One thing I’m not sure has been mentioned, but Melbourne seem to have only been missing two of their best 23 (May and Lever- who was dropped to the VFL recently), while unavailable for us were:

Max
Pou
Howard
Garcia
Butler
Webster
Wilson

They’re actually in a bit of strife.

They’ve been a bottom 6 team the last two years now, and last week they lost to Carlton, while only missing Lever of note, while this week they lost to us missing as many as 7 of our best team, yet their arguable best player turns 34 in a few months (Gawn), May turns 34 in 5 months, Melksham turns 34 in a month, Viney is 31, Petracca turns 30 in 5 months, and isn’t what he was, and Oliver is going to be on a reported $1.7mil back-ended contract, yet is a shadow of his former self!

They have some very young guns (especially Langford, Lindsay and Windsor), but really only one “gun player” between the ages of 20 and almost-30 (Pickett).

To make things worse, they traded their first this year for the pick they got Lindsay with, so will finish bottom 6 and not have a first rounder, and then they’re going to lose a bunch of their very best players in the next 2-3 years, and will have to rebuild as Tassie are coming in!

They could be in for a North or West Coast-like world of hurt.

Love your post Austinn

I am of an age that I'm comfortable with my lot in life that I am a St Kilda supporter. With all that it brings. A lot more pain than joy but that is ok.

A lifetime ago when I was about 10 my Dad (Collingwood suppoorter) took me to a Saints game at Moorabbin. We were about 5 goals down with about 15 mins left in the last. He said "time to go". As we were walking back to the car we heard a roar. Then another. Then another. We get to the car and turn on the radio and the commentators were raving about the "great Trevor Barker". We didnt win but it was still a very frosty weekend I gave him as Barkes was my hero. It was also the last time I wasn't at the last siren. A vow was made.

Fast forward to late Sunday afternoon and there I was with my wife (another from overseas who'd never watched an AFL game before we met a few years ago). Nas took the mark for the 2nd last goal right in front of us. After the winning goal I turned to her and she had tears streaming down her face. Then I realised I was the same.

This game is brutal but God I love it.
Post of the year. Thats beautiful, Parkysp!

NAS said in post game interviews that he had told the forwards to make space for him.
Believe it came from Windy first. Then they passed it on to Ro.

I had Hall best on in the last, he has a hand either through clearance or direct assist in 6 of the 9 goals we kick i think.

Wood and Nas next. Those 3 were monumental.

Watching the last quarter again the dees were so so so bad.

We talk about the missed shots (if Oliver had a left foot they almost certainly win by a point) but theres way more.

McVies 50m penalty to Higgo is unforgiveable, genunely.

McDonald plays on from an intercept mark is as boneheaded as it comes.

No ability at all from them to slow the stoppage game to a crawl even with an absolutely dominant ruck (they do it for about 90 seconds before Nas first goal but Collingwood would have done it for 5 minutes and way way earlier).

Then the last free kick debacle. I can understand the confusion and some of the game theory stuff being a mess because its such a crazy and unprecedented situation but to even give away a 6-6-6 in that scenario is unforgiveable (i assume it was Pickett coming back on the ground that caused them to cook their midfield set up) and then for their backs to just leave 80m of space (again if May or Lever play no way that happens) and THEN to just let Nas (and Camma for the record) run completely unchecked or with anyone even near them.

All really really ****ing bad.
They were so rubbish, its tempting to believe they threw the game, and i generally don't believe this stuff happens in footy. Bit it is ore conceivable, especially with Goodie in charge. Don't forget Viney on the wing foe no apparent reason and Bowey facing the forwards for the final play.

Did someone say Kosi came on for Oliver at the end there? If so one could loosely assume (😬) that perhaps he should have headed to the centre bounce. 🤓

Not for nothing, but Hunter Clark's highest TOG in over a year.

Nah, I don’t buy that at all.

The final play was just chaos and momentum is a crazy thing in footy, they were just shot, someone mentioned that the free kick meant they couldn’t win it and they just sort of gave up.

Kozi definitely came on for someone but I’m pretty sure Oliver was also there wasn’t he?

I think Kozi coming on was what ****ed them one way or another, whoever he replaced seemed to get confused.

Oliver was probably the one who came off for Pickett. He had the towel on his head when the 6-6-6 free was paid and they showed the Dees bench. Looked like he was drenched in sweat and had just come off.

Actually that would make sense. Oliver came off Kozi came on and Viney for some reason thought he was on a wing for Kozi to go in the guts.

Melbourne is probably the only club that could manage to tank after trading away their first pick haha
Just unfortunate it’s Essendon benefiting from their meltdown.

With Melbourne, giving up and tanking are equally believable. Such a shocking culture at that club, how they ever got close to a premiership is a total mystery.

Went back to see the Tauru mark and goal (they didn’t show the mark on the Fox Mini!) and the swap with Caminiti was made just after the halfway mark of the 2nd quarter.

Tauru gave away that goal with the grubber kick across goal and you saw Ross on the phone immediately and a minute or so later Caminiti was seen deep in defence for the first time, and then Tauru was shown on the bench talking to Ross a couple of minutes later, and when he came back on, he went forward, and almost immediately kicked that goal.

Will be interesting to see where they line up this week.

If North have both Larkey and Comben forward we might even consider Cordy.
Cordy was diabolical in the 2's. Don't see how he could possibly get a call up.

If he does get a call up there can only be one explanation
