We got the rub of the green for sure (no free kick on Nas for obvious front on contact) but most of the high tackle calls were from absolutely ****ing atrocious tackling technique from Port and pretty much all of them were there.

Anyway, great first, average second, atrocious third, composed fourth for an away win against a team that does still have Butters, JHF, Aliir and Georgiadies.

Im quite content.
Nas’ eyes never left the ball, no free kick at all

feels like we drop a lot of gettable contested marks, which is highlighted because we kick to a lot of contests. admittedly a match played in a biblical downpour isn’t the best place to judge this but it’s a pattern. if we could just start nailing a few more of those, I think it would make the gameplan look a lot better.

Ralphy trying to milk the Silvagni family angle but failing to specify which Jack and ending up with Ross rambling on for a few minutes about Higgo (without ever mentioning him by name) was humorous

and then Riley(?) asking a direct follow-up question about his relationship with Wilkie, not even realising Ross had been talking about Higgo the whole time 🤦‍♂️
Was all a bit odd. Clearly they don’t even listen to each others questions.
I mean of course he’d assume he was being asked about Higgo considering his milestone! And he was really complimentary about him too.

The new hair cut appears to have brought forth a new Hugo. I propose that he continues to trim his sideburns from now on.

Hugo has been consistently building for some time. I was baffled when some didn't have him in their starting 23 at the beginning of the season. He played well yesterday, but to me it was no huge surprise break out game. It was just Hugo consistently getting better at what Hugo does.

Disagree on dropping Butler. Had equal second most pressure acts for the team, Windhager had more. Boxshall was equal second which is weird, I didn’t notice he was playing lol

Butler runs around like a maniac, I like that
They were also using him on the left back flank for kick ins a few times. Think Higgo the same. Worked well.

Happy with the win. Never knock back 4 points.

Just need to play smarter in front of the ball, too stagnant, if we want to match it with the top 6. A lot of our bombing the ball comes from no clear option - whether that is in the midfield or the forward line.

Constant transition in & out of space.

Improve on that & we’re a better side.

It's funny the only full-time forward that looked any good for either team was Georgiades. He is a reliable lead up forward who gets huge separation when ever he gets an inch of space ahead of him. It really amplifies how much we are missing a gun forward.

I doubt we have a forward in the top 30 goal kickers this year. It's starting to look like the really obvious hole in our list right now. Owens and Sharman are warriors but they are agricultural. Max King would be an absolute godsend if he can stay fit.

Interesting that Hall and Snags were down last night and we still won. They usually need a big games for us to be in matches.

He used to kick goals though, got out the back a lot with his pace, when Ratten was coach. different game style maybe.

He was up the field a lot. Seemed to play more of the Hall role as a running high half forward perhaps.

Watched the interview with Mattaes. For all the crap he’s been getting especially about being weird and aloof. I think he’s much more self aware than it looks. Really impressive speaker.

I reckon he's been doing his psych ed practice. The checking out of SM and being conscious of being 100% into consuming AFL is straight out of the club psych playbook.

Think both can be true, there was a lot of ducking but also quite poor and overzealous technique from Port. I will say, that Boxshall one was really bad, seen people get hurt doing that. Not just a bad call but that sort of duck, driving into someone’s torso head-first is really dangerous and unnecessary for the guy with ball in hand, needs to not be rewarded. Reminds me of how Casey Tutungi sadly was injured.

Man id love Georgiades.

Leads at the ball carrier and a great kick for goal.

I'm honestly thinking we should consider Mitch Lewis as a free agent

I have been staying away from here this season because of how much of a let down the start of the season has been.

But honestly, im keeping the faith. I still think we have a squad to win a final or two this year. I genuinely think it will click.

Even ignoring the 4 new recruits, we just have a team that needs time together.

How many games have Hall, Garcia and Windhager played in the centre together?

How much time have Wilkie and Tauru had to work things out?

Nas is putting together an AA season and hasnt even kicked into gear yet.

I feel like all our games have been really even, 3 we just fell short and 2 we just got across the line. I think we have the scope for that 5-10% improvement that can really elevate us.

Was at the game last night and was interested in how the 666 set up was.I thought the forward line had to have a forward in the kick out box at every bounce ,didn’t happen last night

Great to wake up to a win.

Beautiful, ugly….I’ll take it, an away win in the wet against a team we hardly every beat especially as we avoided doing a Carlton -
ironically with the help of a very impressive game from SOS and a pretty composed one from an improving Carroll.

Step 1 in retaining NAS rather than him heading off to Port in a couple of years.
Onward we go.

Why is Coops not playing like him? Around the same height, early on he was much more lead up. He can take a good contested mark but should be running at the ball carrier from the goal square more.

Your mates on the port board haven’t enjoyed being shown stills showing Nas got the ball before hitting Whitlock.

Hugo has massive Libba vibes. Rapt he got some reward last night. Works his arse off, on field and off it.

Thought our hunt and pressure was fantastic in the first quarter and a half. Returned in the last. Still searching for that four quarter effort, which was always going to be a challenge for a our young midfield group. It'll come, though.

Great effort to win over there in those conditions. I don't care who we were playing.

I reckon he could be a bit more than Libba. Libba's a warrior but I think Hugo has a bit more pace and he's a quality finisher. There is a bit of Butters about him IMO.

Different types of players.

Sharman is all leap. Georgiades is very physical.
