Just starting a thread for those attending to post some insights from the event. Hopefully they go into some detail.

When's it on? I didn't get an email. I got a Christmas at Linton street invite? I'm getting left out of everything.

Good event put on by the club. Started with a talk from James Gallagher (officially introduced as Gags). He spoke about his journey which is pretty well known by most on here.
He said that saints were keen on Bytel and when he was still on the board at pick 31 they started making moves to trade up. Hence why we did the trade to get pick 50(ish) and was offering that and our second pick to clubs with picks 33, 34, 35, 36, 37... but there were no takers. We were very happy that he was still there at 41. Every club says “we were surprised he was still there” but this seems to show we were pretty keen at the time.
He and Claire White then introduced and interviewed all of the new players:

- Dean Kent - Spoke about becoming a bit stale at Melbourne and liked the look of where the saints were headed. Said when he did his shoulder in Round 23 he already knew he was heading to saints so opted to go for surgery immediately so as to be ready as possible for the new club. Hopes to push a bit more into the midfield.

- Cam Wilkie - Discussed his accounting past. Gags noted he pulled him (and Robbie Young) from North Adelaide to stop them going back to back in the SANFL.

- Max King - Rehabbing well, expects to play senior footy in 2019. Jack bytel living with him. Wasn’t sure he would be drafted by saints but had an inkling. He is a giant also.

- Robbie Young - spike at length about his work with indigenous communities and kids. It is obviously a huge passion for him and has his feet firmly planted on the ground. Living with Hunter, Coffield and Langlands who sound like they’re barely surviving feeding and cleaning themselves (Claire said one of them mistook the dishwasher for the washing machine when they first moved in). So he has been helping bring them up to speed with being a human adult.

Nick Hind - Sounded like he thought he would end up at Essendon but obviously rapt to get picked up anywhere. Free beers at the Klunes Pub for saints supporters possibly. Says his best position is half back, but can go to the wing also.

Matt Parker - Told his story of being single and playing amateurs 2 years ago, now he has partner kid and drafted to AFL. Quiet bloke but looks determined.

Dan Hannebery- speaks really well, liked the look of saints and needed to rejuvenate his footy. Has lots of friends at Swans, but said there was lots of change and more players were leaving next year (would’ve liked a follow up query as to what he meant here) so made the call to come to Melbourne. Says he is impressed by the leaders here and they push the little important things in a similar what to the Swans.

All wrapped up after that and the next group of people were ready to come in.

RSEA Park looks great and everybody mentioned how awesome it is. (DH says it smashes the Swans facilities.) good work but the club to put this on, these sorts of things help after a rough few years.

On today, 2 sessions. It was part of a membership reward. There were 3 options, this event, player training/meet greet and something else I forget.

I just ticked over to 10years as member so it may have been for 10+ members only? There were approx 100 people there in my session I’d say.

Oh, I chose a level 2 match. Now I look like tool.

Very good summary.
Hanners also said he was very impressed by the training of Ross, Sincs and Newnes.
His body is feeling great, had no preseason last year just started playing in March.
Oh, and he doesn’t have a girlfriend. :p
The others all spoke well, with Parker obviously unaccustomed to being in the spotlight..but he’ll be fine.

Great review there St_Laz…..I was at the 2nd session.....which started at 6.00 pm.

The traffic on Nepean Hwy heading South was unbelievable....4 lanes bumper to bumper for miles....thought I'd miss the start...…..it was bedlam once there...cars and people everywhere.

I thought it was a terrific function...….pretty much a full house for this session......and gee....the wow factor of RSEA Park hits you in the face everytime you walk into the reception area.

James Gallagher is a pretty good talker/interviewer....and Claire White....what a great MC she is...….I wonder if Beva is looking over his shoulder.

As you said St_Laz….DH's comments re players leaving Sydney certainly raised my eyebrows.

Hanners certainly impressed me....a great talker...is very articulate and just reeks of leadership qualities.

I was sitting there thinking how fortunate we are to have him and a guy like Billy Slater at the club.

It was terrific that each new recruit had 6-7 minutes time to answer questions from James with Claire then rapping each "interview" up.

After the event was wrapped up,2 people I knew and myself had a great chat to Cam Wilke....a very grounded lad who is just gobsmacked at everything that has happened…....and happened so quickly

He is blown away at the facilities and you could see his excitement at being at the club.

We also welcomed Matt Parker(currently at short odds to be the BF sponsored player for 2019) to the club and also Robbie Young....love his passion for indigenous programs.

Kudos to the club for putting on such an event.....it was tremendous.

Another one who went to the 6pm session. It was fantastic from the club and something I hope they do again. Just a few things that stuck with me from it
- Hanner is so impressive. He looks in ripping shapes and has really brought into the club. Again mentioned he was impressed with the medical staff. Liked how he got Saturdays off. What impressed me was that he clearly demands respect and hold people to high standards, but didnt take himself too seriously since he was the butt of a few jokes throughout the session and clearly enjoyed that side of it. I am starting to get on the "make him captain" bandwagon

- Max King is enormous and just loves that we chose him.

- Quite a few of the new guys mentioned that they instantly felt like the club was a family and they welcomed straight away. It's just a small thing, but it is great the club has that supportive, united fell about it.

- The club tried trading down to grab Bytel and were beyond thrilled he was still there at our pick. Also mentioned Max pumped him up the night before to the recruiters hoping we would grab him.

- Gags speaks very well and Claire White is great at what she does.

- While the other players were there in their polo's and dress pants, Parker was in ripped jeans. Something else bloody fantastic about this bloke. Just an instant cult figure.

Lucky enough to go along tonight as well.

Hanners seemed very bullish about a much higher finish on the ladder. Said he watched us vs Dees & Tiges (First time) and saw the potential.

You could see how hungry and grateful the mature age draftees were. All spoke well. Robbie Young especially.

Bytel will end up a media darling if he can deliver on his potential.

Gallagher seemed like a genuinely good bloke as well.

Great innovation by the club and hopefully it’s an option again next offseason.

Brilliant stuff blokes thanks for the reports. But were you talking about the St Kilda FC - whats going on the club is on fire?

What a great initiative to reward the loyal membership holders. Plus the things the club have been doing with their Linton St videos etc have been sensational. What a difference to previous years and previous administrations. The club should reek the rewards of this sort effort, both on and off the field.

Great stuff Saints its much appreciated!

The thing about it was that it was great member engagement in such a simple way, not overly costly or difficult to arrange with some tea, coffee and a few snacks beforehand, but it was such a good, positive vibe and people really enjoyed it I think.

RSEA park is amazing and I would encourage people who haven’t seen it “in the flesh” to get down there.

Spewing i didn't see the email about this. They come to my work email so i probably just deleted it :(

Does anyone know, would the club allow a tour if i turned up at some stage? (Obviously don't want to get in the way of the boys) but i would love to see it one dy

Settle down there you old cougar you! :p

Hey, just reporting what I heard and it wasn’t me who asked the question :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:
He’s looking good though...what’s wrong with all those young ladies (is that politically incorrect) out there?

Thanks mate, great insight. Sounds like they were being more honest and open than in standard interviews. Very interested in that Hanners quote as well.
