Saints are bottom 8 for a couple of years now unless they can find a ruckman to allow Kosi to go forward. I don't think Gardiner is a realistic choice.

Gone, and their fall is going to be commensurate with our rise.

And the amount of dribble JD and his boyfriend have plastered on these boards over the years is going to make it oh so sweet. :D

I don't think we'll miss Fraser as much as people think.

Our forward line has been our biggest problem for some time. We often lose games with more forward 50 entires than the opposition. Yesterday's game was so typical of our year where we almost lost despite controlling the game for significant periods.

If we are to take the next step we need to improve our fitness and to restructure our forward setup.

How dare anyone question the greatness of the Saints. Their record, both recently and in totality, proves their greatness.

Thanks for your input too.

I'm more than happy to discuss St Kilda and where we are at . . . but trolls like yourself hardly add to the discussion

Have they started to eat each toher alive over on Saintsational yet.

Seriously some of the blokes on there on a bitter & twisted graph make JeffDunne look like Mother Teresa

I was not trolling, hadn't said anything in the thread before :)

Although, my yellow card has expired and my sig from your winging about the (W)AFL is now back, I guess that doesn't help my cause...

They look good to me.

Harvery needs to come back and they have to stay healthy.

Goddard was a huge loss for them and the injuries in defense ravaged their run. Which given the style they are trying to play is massive.

I think they looked pretty solid this year though, especially the 2nd half when they got healthier and were starting to play the style you can see Lyon wants them to play.

They should look to add a ruckman and a key defender in the preseason. Gehrig isnt a big loss, should allow Riewoldt to play closer to home but guys like Birss, Gilbert and Fiora cant be getting a consistent game if they want to improve. They should have a look at getting Seaby from West Coast or Warnock/Sandilands from Freo. I'd give some serious thought to offering a first for any of them or even Lade who I believe is out of contract.

Draftwise they need to get more speed through the midfield. Harvey is still their quickest midfielder. Hayes and Ball are great clearance guys but they lack the damaging run that the top teams have.

Typical of Jeff Dunne. Dish it out, but can't take it.

The Saints should be alright next year. They'll be in the finals mix, in the 5-8th bracket.

You'll need to be the fittest team in the league if you want to seriously challenge teams with far better midfield rotations like West Coast or Geelong.

Take it to bay 13 morons.
The irony.

Most of THS's stands points are on the money and their list is overrated.

Recruiting Brooks, Watts and Gardiner was a huge mistake and cost them more than what it took Carlton to obtain Ackland and Mclaren.

Early draft picks (or picks in the superdraft) should be off the table.

Raph Clarke and McQualter have done nothing and the selections of Ackland and McGough in the 2004 national draft reeks to high heaven.

They could have secured them in the PSD, I doubt any one else would have been after them.

Walls was on the money with his comments they needed a decent ruckman, yet was hounded by BF's clueless Three Stooges who defended Cornflakes no matter what he did.

Beveridge is an overrated recruiter and picks a great smoky every year according to the sheep in the media.

Raymond was supposed to be another Gwilt. :D :o

Very overated list that has promised so much and delivered nothing. The will miss Gehrig as they will have to find another 60-70 goal a year forward but their biggest problem is in the midfield. They dont have enough players who put their head over the ball and show a bit of hardness.Lenny hayes & Harvey do it but it stops there.Dalsanto is silky smooth, has tons of class and looks great out on his own but he like a lot of other of their players dont put their head down and win enough contested hard balls. They still relied heavily on players like Harvey at times this year to get them out of trouble too which is a real worry

Poor little Jeffy....has no problem dishing it out, but can't cop it sweet.

Has anyone noticed that the majority of posters on this thread claiming doom and gloom for the Saints are Carlton supporters:p these empty heads are way too obvious in their stupidity.
Now talking logically , our future looks bright for next season, hopefully we will have most of them on the park as opposed to this season and look forward to seeing Gardiner perform. Hayes was starting to show his real form after coming back from a knee construction, Maguire will improve, the resting of Ball hopefully will bring him back to form and will have Hamill,Goddard returning, Sam Gilbert is coming along nicely and also look forward to see how Jayden Allen goes. Confident we will play finals next year.
So you see, these poor Carlton numbnuts who follow a cheating tanking club have lost all pride and simply resort to trolling as their major source of entertainment, that's all they have left:o
